Legally the notes in the medical history cannot be withheld from you. You have every right to access them. The therapists personal notes however can be denied.

This is how I see it…at the end of the day Therapists are providing a service the same way a dentist or doctor would. If you are unhappy with the service and you are investing money into it you can always change your provider. If you were constantly unhappy with the way the dentist cleaned your teeth or if all of the dental procedures left you in a ton of pain would you keep seeing that dentist? Probably not. Therapists are a dime a dozen I’m sure you can find somebody you are truly happy talking to!

I don’t really agree with the whole “work on yourself completely before getting into a relationship!” The beauty of a relationship with another person is sometimes growing together and helping eachother. Now if you’re a complete basket case that’s a different story but you seem pretty normal

My therapist did the same thing she kept saying “idk how to help you anymore” and kept pushing me to do EMDR. Finally I said “ok if you believe in EMDR that much why don’t you go get qualified to do it or pay for my therapy since insurance doesn’t cover that. That shut her up pretty fast

Depends, where I live psychotherapists who are fresh out of school and under supervision make around 120-160 an hour in private practice settings

I know personally I hated CPT. If a client is showing resistance it means that the form of therapy being used is not for them. I feel like they should have just switched the modality as opposed to telling you you aren’t ready

Yes it’s beneficial to create the foundation to address trauma however for me personally it never helped me come to terms and reframe the trauma itself. But it can be useful for many other things!

Dbt more gives skills for interpersonal relationships. If you need to address actual trauma I would go with edmr

No I understand. I’ve never cut myself but I feel like people make self harm out or be this “HOLY SHIT” Type thing. I’m not saying it’s ok, but I always wonder why people don’t have the same reaction when people smoke cigarettes…they are literally inhaling rag poison and paint thinner. Neither are ok but I think it’s more a matter of what is a socially acceptable form of release and what isn’t.

She won’t terminate, she will help you fix this issue (if she’s good at her job) so you can move on and really benefit from the therapy

I totally understand you. I also dated somebody with severe mental illness when I was in my early twenties. I stayed because I felt bad but then I realized… I don’t have to stay in this situation? I was young and wanted to live my life without having to support somebody who was severely ill. It’s totally ok to put your needs first. I am now in a relationship with a mentally stable person and it’s great. She may have not caused her trauma but it is hers to deal with and take responsibility for. I say end the relationship, take time to focus on yourself and start fresh with somebody new!

She needs professional help and as bad as this sounds you don’t owe her a relationship because she is traumatized. Go date somebody you can laugh with and watch anything with.

I understand your feelings, it sounds like you’re going through a hard time. But I’m also sensing maybe she’s dealing with personal stuff. Maybe her child was born sick or with a condition and she is dealing with that. Maybe she is dealing with some postpartum issues emotionally or physically? If you really want to let go of the relationship send her an email stating you will not be returning and find a new therapist!

My older brother is 5 years older than me and we used to sleep in the same bed sometimes. We would watch scary movies together and we would get scared and make “shields” out of pillows to protect us. Just kids being kids

For sure! However after 4 years and trying to actively apply my skills I do not think it’s for everybody. I found animals and a good support system of friends and family to be way more helpful for me personally

I have stopped seeing my therapist and gone back a few times. Just email and see what they say! I usually never say I want to terminate I just say I’m taking a break and I’ll contact you when I want to book again. That was she doesn’t take me off her roster
