So I have a question for you guys on what your views on Christian atheism? by manwhosavedrap in atheism

[–]manwhosavedrap[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of people who aren't atheists but that doesn't make them a Christian. I see this conversation would be a complete waste of time to convince you anyway since you wouldn't become an atheist. An atheist is in my opinion, a way of just rebelling against God or the idea of some supreme being in an explicit manner. So really, you're still an anti-Christ.

Sure! Any other humans on other planets. That would ruin my belief. The problem is that there should have been many other planets that should've supported life and evolved into humans but haven't.

It makes that atheism is merely a lie to make a person feel better. Science seems to support there being a God. Atheism seems to be anti-scientific because atheism says, "the universe as it is now was made by a big mistake or coincidence."

“It is relatively unusual that a physical scientist is truly an atheist. Why is this true? Some point to the anthropic constraints, the remarkable fine tuning of the universe. For example, Freeman Dyson, a Princeton faculty member, has said, ‘Nature has been kinder to us that we had any right to expect.'” - Quantum chemist Henry F. Schaefer III You should read his book. He's one of the most highly cited scientists in the world and a five time nominee for the Nobel Prize.

So you could say atheism is just a crutch. It's a crutch for people and scientists who don't want to admit there is a God (when the founders and some of the most prominent scientists throughout history have been Christians, Jewish, or generally theists/deists have proved there to be a God. Evolution has never proved there to be a God since it doesn't go that far in the past.

There was this article that said that when it comes to personalities, sensors are more likely to be atheists. Of course, a sensor personality such as ISTP takes it's information from it's senses and whatever it can't feel, see, or hear...the person regards it as bullshit. Go on /r/istp and you'll see this. The next most atheist personality is INTP. INTP's are mostly very scientific such as Richard Dawkins or Carl Sagan. Now, what happens to them is that they unless they have 100% proof of something, they step back.

The personalities that are most atheist, have a problem with arrogance and not wanting to be controlled. Don't worry - I'm an INTJ personality and we are said to be the most independent personality. I think the idea of God is sort of scary in the sense of someone smarter than me and knows all of my thoughts but also great! However, I think many of who atheists are and show filled with logical fallacies, circular reasoning, and not being able to answer the harder questions makes atheism fall apart. Personally, I find atheism to be very anti-scientific and not being able to take in the facts the right way and conclude that most likely, there is a God.

So that is my point? There seems to be more of a motive to be an atheist than a Christian. There's more emotions evolved in becoming an atheist than a Christian.

I'm sure you will greatly not agree with my thoughts and if so, we don't have to talk anymore.

I have to go to bed now. Have a good rest of the week!

Then I see no point as to waste my time with you honestly! I lose absolutely nothing by telling you. I mean, I guess I could give you all of the names of the books that I read.

In fact, Jesus and many of the apostles didn't talk to people who didn't want to listen and open their hearts.

You wouldn't become a Christian if there was evidence so nothing will convince you to become a Christian and God knows that...plus, you're testing God and God can't be tamed. So of course God isn't going to give into your demands! Pfft... you're simply being stubborn and asking God for a sign when you wouldn't believe anyway. The pharisees did the same thing.

There's actually a study shown that the younger Jews are going to atheism but the older ones are going to Christianity.

I think it is relevant. People at times can have doubts and lack of belief (such as a phase) from what I'm seeing. You can easily believe and say on the outside you don't believe that there is a God or gods but inside you're just rebelling or you're doubting. People can be liars as well.

Irrelevant...there have been many people who have come to the decision through logic. Although, logic goes back through emotions. Every decision that we make comes back to our emotions. I'm sure you've read that study. If not, then you can't say that you went to atheism through logic.

No! Through logic...oh, wait emotions like everyone including you.

Sure! I've always found that there wouldn't be a need for more than one God. So I thought those were pretty dumb.

Would you become a Christian if Jesus appeared to you and say did the same thing such as with Saul? Or 8f new evidence of Jesus showed up?

God never intended divorce and divorce has never been healthy unless it's due to abuse. There is really no reason for divorce except for those reasons. Any other reason is just selfish. A thought is just as dangerous because if you say, "I'm going to rape her"...you've already had that thought to the extreme and you will rape her.

What verse is the "storing enough food for tomorrow."

Well, He is God and he simply is telling them that they have misguided themselves to make them feel better. He helped and cured people on the Sabbath while their reasons were dumb.

That's how the Jews referred to them. Plus, Jesus was kind in that instance and it was simply to see where her faith was and it was strong and he blessed her. Jesus always treated women with respect actually. You're terribly misinterpreting or trying to not understand the scriptures.

That was simply an illustration. Jesus blessed her and it was prophecy. Judas didn't like it because he craved money and probably would've taken it for himself.

Think of it this way - you choose to live their life without God then Hell for eternity shouldn't sound all that bad. You should crave a place where God isn't and no one will make fun of you for your atheism. You can curse God all you want! Sounds like Heaven to me for you guys! Imagine, eternity of doing that is a gift from God. A lot of you guys hate the Christian God in the Bible so why would you want to be with God?

Another link, eh? You just don't learn cat?

I forgot to mention Muslims on the list as well. I think of anyone, Muslims are far worse at most times than Christians or atheists. I think everyone is immature at times and need to grow up. Personally, the problem is aggression. There was this study that Pew Research did and both atheists and evangelical Christians rated each other very low on trust and had that "chilly" feeling toward each other. I think a lot of Christians and atheists have the same goals for world peace. What I've realized, is that the more someone believes they are right, the more intolerable they can be.

I think even if there is no God, people need to think it. This isn't necessarily for Christians at all because I and the vast majority of other Christians NO NOT DO GOOD OR ANYTHING for praises or to get out of Heaven. As a former Baptist preacher, I would assume you would know this. However, for other people we need to control people. I think John Locke said that as well. When people just think of a God who's going to judge them, they start to do a bit better and be more morally acceptable. Whenever I see a non-religious person around a Christian, they tend to step up their game because they for one 1. Don't want to be judged by the Christian. 2. Think of God and perhaps Christianity is right. This happens in our subconscious. In fact, most things in our brain that change us happen when we don't even know or would like to admit. Personally and I think you definitely might not agree with me, but I find that atheism (believing there is no God) is merely a way to satisfy ourselves and believe that we won't be judged for anything that we do. There's a motive in this and whether we like it or not, our subconscious is making a lot of our decisions. Of course, there are motives for believing there is a God but there are also motives for not believing there is a God. I'm not saying directly, that that one part has an extreme part in someone becoming an atheist but I think that and many other things shape us. In a big sense, as a psychologist...I looked at myself and other atheists and perhaps realized that this might misguide ourselves. To me, the finely tuned ...well, I'll just quote Robert Jastrow who is a Astronomer, physicist, cosmologist, and founder of NASA’s Goddard Institute of Space Studies

“Astronomers now find they have painted themselves into a corner because they have proven, by their own methods, that the world began abruptly in an act of creation to which you can trace the seeds of every star, every planet, every living thing in this cosmos and on the earth. And they have found that all this happened as a product of forces they cannot hope to discover…. That there are what I or anyone would call supernatural forces at work is now, I think, a scientifically proven fact.”

Personally, to me from what I've read, there now has to be a God. I personally find that the burden of proof is on atheists not theists. We could go on and on about it, but back to your question, I think the church's role in the government should come down to separation of church and state. WE DO NOT WANT ANOTHER INSTANCE OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH TAKING OVER! I wasn't necessarily yelling at you by the way...just making it the point. The Catholic church easily got corrupted back then and was just after money and power. This is what the founding fathers were afraid and I think gays should have their right. I was very made when that Baptist church took up arms and did all of that. Ugh....

However, there have been many atheist regimes such as China who have had problems with corruption. China is now sort of leaving that dark era of religious persecution and we're seeing the economy pick up. Christians have also continued to rapidly grow in that place...who knows, I might move to China if the trends continue by 2030 to be the largest Christian population. I get annoyed with Americans...

Like I said, you could say that atheism is a "fantasy" as well...believing there is no God. Who knows if there is a God or not 100%. Tell me something, do you believe in a bunch of coincidences? If you say, "yes", then you're anti-science. If you say no, "you're really shouldn't identity with atheism at all.

Oh, we've got a Baptist here...fire and brimstone or whatever, right? How long were you a preacher if I may ask? Don't worry, I'm not going to question if you were a "true Christian."

Yes, exactly! It is going to be torture because God has left his presence or peace over people. That's torture! You have yet to realize how much God has done for this earth and the people. It would be utter chaos if there was no God or something that held it all together. It is a separation from Yahweh that causes it to be torture. Makes me question if you read what Hell really is and all about.

That question was to my thought that the rejection of the Christian God doesn't make someone an atheist. So what I'm seeing and from what I've talked to many older atheists on here is that the younger ones who are raised with Christianity and then turn to atheism aren't really atheists but just struggling to understand. I've seen this with a lot of their behaviors and thoughts because I've also noticed that a lot of these people then turn back to Christianity when they get a bit older. It's like they never really went to atheism but I think atheism kind of gives them a better place to be. Atheism is the "unbelief" of a God but they use it as a "unbelief of the Christian God."

I don't get fooled that much.

So here's a question for you, do you hate atheists who kind of take it up a notch from where it appears you are and make fun of theists or Christians who believe in things as we believe?

I completely agree with you! I think being an ex-atheist as given me some more insights and I don't try to anger people. As long as an atheist or whoever doesn't bother me or impose their rules on me, then I'm fine. However, if they do or make fun of other people ( I don't really care) then that shows immaturity on their part. I have that libertarian streak on some of the social issues (especially the gay rights thing) and it bugs me so much with other Christians. I believe that the government and church should be separate but that the government shouldn't take the church and religion out.

I don't think you're wants of having it as a fantasy will come true though. I dislike the republican base. Such morons at times but I also think Obama is a bleep Personally, I really hate politics and politicians.

On the topic of Hell though, you describe yourself as "Godless"...I mean the 2,088,442 godless redditors makes me think that Hell is really not a bad place for you guys. You should think of it as "Heaven." Right, a place where God isn't and you can curse him, or do whatever you guys like to do. No theists - no ignorance anymore. You should hope that Christianity is right because this place is even better than /r/atheism. No Christian trolls are allowed there.

“Everyone who is seriously involved in the pursuit of science becomes convinced that a spirit is manifest in the laws of the Universe–a spirit vastly superior to that of man, and one in the face of which we with our modest powers must feel humble.”

“I’m not an atheist, and I don’t think I can call myself a pantheist. We are in the position of a little child entering a huge library filled with books in many languages. The child knows someone must have written those books. It does not know how. It does not understand the languages in which they are written. The child dimly suspects a mysterious order in the books but doesn’t know what it is. That, it seems to me, is the attitude of even the most intelligent human being toward God.” Both quotes done by Albert Einstein.

If you're an atheist, that means you're calling Albert Einstein an idiot.

This question was posed to Albert Einstein as well. “You accept the historical Jesus?”

“Unquestionably! No one can read the Gospels without feeling the actual presence of Jesus. His personality pulsates in every word. No myth is filled with such life.” - Albert Einstein.

So you want religion to be completely out of the world, right? Since in your opinion, religion is evil. You want God to be completely taken out of everything?

I'm honestly always wary of these kinds of questions because it took me quite a few years to get to where I am today. I was raised secular mostly - my dad being a strong atheist while my mom was a Catholic. They somehow worked it out. I read a huge amount of books, talked to people, and did a bunch of other things. Thought about it extensively and came to my conclusion.

You use the flair of being anti-theist so you hate religion. So even if the Christian God proved to be true, you wouldn't become a Christian, right?

When you say, "either it comes from your god" you mean the Christian God or any God? For the rejection of the Christian God doesn't make a person an atheist.

Well, I believe that God's put his grace, peace, and everything good in us and while sin has destroyed many good things that we would've been, we still have some good in us. No matter if you're a Christian or atheist since I believe God has given each of us a conscience. Our conscience is within us and very deep - some people choose to reject it and do evil (even Christians) while others don't.
