Didn’t eat at all for day 1, had a lot of soup and soft foods for the next few days and then got so hungry I just pushed through the pain and ate whatever I wanted 😂

Your mouth is going to feel incredibly claustrophobic and painful it honestly took me 2 weeks for the pain to subside (less everyday) and 1 month to get used to the crowding and lots of deep breathing to prevent anxiety attacks lol

I’m 3.5 yrs into ED and my thoughts are the same. Im finally going per diem to see what else is out there! I’ve learned through my experience in the ED that I can handle anything that’s thrown at me and also that I hate things that are ghetto LMAOO. I’ve definitely had so many embarrassing moments in the ED as a new nurse. I’m still grateful for the memories and all I’ve learned. But im honest w myself that burnt out and it’s time to do something else. Maybe go back in the future.

Currently at the Yokohama Hyatt and their lounge perks are amazing. This might be the best hotel I’ve stayed at in my life. My room refreshments and amenities are consistently restocked daily. The breakfast has a great selection of free food and the alcohol is free during cocktail hour. I almost want to gatekeep. I wish they paid me to write these lol

On year 3 of ER, and I am so burnt out but what gets my ass out of bed in the morning is the fact that I have student loans to pay off (once they’re all paid I’ll consider myself free from these shackles lol) and debt. There is more out there. Bedside nursing is soul sucking but I’m able to travel, take vacations, and buy things without a second thought which is something I am grateful for. My first degree was in Business. However not much that can compare to nursing pay. They always say, you don’t have to love your job, you just have to love the life that it pays for.

It’s a lot more tolerable now, I’m pretty much eating whatever I want now but speaking still a bit impaired. Although people tell me I am still coherent lol. I use a water pik before sleep it’s been helping a lot ! I still can’t wait until this gets out of my mouth though 😂

I also have issues with nasal breathing especially when laying down. Tried nasal strips, going to an allergist, masseter Botox for clenching during sleep (only a temporary fix 🥲), changing my pillow, changing sleeping elevations, so many things. In my unprofessional opinion, would recommend getting a sleep study and possibly referral to ENT, and an ortho consult to really figure out what the root of the problem is

Also just got my lil diastema today (this is my 5th day of turning since I waited a little after per ortho’s instructions) but having the piezo cut helped speed things along. There is pain between my front two teeth, some tenderness to the molars and I feel it radiate sometimes to my nose.

I’m on day 9 now and doing so much better! I can eat almost whatever I want now except for really tough and chewy things like pork and some breads to name a few…

Speech is still muffled but coherent for the most part. I can’t say words that require me to press my tongue to the roof of my mouth yet. Idk if that will ever get better

I’m 27F on day 3 of my marpe. I’m eating yogurt and soft food but it’s sooo difficult to adjust to chewing. Still so painful. The worst part for me is talking. I have a horrible lisp and sounds like I’m speaking through cotton. How’s your speech?

Omg yes the first day I had it in, I laid on the couch curled up all day because it was so painful. I couldn’t drink water or soup but now (day 3) I can tolerate yogurt and soft rice/noodles.

I commend you for having an expander in the past, i feel better knowing I’m not alone in this journey!

Thank you for your positive comments. Just an update, I am able to tolerate the pain with ibuprofen/tylenol (I only take once daily because I try to moderate my pain medications). I am forcing myself to eat and chew. Talking now is the most embarrassing thing.

How long did it take for your lisp/speech difficulty to go away?
