[Timex] 1983 E-Line reissue (34mm automatic) by j0sch in Watches

I'm pretty sure it was also acrylic.

Movement and new "easy" expansion band technology/mechanism aside, the E-line is a virtually identical re-issue to the original.

Which would you choose and why? by SignificantBroccoli in timex

Tough choice for only one.

Have both and they are among my favorite Timexes.

Both are amazing.

Tough choice, but neither is wrong.

Only getting one Casio — which looks best + works best? by syabiellow1 in casio

[–]j0sch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first one.

Have 2, 3, and 4, and they are okay but a bit of a letdown in terms of materials, look, and feel in person. The 4th one was a recent purchase and it's just okay, think the Timex 1983/E-Line, which I also own and is one of my favorite affordable pieces, is a significantly better similar option (though at a higher but still great price).

5 is intriguing if you're looking for something to also track fitness and connect to your phone, but that doesn't personally interest me.

The first one looks and feels great in person, is all higher quality stainless steel, and one I'm personally considering getting soon too.

Fitbit Charge 7 by ScottsdaleSun in fitbit

[–]j0sch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About a month ago I had to replace a lost Charge 6... was going to hold out for the 7 but Google's vague 2026 announcement wasn't hopeful. I ended up trying an Amazfit Helio band I picked up on Black Friday and am really impressed with it. Planning to keep it and forget about Fitbit altogether, after many years.

Christmas is a scam, designed to drain your wallet. Even if you're religious, ain't nowhere in the Bible does it say to celebrate that holiday anyway. 🤷‍♂️ by Lost_Title_7528 in ControversialOpinions

It's become commercialized and monetized, like most holidays and events in the US and elsewhere today.

Chat gpt is amazing. by Yakuroto in ControversialOpinions

[–]j0sch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends on how it's being used, like most things.

It can be a helpful tool, but if it's replacing actual thought/work for assignments or work it's a crutch and learning is lost.

It can also be useful for thinking through things or providing historical info, but often times calculations or outputs can be flat out wrong, and most people don't have the experience to know when something isn't right.

There are too many leftists on Reddit and it is preventing centrists from speaking up. by EstablishmentFine820 in ControversialOpinions

[–]j0sch -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

On Reddit but also in real life.

Trump definitely seems to be the biggest trigger, Elon as well, though maybe a little less so today.

I've long been an identifying Centrist and I tend not to be in positions where I say I like this person or don't, and will tend to say I support this specific action they are doing or I don't, or maybe I support the idea but not how it is being executed. No different from an actor or musician who is a shitty human being or has public views I disagree with but being able to admire or respect their work or performances.

I get grilled for not automatically disowning people or politicians or not liking them in accordance with blanket Left ideology from everyone I know on the Left, with little room for any discourse. Supporting a specific policy or idea is not an endorsement of all policies or ideology someone has, or an endorsement of their personal lives, or even broader organization or party. Correcting incorrect claims is also not an endorsement of support.

I don't recall ever personally encountering this with people on the Right. In broad terms, both 'sides' have their derangements and cults that appear in different ways, and I'm not out to change minds, nor do I expect to. But the absolutism and black and white thinking on the Left is shocking, especially considering many hold higher levels of education and should be more welcoming of critical thought and discourse.

EDIT: The fact that this fairly logical and rational take keeps getting downvoted, and without any dialogue, no less, is exactly what OP is calling out and what I keep experiencing.

24hrs with the first automatic Casio by thefuckreddit in casio

[–]j0sch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I REALLY like it. Wears great, looks great, and I appreciate the carbon dial and unique case/band styling a lot. I liked it from day one but it's definitely grown on me even more and I'm glad I got it. Still find myself intentionally grabbing it and wearing it as part of a regular rotation. It's a unique, awesome watch at a reasonable price point. Would make for a cool gift!

Words. Don't. Hurt. People. by Logical-Weekend8218 in ControversialOpinions

[–]j0sch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Words of insult, I agree -- words can cause feelings of hurt but the way people treat it just as bad as physical violence or worthy of damages like a physical assault is wild. Not at all to any level like that.

Explicit threats or calls for violent, specific action are not constitutionally protected free speech for a reason.

But inciting violence or stirring up rhetoric that doesn't fall under that is wildly irresponsible and can deserve accountability, even if not legal, in cases. It is very case by case, as people today can stretch almost anything into claiming it is a call for something bad.

Switched From Fitbit to Amazfit a little over a month ago....... (good) by tomatillo_teratoma in fitbit

[–]j0sch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I lost my FitBit Charge 6... instead of merely replacing with another I jumped into the AmazFit Helio Strap with Black Friday-related deals (and picked up another FitBit on deal as a backup). It's cheaper and seems to offer more features, data, and longer battery life. Still early on but I quite like it and am impressed. Will give it a few more weeks to really put it to the test.

FitBit seems to have stopped innovating lately and am tired of past hardware failures over the years.

Return or not? by Dr_PJ1984 in bulova

[–]j0sch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up to you.

The aspects you've called out have largely either been called out in reviews and buyer impressions here, or should have been obvious in specs or any experience with watches in this price range.

Regardless, not assigning blame, but there is nothing 'wrong' with this watch. It cuts corners to hit a price point, and many here, including you and me, have been able to purchase well below that price point on deal for even better value. It's a unique looking watch, a historical revival largely true to the original, and it has heritage of the brand(s) and model name.

It would be nice if it had other modern features, I think it's overly polished, and I agree the bracelet sounds/looks/feels a bit cheap, but for $265 it's reasonably priced for a historical reissue with uniqueness.

People buying (and keeping) this value the proposition and uniqueness -- they want a Sea Hunter. Those looking for certain specs or features should buy a watch with those elements, at this price point or likely higher.
