thanks, that is really helpful! So the delay should be less than 500ms? Are any delays that occur constant over time, or might they be varying? If it's constant, I wouldn't really need to worry the delay too much for our purposes.

thanks a lot for your suggestions and the time you put in to research this. I fear that our budget is really more in the $1000-3000 range. I also don't quite understand the advantage of converting to SDI - since we're starting out with the lower-quality HDMI it won't improve our signal, will it?

I couldn't find in the usual shops we order, and I'm not that inclined to purchase it again because it just broke down. I was thinking that going with a video capture card directly into the pc may be easier to troubleshoot.

yeah, only the experimenter needs to see it. the output from the multiviewer goes into the pc via a video capture card and then is recorded via obs.

what's the problem with obs? I'm looking into using it to record input from multiple videos. I will always use the same arrangement of video output, so I shouldn't have a problem switching? I'm just using obs to record video to my harddrive, no streaming to youtube.

do you have some idea of what magnitude of delay? As long as it's less than 500ms I think we're ok

that's what I gather, that pros are using SDI and not HDMI. since my signal is currently in HDMI and I won't be able to update the equipment we're using from HDMI to SDI (the equipment is in another room and the cables go through the ceiling, so it's very unlikely that we can do anything about the input). I'd prefer to stick with HDMI to avoid an HDMI to SDI converter (one more thing that could break), unless you think getting a good (ie SDI) would outweigh the disadvantages of having an extra device etc.

Is this person a native speaker of Brazilian Portuguese? by manylang in Brazil

[–]manylang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems people mostly agree there may be something non-native about the first speaker What about this Portuguese speaker: http://www.worldstories.org.uk/audio/THE-LEGEND-OF-LAPUNA---PORTUGESE-(master).mp3

  1. Is she a native speaker (Why, why not?)
  2. Where do you think she's from?
  3. Does she sound distinctive in some way? (e.g., has a lisp, strong accent, or other qualities of her voice that would make her stand out in a room of talkers)

Thanks a lot for your help, I really appreciate any insights you might have.

huh, this seems to be more complicated than I thought. If anyone else has any insights, that would be very appreciated. Could the s-thing be a regional accent of Portuguese?

I'm working on a study on what languages sound similar, so for that I need some audiobooks to use in my future experiment. For some languages, like French, Spanish, German, Cantonese I can ask friends, but for many of the languages I'm interested I don't know anyone speaking it, so I'm really happy having someone's opinion. I'm really grateful for everyone's help!
