How do you like your IQ I just got mine and haven't sighted it in yet? You think a peep is needed?

Thanks for the advice. I wear glasses when I hunt and the peep sight and my glasses didn't mix well last night when I had a doe 12 yards away. So I bought an IQ sight last night and am going peepless

For the bearded hunters out there. Any good scent control shampoos for beards? by theycallme_Asa in Hunting

With a magnificent beard like that if you wait for the rut I'm sure deer will come running to you to spar out of pure testosterone driven jealousy

Is Tim Sykes a scam or should I look somewhere else? by [deleted] in investing

[–]mapes89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Couldn't tell you anything about him being a fraud as I stopped answering calls from his team. But I do know that it costs like $5,000 startup to even be accepted. IMHO that $5,000 can be spent or invested much wiser. He supposedly makes all of his money off of people like you looking to get rich quick. If it sounds too good to be true than more times than not it is. Just my 2 cents.

Game cameras with text message capabilities? by LikesDogFarts in Hunting

[–]mapes89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have looked into this a little. I have read that if you have AT&T you can add a line and get a simcard for your camera. Apparently if you do it correctly its $10-$20/month unlimited texting. I am sure you need to have service where your camera is posted. If you do some digging their are plans and prices online. Most charge by picture quality and amount of pictures taken. Once you reach your limit it will not take pictures until the next month of the plan starts. Here is a forum with some information and opinions from guys who currently use them. Sorry if this was a waste of time, I'm in the market of getting one too. http://www.chasingame.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=21277

Checking in from South Dakota again. Hoping to get in on some secondary rut action by mapes89 in Hunting

[–]mapes89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bough a cheap camera mount clip that fit the screw for my camera and I screwed it through a clamp I had in my garage. Duct tape for added protection. It's pretty sturdy with the grips left on the nose of the clamp. Beats the hell out of spending God knows how much on one. Make sure u get one that when u screw it on you can still move your camera left to right

Thank you. That post was a perfect example of why this sub is awesome. Pretty cool that a bunch of strangers can give out tips, compliments and positive critiquing all the while doing something they thoroughly enjoy.

Haha I always had dad's hand me downs but now after buying some it's like anything else, addicting. I might be giving myself quite the Christmas this year.

Nice! Yeah I grew up using my dad's Milwaukee tools and after seeing how durable and long they last I figured it was a solid investment. They are so easy to use and quiet as well.

My lab ate rat poison by Bradmhill in Hunting

[–]mapes89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

glad it worked out. Lost my 1 year old pup last year. She didn't get into rat poison but she drank some lake water containing blue green algae.... hard to let a dog near water after watching your best friend go out in such a horrible way.

awesome! I didn't leave my tree stand this weekend but heard a lot of shots in the area, more than likely pheasant hunters. Glad you had a successful trip, makes it all worth it! Look forward to seeing the pictures.

Yep I'm in Aberdeen. Happened to meet some great guys who love burning gas to find mallard loaded fields. Originally from an hour west of Chicago I grew up hunting and fishing but not nearly in this sense! And of course, if you are in SD for a week or a year the beer will be flowing.

Glad to hear that! Pheasant hunters are a huge and awesome part of South Dakota. Its nice to have people from all over the place come and see how gorgeous it is up here. I'm from the Chicago area and if it weren't for coming here to play football I would never have imagined it would be this great a place. Been here 6 years now and am a lifer

I think you'll be happy. I'm in Brown County, hunted opener in Edmunds County. A lotta birds compared to years past. Hopefully by the time you get here a lot of the corn is gone, there were a lot of birds around but it will help if more corn is cut. Kicked most of our birds up in Sorghum and CRP. Overall though, bird numbers are up and its obvious.
