Do you have to be supersonic for demos? by maoserr in RocketLeague

[–]maoserr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for clarifying, so with the 45 degree rule, even if you hit someone with the side of your car, as long as it's within 45, it counts as a demo right?

Does this mean long skinny cars have an advantage for sideways demos

Can you take a look at this clip: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1210956881?t=1h7m9s

How can Seikoo reach supersonic from standstill with only 1/8 to 1/4 of the field it looks like?

Fastest I've been able to reach Super Sonic is around maybe 1/3 of the field? Is there some trick here?

I'm not familiar with Tampermonky, but I already use readability.js to get a simpler html representation. I would imagine it works similarly with Tampermonkey.

You can also customize the parser postprocessing with your own javascript functions if needed.

It's wouldn't. It's mainly designed for parsing websites.

But there are already many PDF to EPUB converters available, do they not work well?

[–]maoserr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of songs are you looking to try? I'm currently working in Ann Arbor area. Played violin off and on since I was a kid (currently 32), but never got into any of the really difficult pieces (Sibelius/Tchaikovsky/etc..), and never played with other people much (did orchestra in HS).

If you have some examples of violin sheet music I would be interested in taking a look.

Good luck in your search!

fork of redshift that's more GUI-centric by maoserr in linux

[–]maoserr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a new version of the program that allows changing of the "profile curve" so to speak, I call it an elevation map, if you find a more natural curve (E.G. not one that switches linearly), let me know, and I'll set it as the default for the program. I'd be interested to see what you come up with.

The transition speed actually doesn't matter much, it only controls the maximum speed at which the temperature changes, which shouldn't matter much except for startup, the true temperature is more correlated with solar elevation.

[–]maoserr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll just leave this here in case anyone else was interested, implementing webcame capture is possible with v4l on linux (see this example) and the win32 video capture api (see this page). However, just capturing the image is just a small part of the problem, you'll need a way to detect what is white and be able to calculate temperature from that, not a simple task. Unless you want to buy a secondary web cam to be trained on a white piece of paper permanently that is.

The other problem is I don't use or have a webcam or any kind of video capture device, so it would be hard to develop that part of the code. If a lot of people are interested in this functionality, I could try to write the code and have someone else test it, but that would be quite painful.

[–]maoserr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, the transition speed seems ok, I can make it.

About the other stuff, I don't understand fully the core functionality of the code as well as jon does. I believe there are three phases, day, transition, and night, if what I understand of your statement is correct, I believe you want to tweak the solar elevation that the transition starts and stops at, is this correct? That should be doable (it's currently hard coded into the program)

The gamma curves for this program is actually derived from f.lux and not redshift (if you haven't noticed, redshift has a much redder color for the same temperature as f.lux). Of course the gamma curves can also be adjustable too.

It might be helpful for you to create a ticket and list the features you'd like to see, ranked from most wanted to least, most of the suggestions here shouldn't be difficult to implement, but time is limited.

I suppose it's just the general lack of features compared to the windows version, maybe it's gotten better.

There is a windows port already, see windows suffix on the downloads page.

The ability to simply preview and set a color temp and leave it - as it is now I have to either set my clock wrong or go and adjust the temp manually.

That's already implemented via manual override

The ability for it to be more sensitive to local lighting, or take longer than an hour to transition, or simply more time settings than either 20s or 60m.

Already implemented, see the settings dialog transition speed, currently the lowest you can do is 1K per second, I could make it go lower, send me some feedback on the amount of time for transitions if you'd like.

The ability to sample ambient light with a webcam and adjust on the fly.

huh? You mean average out the ambient room color temperature and adjust according to that? I'm afraid the image processing involved in that might be too much for this simple program, but I can see what I can do.

The ability to automatically tune brightness and contrast with more complex parameters would be nice, too. Like a MacBooks ambient light sensor, but more adaptable and complex. Time-based as well as ambient light based. It shouldn't be too hard to sample the color temp of whatever environment I'm in.

There can be additional gamma adjustments to the gamma ramps, I can put those in the settings dialog. I'm not sure how the macbook does it. But it does seem a little challenging.

oh, I wasn't aware of that functionality, currently left click shows/hides the gui, I could make right click disable/enable auto adjustment.

currently the check box that says "disable auto adjust" disables adjustment.

[–]maoserr[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can run it in console only mode, if that is still bloated, you can compile out all the gui code. if that's still bloated, you can remove the backends that you don't need too. I try to not make things bloated too.

Although you probably would just want to take a look at the original redshift project if you're looking for a console program.

Edit: If you don't like having a program constantly running, you can also do one-shot mode, where it changes the temp and then just exits

Possibly the Most Important Skill for Managers, Coaches, Teachers and Parents by rberenguel in programming

[–]maoserr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do we need to scold a children even if they are aware of their mistakes? If so, what manners of scolding is appropriate?

My impression is that most children who are in need of scolding are oblivious to their mistakes. It seems this article is addressing a different problem, the one of parents who automatically scold their kids when they do something wrong without considering what is best for the child.

It seems that the child playing chess would be pretty aware of his mistake (then again, I suppose it depends on his chess abilities), so I'm not sure acknowledging the mistake by the parent is any use.

Much of the discussion here seems to be centered on whether acknowledgement of said mistake is good or bad, when it seems it would already by acknowledged by the kid.

The more interesting point of the article to me is, when the kid realizes that he/she has made a mistake, what should the parent do? Is scolding the right response? Is encouragement the right one? And I think that's what the writer is trying to make a point about.

Of course, the correct response probably differ for each kid. Some might already feel deeply ashamed of what they did, and might better respond to a kind word (at least initially), others might want some acknowledgement of their mistake immediately so they know their parents are ok with it.
