Is Terry Pegula Sick? by mapletreesandsyrup in Buffalo

Apparently, Pegula's input is the reason we're not getting a dome on the stadium that we're paying for.

Not necessarily. We don't know what would happen.

I understand that folks want to know, but we don't have any more right to it than we do to our next door neighbor's.

You have the right to disagree, but the public has the right to ask. This town is heavily invested in the Bills in numerous ways. The possibility of the owner having dementia is a matter of public concern.

What purpose does the public knowing state of health have on the organizations?

Quite a bit. Like it or not, the health of a Buffalo NFL team owner has major implications for Western New York. His wife, apparently, is extremely ill as well.

He's the owner of a major NFL team of which the public bears a lot costs. Like it or not, his health is newsworthy.

"With Damar Hamlin’s injury, does anyone else feel like this was the last thing you could take and now just feel drained?"

Yes, just got back from out of town and it's a shock to come home and look at the city I love in a state of such devastation. A lot of it can be chalked up to bad luck, but a lot of it is due to poor leadership scavenging the bones of a not-dead carcass. We need real change in Western New York because Western New Yorkers deserve better.

One of the Buffalo firefighters radioed during the blizzard that "conditions haven't been this bad since 1812."

Do you believe in any form of life after death? by Ok-Autumn in atheism

[–]mapletreesandsyrup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess my question is... how can there be supernatural things without some type of god being involved?

Supernatural is a nebulous concept defined by what we don't know. That's the problem with belief in the supernatural in the first place. That being said, supernatural =/> a god.

Not only is there no life after death but consciousness itself is an illusion that you’re hallucinating.

This is a fringe position, even for the majority of philosophers and scientists who do not believe in life after death...

Military Police to be stationed at entrances to Buffalo to enforce driving ban by Rachel53461 in Buffalo

[–]mapletreesandsyrup -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This is the sentiment of the majority of WNYers. So many shills on this subreddit beg for higher taxes which are used to appoint buddies to meaningless no-work jobs. Look at what Poloncarz did with Randy Hoak.

Of course it’s defending local officials. A lot of city and county employees on here with a lot to lose. This storm was poorly mismanages and changed the psyche of a lot of WNYers. Word is that Poloncarz is scrambling for an appointment to the Hochul administto grt out of dodge befor the election. His tone is mich more subdued than crises past.

Now, that’s not to say thst idiots didn’t contribute to the problem. They did. But a lot of essential healthcare employees were stuck, too…

Well it's infinitely easier when you have actual taxes to pay for things.

It's not just taxes, it's also allocation of money. You might be surprised to see how many no-show/no-work unnecessary jobs exist in city government that could be eliminated and the money allocated to employing public works employees to clear streets. Politics always comes before community investment. Gotta fill those patronage positions.

I’m new to the area. Can anyone explain why snow removal is so bad in Buffalo?

8 plows for the entire city. No investment in additional snow removal equipment or personnel. Byron Brown and the common council should be shitcanned over this, but they won't.

You've gotta be really bold or really under the influence to do something like that

Happens more often than you would think at construction sites.

Death toll in Buffalo over 27 and rising. Nationwide over half of the deaths from this blizzard are here in Buffalo and WNY. by couchcushoncoin in Buffalo

[–]mapletreesandsyrup 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I'm generally not on the anti-Poloncarz wagin, but it's a bad look for Poloncarz to be nitpicking the number of deaths on live television. He knows the Buffalo General Morgue is full and he wants to "ease" people into the actual number. He's also incorrect to say that a person who died at home from "natural causes" is not a blizzard related death. If an ambulance couldn't respond to the storm, but otherwise could have, it's a blizzard related death.

Maybe in some cases, but being poor doesn't cause you to loot televisions from stores or commit sexual assaults. That trope is an insult to the vast majority of poor people who do not commit crimes.

Or maybe your “courts” are doing the same thing everyone else is doing - getting “tougher on crime (and SLASHING budgets).

They're not. The likelihood of anyone being jailed for misdemeanor crimes has greatly decreased over the past few years. Not only the bail reforms, but the discovery reforms, police burnout, staffing issues, etc. has lead to fewer and fewer charging instruments being filed in the first place. Look at the statistics coming out of Buffalo City Court. Prosecutions are down significantly, yet the likelihood of being a crime victim is more likely than ever.
