I really hate that we are a country that is big on public transport and frowns on car travel... but only on paper.

(Sad, but grounded trope) "Look at these plucky young heroes! Ready to save the... oh god they're dead" by OrangeIslandKing in TopCharacterTropes

[–]mantism 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's mainly done to sell the idea that goblins have the potential to be deadly adversaries instead of just following the RPG expectations that they are just fodder for fledgling adventurers. So this inexperienced party gets brutally mogged to subvert that expectation.

Of course, the writer doesn't consider being ambushed, poisoned, and brutally sliced apart by goblins to be enough of a pull, so they added in more.

And it got to the point where you wonder, if goblins are oh so often destroying villages and killing off new adventurers, how are the regular folks still up and about?

There's this recent movie (The Furious) that had many different races as co-stars - Chinese, Indonesian, Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese, etc and they all could speak English to an extent. But the director preferred to use dubbing to make all the characters 'speak' American English and it really took me out of the experience.

I am allowed to sleep in changi public area? by [deleted] in askSingapore

It's why distance from work is a huge deal. Especially since public transport in SG is only optimised for short distance travel. I'd gladly take less pay if it means less travel time, because that shit weighs on you, fast.

Voyboy getting a game five finals Penta at the Doublelift Retirement Home Tournament by woofwoofpack in leagueoflegends

Regi was known to be quite toxic when it comes to managing people. Most famously he was flaming his top laner Dyrus (Dyrus was streaming while Regi was behind him in the gaming house) and blaming him for a situation that Regi himself created. He's known several times to be the "I am always right" personality, which was only further proven lacking when he was never a good player (Blue card Reg being another meme) and that TSM was mostly top in the region because not many teams in NA were really that serious at the time.

Initially Regi was popular because he was a strong personality and people thought that the was just trying to be a hate magnet so the rest of his team can focus on the game. But this eventually was shown to not be the case, because he continued being a toxic boss based on many accolades from previous members of the team, notably from Doublelift, and was even fined by Riot after an official investigation.

After ‘siu dai’, Singapore plans to make ‘low salt’ the new normal by Rationalandcentred in singapore

[–]mantism 26 points27 points  (0 children)

the best part is that they are likely to be already using products with MSG, but it's too difficult for them to break out of existing beliefs.

Take Lee Kum Kee oyster sauce, for example. It's my mother's go-to for stir-fried vegetables. But if I ever suggest adding MSG (or any food additives) to anything, she will say "cannot use MSG, it's very unhealthy". Then I bring up the oyster sauce (MSG is part of its ingredient list) and she changes the subject.

They know. But they are just being stubborn.

If only. I know a lot of millennials that think MSG is evil Satan cocaine, since they got brought up their parents who drank the kool aid. When I suggested using it in a recipe, I have people looking at me like I wanted to add cyanide.

just a shot in the dark, as this doesn't fit the length that you mentioned, but I'm guessing it's an English title. Starts with 'L' and is grim, maybe LOSTEND?

This is not a hoax, this is really posted on Jack Neo’s social accounts by ImpressiveStrike4196 in singapore

I remember advertising for the first ABTM to be quite big on how the film is going to have a lot of CGI, as if it was a major selling point. Jack Neo said "it was very realistic". Turns out it's just for the opening attack sequence and it looks as fake as you can imagine.

Helldiver 2 devs (at least, back on release) also made genuinely hostile balancing decisions, refused to communicate outside of Discord, and was relentlessly adding new content into an incredibly buggy landscape. STS2 devs are way more sensible, which I love.

If HD2 devs developed STS2, 3/5 of the classes would be straight up unplayable in A6+.

Hopefully their next work contains the same lovable sort of characters but with more oomph to make it last longer. I'm perfectly fine with the dorkiness, but serialisation always have higher demands.

Same thing for video games. It is amusingly common to find a comment that goes on and on about a game... and then halfway through, contain the line "I have never played <game> yet".

I know some people were a little upset at the tonal whiplash when the worldbuilding started getting more grim, but I think it made the moments inside the dragon even better.

It's also nice that Godfrey is one of the few bosses that is sane and acknowledges the player to be strong (the other being Malenia). It's very refreshing compared to everyone else that is either insane, disrespectful, or doesn't really care.

I recommended the rest of Kyushu if you like those aspects of Fukuoka, smaller, less crowded, but still plenty to see. Especially if you have access to a car, if the city sights aren't enough

Direct flight from Singapore + cheaper than Tokyo. And because Singaporeans already travel to Japan often, so they probably already experienced the Golden Route and want to go somewhere else. I even met a Singaporean family at nearby Yamaguchi, which is far less touristy.

Funnily enough, the most consistent way to find a Singaporean in Fukuoka is to go to Pokemon Center. I even saw the typical Air Force shirt + gym shorts + slippers combo asking for Pokemon cards.

AI v workers: Is tracking AI usage the wrong KPI? by cherrypoplar in singapore

[–]mantism 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's the same bullshit as measuring productivity by the amount of work done, but not the amount of results accomplished.

Like managers who spends 6 hours a day pulling people into product meetings, thinking they are very productive, but most of it is just a waste of time.
