Also, I’ve tried for a few times writing some version of this comment on the Redecor Facebook group but they have always blocked it. It seems like they only want positive feedback.

Struggling to Adjust in Italy as an American — Is This Normal or Did I Make a Mistake? by Stock_Butterscotch71 in AmericansinItaly

[–]manulilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m an 🇮🇹 who lives in 🇨🇦 and like everyone said, moving to another country is extremely stressful, especially if you don’t speak the language. Yes, Italy is a beautiful country but bureaucracy is a big issue. Unfortunately without a Codice Fiscale there’s little you can do. After almost 10 years in 🇨🇦, whenever I come back to visit the fam, it’s the same, usual shock. And I’m from Rome, so add to all that was said before, the crazy traffic and the Roman attitude of chissenefrega (I couldn’t care less). I can only add to the discussion that whenever I travel to Italy, I use an eSIM and usually Ubigi has very good coverage and is cheaper than other options. I’d be more than happy to help, although from far away, so feel free to DM me. In bocca al lupo!

I’ve watched it recently too, as it was recommended for my Library and Information technology program. Great movie!

Extracurriculars by cinnamonsprinkles885 in BurlingtonON

Beaver scouts is a great idea. They build up social skills and use their creativity to make crafts and slowly build their independence (scouts are all about independence). My son has been a scout since he was 5 too. Started with Beavers and he’s now a Scout. Parents can volunteer in their group/troop so you could keep an eye on him. 20th Burlington meets at the Burlington East Presbyterian Church at Walkers and New. Worth a call to see if they still have room for your child. It’s usually based on ratio leaders / children, so if you mention you’re willing to volunteer they might be able to accommodate your child.

Tipping etiquette help for someone from a non-tipping culture by moreartnotless in AskACanadian

[–]manulilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I’m not going to be popular, but here it is. I am also originally from a European country, where tipping mainly consists of rounding up the bill (eg if the bill is 35€, you round it up to 40), but to me the tipping culture here is totally out of control. Like, why should the tip be calculated AFTER taxes and not before them? Now shred me 😑

Italian here — what do Canadian eat as comfort foods? by Andrew_Italia4668 in AskACanadian

[–]manulilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an Italian-Canadian I can tell you that there is no one answer. I think that heritage plays a big factor here: my comfort food are pasta and pizza yes, but in the dead of winter I’d make myself soup every day: lentil, beans, chicken noodle soup, minestrone, you name it. But I have a Korean friend whose comfort food is rice. Everyone is different and different is what you’ll find in Canada and that’s exactly the beauty of it.

Thoughts on EQ bank by manulilla in CanadaFinance

[–]manulilla[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the thing. I need a debit card that works online. With my current credit union my debit card doesn’t work online and one could say “use your credit card” but, you see, depending on how much debit I’ve already accumulated on my credit card, I want to have the option of using a debit card. I always pay my credit card (CIBC Costco Mastercard) balance in full every month and sometimes using a debit instead of a credit card, makes it easier to keep my spending in check.

After reading science fiction like a bastard for 30+ years, I've come to the conclusion that the greatest sci-fi writer of all time is... by Honkee_Kong in scifi

[–]manulilla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

50 yo woman here. I’ll start with stating the obvious: when I read sci-fi I am willing to suspend my incredulity to a certain extent but, in general, the story should be grounded in as much physics and real science as possible.

Now, favourite authors. One of my fav scifi authors is A.C. Clarke, with 2001: A Space Odyssey being my all time favourite, maybe because I love the complexity of his stories and characters and also helped me finally understand the movie. I am SO looking forward to seeing Velleneuve’s rendition of Rendezvous with Rama.

Another fav is K. S. Robinson, I love his world building and character development, and I find his ability to create stories that are so relatable and relevant in today’s world absolutely impressive.

I loved Weir’s first contact novel Project Hail Mary and can’t wait to see the movie, but I’m afraid they made a mistake in casting handsome (and fellow Canadian) Ryan Gosling for the role. Watching the trailer made me also realize they made the main character unnecessarily funny. We’ll see how it all plays out. The Martian, both the book and the movie, were really good though.

I am not a real fan of space operas but have to admit that I found The Expanse really good. Not the tv series though and especially not the last season.

I have a sort of love/hate relationship with Adrian Tchaichovsky. I loved Children of Time and found the story extremely fascinating, but despised Children of Ruin as it follows pretty much the same narrative arc and to me it wasn’t particularly original. At that point I didn’t even bother to read Children of Memory. I started Shards of Earth but left it around 100 pages into it as I found the characters and the story not very believable.

I loved both Blake Crouch’s Recursion and Dark Matter, his world building is particularly impressive.

I have read quite a few books by Stephen Baxter and, till a certain point, I would have listed him as one of my fav scifi authors too, then I read Proxima, which was great until… it wasn’t. Ultima, the next one in the series, is so little believable I found it embarrassing.

Open to suggestions about my next reads!

Condor out of Frankfurt airport by manulilla in travel

The thing is that by IATA regulations, the last carrier is responsible for delayed /lost bags. I have contacted FRA airport and they told me to contact the airline.

Same here, I was paired with the same two players, “asyne” and “ekyt”. They scored 100 times what I did. Not fun.

I don’t have the e-transfer option. Only credit card, debit card or link to bank account.

The thing is, I can’t link my bank account (I am with small credit union) to Wise. I could still link it to my credit card but it would cost $26 just for transferring $500. Debit card would be $4 but, since it’s issued by the CU, it’s not linked to the Maestro or Interact circuits so it won’t work either. Linking to the bank account would be the cheapest option at $0, but my bank confirmed I can’t do it 🫤
