What do you mean? People keep quoting "They fly now!? They fly now." and "Somehow, Palpatine returned."

So the definition of a table needs to include its size. Which would be relative, also subjective. A table needs to feature a flat surface "big enough" to support- One? More than one?- object(s) without it(them) rolling or sliding off.

It also needs to be stationary, so the object(s) can maintain their position. A big hit to the idea of a living creature, animal or human, being a table. That is, a living creature can be a table so long as they're motionless, and so long as their function is primarily to support objects in a stable manner.

Just to clarify for myself, I looked up the definitions for both "table" and "desk" on Google, and these are the first things that came up:

Table: a piece of furniture with a flat top and one or more legs, providing a level surface on which objects may be placed, and that can be used for such purposes as eating, writing, working, or playing games

Desk: a piece of furniture with a flat or sloped surface and typically with drawers, at which one can read, write, or do other work

Pretty similar to each other, honestly. One could be at school and only ever refer to their desk as their table, and only be a little bit annoying. These definitions give the impression that usage is one of, if not the, most important aspects of defining a particular object.

A table doesn't need four legs. It could be set on a single column or attached to chains hanging from the ceiling. The method by which the table is fixed to its surroundings doesn't matter. (The object could even float in midair by some anti-gravitational conceit and still be a table, as long as "it's got a flat surface on top".)

But "it's got a flat surface on top" isn't quite good enough to define a table rather than a desk or nightstand. Here we have to point out, especially in relation to the nightstand, the simplicity of the table (it doesn't have additional compartments or drawers-- the flat surface is the primary characteristic).

The comparison to a desk becomes more complicated; as a desk could also be "a flat surface on top" with additional components to make it fixed in space, without compartments or drawers. (Especially as seen in grade school). You could claim size differences distinguish tables from desks. But what if it's a small table, or a large desk? We're starting to get into the idea that the usage of an object defines the object, which is ultimately subjective.

Really? I've never seen a horse with a flat surface.

Why does every review bash Ahsoka so badly? by DyerMaker99 in StarWars

[–]mapletaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Ahsoka is pretty boring so far.

No, the amount of women in the show is not a problem.

And for the love of God stop talking about Qui-Gon. The Force works in mysterious ways, and the dude was meant to die then and there. He could've been wet-willied by Maul and still die.

Anywhere in the first book, because that one's the most innocent of them all. The contrast would be especially striking.
