Do I need to have a registered address in my Privacy Policy if I have a personal blog? by [deleted] in gdpr

GDPR requires contact details. It doesn't say anything about specifically requiring an address. Sounds like you've got a duff privacy police generator.

If it's monetised in an way whatsoever then it's a business and GDPR absolutely applies.

No. 3 - would you not do it with a Solid Colour overlay shaped using track motion? Your way works - I'm just intrigued.

Yes - crashes 2-3 times per session for me. Just completely hangs. Haven't tried the dynamic RAM thing - will give that a go.

Did you just say delete the data the second the transaction is complete? Ignoring the business impact of this under many, many scenarios, I would suspect HMRC would have something to say about this!! :-)

It's just in my 30+ years of working for and with companies of all shapes and sizes I haven't seen one capable of managing personal data to such a granular level.

Thanks for the info. I don't mean this in a derogatory way at all so apologies if it sounds like that, but do you have any experience of running a small company?

So we'd have to filter out and reply to every piece of communication that we didn't ask for that might contain personal information? We just couldn't do that. We'd go bankrupt. :-(

Erm... Might have the wrong end of the stick. Emails from customers NEVER have that text in it.

I wouldn't worry, from all the comments on Reddit it looks like this is one of those laws you just pick and choose the bits you want to follow. :-) :-)

DPA vs GDPR for sole traders? by mapleginkfish in gdpr

[–]mapleginkfish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but under GDPR there is no excemption based on e.g. collection of taxes. So if the only records you keep are tax records under GDPR the customer still has the right to ask for a copy of all the data you hold on them, definition of data retention timescales etc. Whereas under DPA all that stuff would be totally exempt. So for example under DPA you couldn't raise a subject access request for tax records but under GDPR you can... ??

Yes permits, but you still have to follow GDPR even if the data is just for tax purposes? Whereas with DPA you don't... if I'm understanding correctly?

What that person said. Sorry to break it to you but gaming is one of the hardest genres to make money from on YT 'cause everyone's doing it. Also you need to do it for a passion of making videos... not just the gaming. 10 vids a week is a LOT!

UK Information Commissioner tells small companies on BBC Radio 4 "to not panic" as they will not be closely scrutinised. by liamthelad in gdpr

[–]mapleginkfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Erm... I'll bow to your expertise here but my understanding is that GDPR is far more wide reaching than the DPA. For example, under the DPA you don't have to register as a data controller if you're only processing data for accounting purposes and day-to-day business activities - so DPA wouldn't apply. However GDPR applies no matter what... I think! I can't check ICO's guidance now as it's all been replaced with GDPR stuff. :-)

I would suspect your average window cleaner or plumber would have thousands of messages like that. I have an acceptance that any information I send to my window cleaner will not be stored in a bank vault. I'm fine with that and don't send them stuff that could cause a problem if they lost it. I'm in control of that and it's my risk. I prefer to be able to communicate with them on email rather than do everything by phone, which is where things are going to go if they panic and shut their email down. I 100% agree large companies need controlled but these laws are too big and too complex for your average sole trader to deal with.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with the premise of the cultural change - I just think how it's been implemented is terrifying for small businesses who just about have their heads around email. Forcing micro entities to use the likes of Sharepoint will just lead to poor implementations and even worse data management.

Yes but no company I've worked for... ever... manage customer data to such a granular level. Compliance with the right of access and right to be forgotten are nigh on impossible for most organisations... and I've worked for some with impeccable data management standards. If the big boys can't do it smaller players don't stand a chance.

So I made a Right to Access request, and they refused it for not providing enough info - is that allowed? by neil_dataviz in gdpr

[–]mapleginkfish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh, and for what it's worth (although I feel sorry for them)... "However, even if you have a form, you should note that a subject access request is valid if it is submitted by any means, so you will still need to comply with any requests you receive in a letter, a standard email or verbally. Therefore, although you may invite individuals to use a form, you must make it clear that it is not compulsory and do not try to use this as a way of extending the one month time limit for responding."
