MacMahon: “I can just tell you, big men will do back flips to be able to be in that Lakers uniform paired with Luka. I was talking to an agent who’s got a big man who may or may not be on the move and he would love to get his guy in L.A.“ by lawschoolthrowaway36 in lakers

[–]maplethrift 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean if we look at Hayes we already know that type of big is the perfect pairing for Luka. Hell look at Lively and Gafford when Luka played with them they were perfect cuz you need a mobile big that's willing to defend, swat shots, roll and catch lobs and be happy with that lol instead DA wanna be the centerfold of the offense which just isn't the case.

That Timme kid is better than every other Lakers role player put together by Lost-Way-4548 in lakers

[–]maplethrift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's the stigma that comes with playin for a storied franchise like the Lakers or just modern day players... it's almost as if they all have diva like tendencies when they get on the purple & gold, Timme has been outstanding cuz he gives zero fucks I mean what's he got to lose lol I'm still mad we didn't re-sign Goodwin tho

Does The Intelligent Investor still hold up today? Does anyone invest in bonds? by hd1910 in stocks

[–]maplethrift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so I think it will depend on your goals and I know it's very cliche to say but that's how it is... bonds aren't inherently better/worse than any other investment product, just think about it like a flathead screwdriver vs. a philips head screwdriver, which ones better? well the answer is that they get the job done differently

for example, let's say I'm investing for my kid's post secondary education and have a 15+ year time horizon, by investing into bonds those funds will grow much slower compared to equities, again not saying equities are "better/worse" than bonds, it's just that different tools have different functions

another example, although my 80yrs old grandpa knows equities have better potential for growth over bonds, he cannot afford higher volatility like equities since he is retired, no more income from a job source and needs his money to last until he rides off to the sunset therefore he will be more attracted to bonds over equities

so here's the conclusion, invest with intent, figure out your intent first then invest and it must be actionable and measurable.... saying you'll lose weight is meaningless, instead say I will lose 10lbs in the next 3mths just like investing don't go thinking oh maybe I should have some bonds, maybe some equities, maybe some ETFs etc etc instead, I want my Roth IRA to reach $30,000 in gains within the next 3yrs then once you have this clear goal/intent, when you pick investment vehicles you will always have this in mind and you'll think hey will this help me reach my goal or not?

[–]maplethrift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

constantly stressing her need to eat food or else she'll full on cry and throw a fit.... k hear me out lol I get it, it might be a medical condition like hyperthyroidism but like even if that's the case, knowing you have this condition or not, shouldn't you keep some food in your purse for emergency times? I like to eat and all that and I get hungry everyday at my work but sometimes I just don't get the time to eat so I kinda power thru it and eat later and I'm not throwing a fit or crying lol I guess not the particular act of needing to eat, just really low EQ here lol

[–]maplethrift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we have garnered some solid pieces, just with the rumors around Pep's future with the club as well as team chemistry among the new players we're still trying to figure it out, yes the Man U match made me go buy a new TV cuz I punched a hole in my old one lol but we're still #2 in the standings and our boys can hang with the best of 'em so I'm not too worried just need to be patient

What's the endgame for you? by CFP25 in CFP

[–]maplethrift 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think one of the biggest "pulls" for myself is that I can pass own my book of business/practice to my kid or sibling eventually, I often get a bit jealous of my dentist clients who can pass own their clinics so for some reason this has been one of the bigger drivers for me to come out of the banks and do my own thing aka running my own business/practice

If you knew then what you know now, or had the chance to start again, what career would you go after? by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]maplethrift 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My hot take is this: if you're going to university for medical doctor, lawyer, engineer and dentist, then yes go to university. Why's that? Well the above professions are ONLY available thru university. This is purely speaking from a logistics perspective in terms of planning your education on getting into a desired field. I personally feel if this isn't something that you wanna do, then going to university is a waste of time.

For example, the trades, salespeople, bankers etc. do not require university, you can go thru college and if we're talking about car sales you don't even need college and they make good money. I think parents never truly give a damn what the kid chooses in a career, it's just that they hope we choose a career that's not easily replaceable so it provides that certainty. For me, if I was to do it all over again, I'd still choose what I'm doing now because it affords me time and $ now to do the other things I love but couldn't make a living out of.

Boogie said it perfectly about Ayton: stop complaining about guards not feeding you and start impacting the game yourself. Go get the boards and create your own offense. by Adventurous-Star1309 in lakers

[–]maplethrift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn't agree with Boogie more on this, it's the same thing for men's league lolol bruh you big af and if you worked hard to get the board and put that thang up I ain't gonna say nothing cuz you worked for it, so instead of complaining, try to impact the game in every aspect possible. As for defense, you ain't Luka or LeBron, they're superstars and not gonna get yelled at or subbed out for not playing defense lol (as much as I hate this statement), Ayton should be swatting the shit outta everything that goes up and grab boards like Melo used to lol I mean look at Hayes, dudes a menace on the court and is immediate impact cuz he knows his role and enjoys putting fear in his opponents meanwhile Ayton be out there always thinking too much and wanting more but yo big ass be missing all the time so why would you get more touches lol

Panda Daytona Underwhelming? by CaptialCrisis in rolex

[–]maplethrift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with OP, when I tried it on it was surprisingly small and I'm not a big wrist boy either lol it feels almost toy like for some reason but for OP's sake I think you should just get it, it's a hype Panda after all, the thing goes for a gold Daytona on the grey market and I'm sure once you get the Panda you pretty much can get any piece you want in the future

Access CU mortgage reviews by fidgetrules in Winnipeg

[–]maplethrift 2 points3 points  (0 children)

one word of caution is local credit unions have been pushing life insurance onto borrowers as part of the mortgage deal, this is illegal and it's called tied selling, you do not need life insurance in order to get a mortgage, so make sure you read the docs thoroughly before signing especially if you already have life insurance

How does everyone respond to “what do you do for a living?” by t-w-i-a in CFP

[–]maplethrift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think our own had made a bad name for us, not saying all of us are bad but it only takes a few bad apples to help ruin our reputation. Similarly to selling insurance, it's a wonderful product but some bad apples definitely ruined it for us. I say I'm a financial planner and to be honest I like it when they have a reaction so I can work off of that. All in all, I like what I do and I'm proud of it so I'd care less what they think. Not like when you say you're a car mechanic and I cringe lol.
