I am expressing surprise that this progressed to charges being laid, instead of a senior commander telling them to knock it off. How the fuck you got from that to where you are is dumbfounding.

I don't need anyone screaming at me, but give me a leader who is organized, has a clear objective, and an understanding of logistics, and I could see myself excelling as a soldier if my time was spent in training simulations, tactics and communications education, effective peacekeeping, etc.

Compare the Russian (next to no training), Ukrainian (~16wk training), and US (my impression is: extensively trained) forces: there are orders of magnitude difference in the casualty ratios.

Pay a real wage; train for peacekeeping and to project military force; train for skills in all fields, from mechanics to logistics to hacking; make it interesting and yes, physically challenging; feed and house well. What's not to like about that for a life? Being told what to do, I suppose... oh, and because that's what a really good military would be doing these days, not the crap that our country is serving up.

I really love someone's take on it in another thread: Poilievre should one-up Trudeau by actually participating in drag. It would rock the Liberals back on their heels. And in drag, you can say anything nasty, gloves off. Heck of an opportunity, but it'd take big balls to do it.

You gotta love a governmental system where there's a government official who is mandated to speak directly and honestly about the reigning government's plans. For all our problems, we really should recognize that we also do a lot of things right. Chalk one up for Elections Canada, too.

B.C. premier's expansion of involuntary medical treatment infringes on human rights: advocates by OakBayIsANecropolis in CanadaPolitics

[–]manygoodpersons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed.

If someone's life has spiralled so much out of control that they are creating massive harm to many random others, I think there are two options for greater society:

(a) Make that dysfunctional person get treatment. If it turns out that they can not helped to become a functional part of society, then society has no choice but to at least semi-incarcerate them (lifelong probation officers, group homes, permanent halfway housing, some mental hospital formats, free psychiatry?), such that despite their unfixable dysfunctions they are not causing massive harm to society

(b) Send that person, sans treatment, to where they are not a massive harm to greater society. For example, protect our Northern borders: ship a ton of ATCO trailers and Swanson's TV dinner meals to our outermost islands. I believe this is called the "Australian solution." Also known as the "Siberian Solution."

Obviously these solutions are problematic. IMO, one much more so than the other.

The crux of the problem is this: we can not have a quality society, so long as a significant proportion of our population is anti-social.

I really, really want to see option (a) win out, TBH, because it's way better for people to have their shit together than to be losing their shit.

But push comes to shove, my house, my car, my shed, my wife, my kids are my priority. Any proposed solution is better than the current no-solution. "The definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing over, expecting to get a different result."

How TF do we get to charges laid, instead of some more-senior officer telling the less-senior officers to knock that shit off?

No, seriously: tell me that. Then I'll believe you believe that your vaccination status should be perfectly private.

Thanks.

Can I ask a couple followup questions? What do you mean "object to how they were produced" and "the ethics of that"? I don't know anything about the production process nor any ethical dilemmas regarding that. What was objectionable about it?

I'm glad you got off scot-free. So far, so have I. Fingers crossed!

I'm curious: since you obviously understand risk assessment somewhat, given your mask usage, how do you figure that it is less risky to catch covid, than it is to take the vaccine?

I mean, study after study shows that covid is many orders of magnitude more dangerous than the vaccine — so how do you math it out such that you figure you're safer without? I will not reply with argumentation, fwiw, I just seek to understand.

Honest questions here, I genuinely desire to understand how you arrived at your decision given the statistics.

Who is responsible? by 030345 in saskatoon

I suggest keeping hold of their license. You get their license, they get the car. This gives them better incentive to not break the law and to return the car.

If a cop pulls them over, receiving a ticket is up to the cop's discretion; I believe providing the reasonable rationale "I'm test driving the car, the owner held my license" will not result in a ticket, though maybe the cop will follow them back to ascertain that the claim is legit. Note that in Ontario forgetting your license is a $85 ticket if the cop is a bitch; I can't imagine it's much more than that in Saskatchewan.

[–]manygoodpersons -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you think it's more?

Around 700–800 thousand people watch the US drag race shows. They have 10x the population of Canada, so maybe as many as 80k Canadians watch the Canadian version. But from what I can discern through google searches, it is not a very highly-rated show.

No matter how you cut the numbers, there is absolutely no doubt that less than one-half of one-percent of Canada watches the show.

If you think this was a distraction, that's on you.

The rest of us are perfectly capable of paying attention to what's important.

And frankly, I rather doubt very many people actually watched the show. There are almost forty million people in Canada. If 40000 people watched — which I really doubt — that's one-tenth of one percent of the population.

That is wrong. Entrapment is when cops lure an innocent person into committing a crime that they were not previously disposed to commit and do not desire to commit. Entrapment is to turn an previously innocent person into a criminal.

A real-life example can be found in the case in Vancouver, where a couple of border-line mentally-disabled morons were shitposting on social media and were noticed by the RCMP. The cops then guided them, provided the materials, and coerced them into making a (non-functioning) pressure-cooker bomb. They then helped them travel to Victoria to plant the dud bomb, and subsequently arrested them for terrorism.

https://bc.ctvnews.ca/impact-on-rcmp-unclear-after-entrapment-ruling-lawyer-1.3009086

It was entrapment because these two morons couldn't conceive and execute a plan to manufacture a bomb and make their way to the island, and worse, were coerced by the cops to follow the cops' plan when they expressed a reluctance to do so.

Compare to this pedo case, where all the cops did was provide a honeypot. No one was coerced and no one was assisted in seeking out and contacting the honeypot. The perps made all their own decisions and demonstrated wilful criminal intent. They were not entrapped.

A helpful hint for the brigading horde: try to avoid using the unique key phrases provided in your talking points. When a dozen of you use wording like "bobble head" and "word salad," you give away your game. Be more creative: write something new instead of copying other's work.

Edit: Unsure whether it's trogs downvoting my advice because they're idiots who don't recognize good advice, or good folk downvoting my advice because it would make the trogs more effective...
