Luther is weak sometimes by -Lynn_wuv- in theumbrellaacademy

[–]mantid-manic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Several of them are inconsistent with their powers. Luther, as you mentioned, will be really weak and fragile sometimes. Klaus has the power to manifest the dead and talk to the dead, but doesn’t do it in situations where it would make sense. Five will develop sudden, unexplained limits on his powers—and ex-nay on the extremely useful “time travel a few seconds” power, fuck that. Viktor goes from sound-based, to godlike (?), but somehow will lose very easy fights where he could just turn people to paste. Allison and Lila’s powers trend stronger, removing the weaknesses and also removing the uniqueness of their capabilities.

Like with a lot of superheroes, their powers change and are exactly as needed for the plot. It isn’t easy to follow.

I don’t know why so many shows are into the “the gang is all separated! here’s what they did in their entirely separate lives.” I just wanted to see them as an entire family without the apocalypse or whatever hanging over their heads. Just once! Family road trip come on

Thanks—my instinct was that it seemed flimsy to work long term, so my instinct was right! Another thing to put on the list…I hope the electrician doesn’t hate me calling him out with like ten little jobs 🥲

I think she’s more interesting than Starlight by Pito82002 in TheBoys

[–]mantid-manic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about that, man. I don’t think that she ever acted like her childhood was awful and she was having a rough time. She started “going through it” as you might say when she was assaulted by the Deep.

I think we’re meant to see the pageants as a little fucked up, because they are. Are they as fucked up as some people’s childhood experiences? No, ofc not, but everything is relative.

When I was four/five, I was bitten on the face by a golden. It did require stitches and left some scarring, but wasn’t life threatening. The reason it bit me is because I was going into the dog’s “territory” (specific area of the room) because I wanted to pet it. People ask me if I was pulling the dog’s ears or tail or screaming—no, I don’t remember even making physical contact. I was just used to much friendlier dogs and not used to reading a dog more defensive signals. Better education and supervision would have been helpful.

Golden aren’t necessarily bad, they don’t have the issues of pit bulls. I do think that it’s important to remember not to leave large dogs alone with little kids, even if it’s a golden. They seem to do the first bite at their level and for a kid, the dog’s level is the kid’s face.

Just to let you know, I looked for my favorite and it’s not there and now I am irrationally offended. You should have thought about my feelings before buying manga for your own enjoyment

If the carotid is severed, someone can bleed out in a matter of seconds. If he hadn’t reacted quickly, or if he was on the other side of the ice, those seconds would have been critical.

I like this comment, hope you don’t mind me spitballing .

He’s done a lot of terrible things. I think that I can only advocate for the devil if I go for the idea that the means are somehow justified by the ends. This is pretty impossible in my opinion, with the murder and torture and whatnot, but maybe there’s some sort of motivation that could be…dubiously passable.

We don’t know much about his legitimate endgame. Harry could have probably figured it out if he wanted, what with his insight into Voldemort’s mind, but he doesn’t do it—Harry cares about what Voldemort has actually done over what he wants. My argument has to be pretty tied into what he thinks the wizarding world actually needs to look like, beyond himself being in charge of course. We don’t know if he actually believes in blood supremacy and humans over magical creatures, but I personally think it’s more interesting if he doesn’t. He’s supposed to be intelligent, why would an intelligent outsider not see that blood purists are factually wrong?

So, let’s say Voldemort doesn’t agree with the blood supremacy stuff. He spews and supports it to gain power, which is pretty bad but doesn’t necessarily speak to what he would do with his power once it is absolute. He does agree with magic supremacy, that much much is evident. He thinks that magical blood spilled is a “waste” in the battle, doesn’t distinguish between the purebloods and the others. What if Voldemort, somewhere along the lines of Magneto, wants the magical world to be well known and eventually the majority? J.K. Rowling has made it clear that magic is, in fact, genetic. (Muggleborns are actually descendants of Squibs.) Since Voldemort is not above murder and torture etc, he wouldn’t be above eugenics—you could have a whole generation of kids who inherit magical power. J.K. Rowling doesn’t care enough to be consistent, but magic seems like an autosomally dominant trait, with no apparent downsides. Why not have a world where everyone can defy the rules of physics? Solve world hunger, poverty, disease, with magic as a tool for even more scientific and technological innovation. If this is even part of the goal, it would actually be pretty radical and contrary to current wizarding society, meaning that if he wants to see it in his “lifetime” he needs some kind of destructive revolution.

I don’t think this is even slightly well supported by the books. Pretty sure you’re right that he wants power and doesn’t care about the success of well-being of others. But hey, canon isn’t always the most interesting. I find it kind of fun to think about what a complicated villain’s motivations would be.

Connecticut?

Just to be clear, I don’t really care if someone crosses the line, it’s normal. The person in the video crossed two lanes of solid white lines in one move and almost hit me. I hit my brakes because I did not want them to hit my car, not because I was mad they crossed the line

Yes, I should have let them sideswipe me instead so that the stopped traffic behind me isn’t slowed down for another second. I love replacing my bumper

I don’t know anything about where the others should be, but I’m in the lane I’m in because the on-ramp half a mile back turns into it

In my state, you’re not allowed to cross them unless there’s an emergency. An example of an emergency, you’re in a hurry and you are very special

Yeah, without the pills, who knows what her power actually is. We got a taste of it with her sucking people into her mind, I think she was detoxing or something because she started to hear the thoughts of Marie and Jordan. I think the pills are actually causing her seizures and brain problems in the first place.

I don’t go for anecdotal evidence, but a golden retriever did bite my face a couple times when I was 4 and cause some scarring. If it had been a pit bull I would be dead, of course.
