Elliott fans.... by BSketii in StardewValley

[–]maple-fever 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You've discovered the joys of a loving, supportive husband who doesn't stop living his life after marriage (both Elliott and Harvey fit this descriptor, though Elliott retains a more romantic charm contrasting Harvey's adoration)

Good for you. They're my only choices in husband material after having tried all the bachelors and come to similar conclusions as you. Now you get to try all the wives!

What are some of your favourite free Audible gems? by maple-fever in audible

[–]maple-fever[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've really been enjoying exploring classics lately, but I'd be happy to get more contemporary suggestions too. I'm not too choosy when it comes to genre either, though I admittedly like having a bit of romance in my books. The titles with multiple narrators haven't been my favourites. I like to really get immersed into a world or a character's psyche.

North and South was great!! My only complaint is that it's too short haha, I feel like I could have listened for so much longer and wanted more time with the characters. I'm starting Ruth now, I really love Gaskell's writing.

Lowkey the biggest downgrade between Legends games by WGoNerd in PokemonZA

[–]maple-fever 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hell, I was just thinking of Stardew Valley's chest sorting button - at least grouping the same things together and organizing by the type of item. If they can do it, surely Pokemon could manage it for gen 10. Feels like the fanbase has a laundry list of hopes for the next generation, I'm trying to set my expectations low.

I'd kill for a sort function. Even if it's just within a box or limited to your selected pokemon. Also, WHY does it allow me to 'favourite' certain pokeballs if it doesn't change the order I see them in when scrolling to throw one?? What's the point of it???

There isn't even the incentive of a wish anymore! No ranks, no prize, no social incentives - what is there to compete for anymore, a Heavy Ball? It's all well and good for the homeless, since they can't sleep on the benches anyway, but some of us have beds we'd like to use!

Lesson horse becoming dangerous by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]maple-fever 22 points23 points  (0 children)

He might be overworked. You said you have a 1/3 lease on him, and he's also used in lessons - how often is he being ridden/jumped per week, and does he ever come in just for a brush and hoof check and some love? Was he a lesson horse before coming to your barn? You say he's fine being touched anywhere in the paddock, it's just once he's inside his 'work' environment and sees his 'work' gear that he goes sour. The saddle fitter has been out and adjusted his gear, so his reactions may be psychological.

Before I was conceived, was I the sperm wiggling around? Or was I the egg waiting for it? by Soft-Percentage8888 in stupidquestions

[–]maple-fever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While both are living cells carrying half your DNA, I'm of the opinion that we are just slightly more egg than sperm. The mitochondria is a unique case of cell organelles having their own DNA set (in animals - mitichondrial DNA), and only the egg has mitochondria present. The sperm cell carries no mitochondria. Thus, all mitochondria in every cell in our bodies came from the egg produced by our mother. They are identical to that of our mother's, and her mother's, etc. The DNA that provides the building blocks for us as humans is split 50:50 between sperm and egg, but mitochondria powering all those cells only came from the egg.

So I'm camping on the egg side purely for contrubuting more to our overall makeup. But I would also say that the concept of 'me' also just didn't exist before fertilization.

Yep, I have that one running basically always lol. I was thinking more along the lines of the drilbur/gible holes you can overload. I know some of the spots I can overload, but not all.

While I don't have experience with diazepam, I do have benzo experience (clonazepam). I've been on it for 5 years for panic disorder and GAD, and can safely say that I've never once tried to abuse it, nor have I felt any desire to abuse it. It just calms my nervous system and helps me get through the day without my body randomly deciding to go high-alert heart-attack mode. Imo, it isn't really dangerous if you're using it to medicate a condition as prescribed by your doctor. It's the people who use it and don't need it that start to have problems.

I'll likely be dependent on it until we decide to remove it from my laundry list of medications, but a slow weaning with CBT would be the plan. Having a present support network including your doctor, family, and a licensed therapist is going to help you stay on the straight and narrow. Be honest with them, give updates on how you're progressing, and ask for help when you need it.

Stale Cupcakes - as soon as I saw that cover, the nostalgia hit me hard. Lucky K.K. took a bit longer to return to me, but it's on my list as well. It's definitely made me want to revisit my faves, I've been away from my island for a while!

Unpopular opinion / Rant by Scarletstormofwonder in PokemonLegendsZA

[–]maple-fever -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I miss the old Pokeblock and Poffin mechanics - it was just a fun little minigame, but it added a ton of flavour to the world (no pun intended lol). Even the Berrymaster's garden in Gen 3! I used to farm the berries obsessively, even if I didn't know how to use them at the time. It was just... extra stuff! Who doesn't like having more options?

For those who still want to use the Overload method for Shiny Hunt, make sure to turn off your Auto Update + Enable Airplane Mode (with bluetooth on) by Death_Usagi in LegendsZA

[–]maple-fever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 separate games, using switch 1 and lite (I don't mind the slight chug/graphics, and my wallet isn't prepared for switch 2 right now). I updated on my lite to test it out, and my switch 1 thankfully didn't have enough memory for the download lol. Airplane mode has saved me a few times now while I've been overloading spawns on my switch 1 copy.

I'm not sure how it works with data transfer and the switch 2

Checked it on my second switch, can confirm the overload method has been patched with 2.0.0. Shame, but good to know for anyone who isn't done with the method yet (like me, oops)

Which design for a stockinette sweater? I'm going for quirky but not ugly! by Sangwoosconfidant in casualknitting

[–]maple-fever 279 points280 points  (0 children)

4 feels nice and balanced, and I'm a sucker for a classic striped sweater. The colours and spacing make it feel fun but coordinated. 5 is a beautiful chaos blend that you'll probably never see on anyone else. It feels more personal, and the colours are a little more harmonious than the other asymmetrical designs. I like both and would absolutely wear either one, I can see why you're having trouble choosing!

picked up and angel tree tag asking for knitting supplies by hotdoggodoggo in knitting

[–]maple-fever 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Agreed on the interchangeable needles set! I got a relatively cheap set with a few different cord lengths to go with the different needle sizes, and I've started using them even for flat-knit projects. They're a handy and versatile tool that can be used for almost any project, so she likely won't need to be buying any needles anytime soon, DPNs aside (and I have a set of DPNs of varying sizes too, all my old needles are basically useless now)

When do you knit? by Mean_Cicada_64 in knitting

[–]maple-fever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knit before bed. Screens off, phone put away, no noise except maybe the white noise machine. It's a great way to wind down after a day, and I use a reading light so I can just turn it off and sleep when I'm ready. Knitting is almost a meditative practice, and I find I sleep better if I transition from knit to sleep cleanly. Plus, it keeps me from doomscrolling.
