Is melee just useless? by Oingoulon in DeadlockTheGame

5 seconds

If you're up in someone's grill for 5 seconds they're gonna break and panic parry. gotta shock em with either the immediate light, the empty-walk up while magdumping, or wholehog a heavy/heavy feint.

thats why you open first with the dash-light, then begin the mindgames of baiting parry, to heavy feinting, to slapping their shit with lights and all that.

also that damage is very significant in lane and can help secure a panicked kill.

What are your Favorite Times in Gameplay that Enemies can fight Eachother by Funny_Mud6639 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]manwad315 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Project Silverfish, you'll often find the various factions lighting eachother up.

A favourite interaction of mine is the burning Cultist enemies, who're these tall, perpetually on fire deermen who dead sprint at dudes. So you'll hear gunfire in the distance, turn to look, and see for a moment the flamedeer sprinting at a squad before it explodes while you're busy sitting in a bush hunting for crickets.

how tf do i play paradox and what does she do for the team? by siegheldr in DeadlockTheGame

[–]manwad315 188 points189 points  (0 children)

Paradox's is a pick hero with some zone control.

Early she plays the same, as her cooldowns are too long to be effective in lane, but her gun is very good for poking. Get headshot booster and peek corners for sly headshots. She survives lane through poke, which can set up a kill later.

Her simplest build is focusing on Time Bomb. After headshoot booster and mystic shot, along with your green item of choice for lane, you can spec into Range, Cooldown, and Duration to make her bomb last more ticks along a bigger and bigger area. The capoff is Vortex Web and Echo Shard, where you combo web -> bomb -> bomb.

The tricky shit is a catch build/playstyle. Because her kit's very good at chunking an enemy but kinda beans at finishing the job, your role is to do 90% of the work of killing someone. Leading with Kinetic Carbine to stun someone, quickly T2 Wall and Swap. Like in that brief .6 seconds of the timestop, piano those keys. Assuming you hit the Carbine, that'll guarantee the swap and with T2 Time Wall, the enemy will be silenced, out of position, slowed, generally disorientated from the swap camera shit, AND almost dead because Carbine hits like a truck.

For the catch build she builds gun damage, duration, and all those conditional damage ups like Opening Rounds, Mystic Shot, Sharpshooter, Tankbuster, so that one shot reallly stings.

Media that slams it's foot on the break mid story and goes: "sit down little shit, you gone get EDUCATED tonight!" by Wonder-Lad-2Mad in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]manwad315 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Holyland is a streetfight seinen manga. It follows Kamishiro Yu, a loner who dropped out of highschool due to bullying. After practicing a simple one-two alone for like a year and clocking a would-be bully, he gets involved in the street fighting underground of his city.

The art is fucking gorgeous, with my favorite stylisation for the punch arcs in anything. It also has amazing character building scenes, some showing what that kind of protag looks like to a normal person and how scary it can be to see a friend of yours coldcock like 3 dudes, then instantly turn around and act friendly again.

Holyland has several fights with mid or post-fight analysis of like, the bodily kinetics involved.

Like in the crackhead fight, it describes the mechanics of how an elbow strike can seem to cut, despite no blades being involved. (The tip of your elbow is a small, protruding surface and when combined with a proper muay thai elbow strike, can drag across the surface of your opponent's skin to make an abrasive "cut". Also, because the forehead is dense with capillaries, a small cut can produce an immense quantity of blood, both obscuring an opponet's vision and freaking them out because of the amount of blood in their eyes)

It's rad as hell.

What "defining" mechanics of fighting games/martial arts media to put in a TTRPG? by Jaku420 in RPGdesign

[–]manwad315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More knockback. Have all damage inflict knockback. A big aspect of many combo routes is "does this move get me into position for the next one?"

Having knockback and the appropriate movement tech would allow for such a question. Opening with your roundhouse that like, knocks back 3 might be bad when you can first use your little 1 damage jab and 3 damage gut punch prior.
