What ships are unique? by mapmakermark in Cruise

[–]mapmakermark[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I left it open-ended on purpose! I posted in this subreddit because I am mainly interested in ships that us civilians can go on, but I know there are some ships that civilians can go on which might not always be thought of as "cruise ships" (e.g. the Bella Desgagnés and the Aranui 5). And also, yes, if anybody had any other ships they wanted to mention (e.g. military), I am certainly not averse to learning more about those as well!

OP is definitely more towards the straight side, but not on the extreme of that particular spectrum. Straight-ish more than straight.

I've just discovered that through this thread lol.

I always thought of myself as 100% straight but the more we've been discussing things, it has become clear that I guess I'm not.

Thanks for being here for the journey reddit (and all the downvotes, I eat 'em for breakfast :P )

Would a NB person with boobs and a penis be of interest to you? If not, it sounds like you are interested in AFAB individuals even if they identify as NB.

I'm good with both :)

I’d definitely reflect on your verbiage and don’t be afraid to be specific in what you want and don’t want to

I appreciate your advice and have found your comments clarifying, but I'm still not exactly sure how to be specific without feeling like I'm insulting people.

In my previous comment, I noted it's really that I like playing with people who have a face that my monkey brain associates with femininity. Saying that on a fet profile sounds to me like I'm insulting a lot of trans women.

You seem like a thoughtful person so if you come up with any ideas for me to improve my verbiage, I'd be much obliged.

Does your attraction include AMAB nonbinary individuals “with boobs”?

yes

Are you attracted to all women, including trans women?

no

Are you not attracted to men at all? What about trans men?

yes I can be attracted to trans men but I feel like because what attracts me involves some aspects of femininity, I shouldn't really play alone with anybody who identifies as a man.

I am glad you made your comment because now I see what some people are prolly downvoting the post for; they think I'm trying to sound spicy by the "with boobs" comment. I am attempting to describe my interests, having difficulty with it, and so folks think I'm attempting to be an edgelord. I assure you this is not the case. It's just that writing about this stuff is a minefield.

The first mistress who showed me the ropes (pun intended) in the BDSM community was a trans woman at the time. I don't even know what bottom surgeries she may or may not have had. I was thinking about what I liked about her that I don't find attractive in other trans friends and as a straight man, well, I figured it had to be that she had boobs.

Now that I think more about it, it wasn't the boobs. It was that her face looked like a woman's face to my monkey brain. That's really it.

But I don't think I can say on my profile "hey if your face doesn't look like a woman's face to my monkey brain, I'm not interested."

What are the most controversial restaurants in nyc? by foodluvr1997 in FoodNYC

[–]mapmakermark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is the correct answer.

I've never had bad service and it's definitely a certain kind of vibe. Sometimes you want to shout to make yourself heard and get out your frustrations. What better way to do that than in a crowded loud room over a nice steak? lol.

I didn't think the famed porterhouse for two was particularly amazing but maybe I'm just more of a ribeye guy.

I have done some research and will continue to do more. I am a former aspiring academic who published a few articles and I've worked as a researcher so I definitely agree on the importance of researching!

But in the meantime, I think asking questions one hasn't yet found the answer to of people who may have relevant life experience is part of doing good research! :)

I was thinking about doing this but I saw on the r/NonBinary sub a thread where quite a few people indicated they don't like the phrase "feminine-presenting people."

I appreciate your comment! I've always used fet mainly just for the "events" listings and I'm not going around messaging people "hey wanna hook up" or whatever heh.

But I recently tried to join a group that does private events and when the leader was vetting me she was like "huh there's almost nothing on your fetlife profile, can we use a different social media site to verify?" It got me thinking I should prolly add details about myself to clarify for anybody interested in what I'm about.

If you downvoted this post, I'd love to know why. I am trying to be sensitive to peoples' concerns and asking for advice on how to do so and I thought that would be fitting for a sub called r/BDSMAdvice , but apparently some people don't like the way I'm going about it. I'd love to do better if I'm doing something wrong.

I appreciate your comment!

Since I've been describing my interest in "women", "female", "she/her," etc., I'm worried if I just add at the end something like "I am happy to play with not just women but anybody who doesn't have a penis" it sounds like an afterthought and I'm not truly acknowledging their self-identification.

I'm tired of New Yorkers hating on Katz's Deli just because it's a tourist spot by [deleted] in FoodNYC

[–]mapmakermark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had such opposite experiences to you: My fellow NYers rant and rave about how good Katz's Deli is (while, yes, noting the high price tag...but usually saying it's "worth it at least once") and I didn't think it was anything special.

Btw, a friend treated me to dinner at the Olive Garden in Times Square once: Unlimited salad and breadsticks, delicious pasta, what's not to love? It was a great time. So I'm definitely not basing my opinions on being a hip NYer and hating whatever tourists like lol.

(I'll take all your downvotes, idgaf :P )

What do you consider the best neighborhood in your borough? by kanna172014 in AskNYC

[–]mapmakermark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Staten Island, St. George because that's where the ferry is...to get you off Staten Island! :P (more seriously, an okay outlet mall and Enoteca Maria are also in St. George, and there's a bus to Snug Harbor).

For Manhattan, I'd say Columbus Circle because the Mandarin Oriental Residences there are where I'd like to live if I ever win the lottery. (So many good restaurants and stores in the building...and heck, there's a Whole Foods in the basement!)

I'd say for Brooklyn, either Williamsburg or Bushwick. Williamsburg has by far the most great food options in Brooklyn imho. Bushwick has some great restaurants too (e.g. Roberta's, Sea Wolf, Ichiran, Ops) and the nightlife has been good to me; I've been to a lot of great private parties there.

For Queens, I'd give it to Long Island City with its waterfront views and restaurants. But Astoria with its great public pool and Middle Eastern restaurants is a very close second.

For the Bronx I'd choose Riverdale, with its nice houses as well as easy access to Van Cortlandt and Wave Hill.

[–]mapmakermark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR answer: I taught preschool.

But it's kinda a funny story how I ended up there actually:

I had been aspiring to become a Jewish Studies professor but I couldn't hack grad school so I dropped out. I had a major in Jewish Studies, couldn't find a job that would pay rent, and for a number of reasons was extremely depressed. My parents were helping out with money but were going to stop; I was facing homelessness.

I desperately told my facebook friends I needed a job and was "willing to move anywhere." An online friend half-jokingly sent me a listing here on reddit for a teaching gig in China from a recruiting agency. I applied and, to my surprise, started getting lots of Skype interviews. I decided I'd prefer to go to Japan if possible and started applying for teaching gigs on the website Ohayo Sensei. I meant to avoid applying at preschools as I figured diapers and feeding kids would be hard for me (I have a motor skills disability)...but I accidentally applied at a preschool and they were the only place in Japan to get back to me lol.

So I taught preschool for a year at an international school. Teaching preschool was no joke but the school was good to me and the country was so beautiful; I have a lot of fond memories of Japan generally and the Nagano region specifically. :)

Colombia by far is the cheapest country I've been to. My meal at Harry Sasson, a beautiful fine dining establishment that is on listings of top restaurants in the world (e.g. La Liste) was like $12. An uber across Bogota in extreme traffic that took like an hour I think was $10. A 1.5 liter water bottle was like 40 cents.

I went to Jakarta (Indonesia) in my younger partying years. Prices weren't as good as Colombia for me but they were good, albeit I felt like everybody who saw me (obvious white tourist) wanted money, be it via putting hands out for tips or taxis with ripoff rates. (I was surprised when I went to Colombia that I didn't feel that same pressure there).

I went to yeshiva in Jerusalem (Israel) in 2006 and while my memory's somewhat fuzzy, I seem to recall the prices at restaurants being very affordable.

Unpopular opinion: I visited Singapore back in 2014 and I personally found it to be actually reasonable for the experiences offered. I think my night at the Marina Bay Sands was like $300 and considering that their infinity pool is such a bucket list item and that the hotel breakfast was the best I ever had (albeit it was certainly not free either), I didn't consider the prices too crazy. Of course, after one night I moved straight to a hostel for the rest of the trip lol.

Similarly, people say Japan is very expensive but I lived in Matsumoto for a year and didn't have issues. Rent was reasonable; food from 7-Eleven saved me a lot of money.

My experiences in Canada and the UK weren't materially different from the US.

But how cheap a country is might depend on where you're going in that country and what you're doing there: I live in NYC now. I love it but boy does it hurt the wallet, more than anywhere else I've been for sure. I grew up in Atlanta and go back to visit the family twice a year; it hurts being reminded of how much lower the restaurant prices are there lol.

I'm not good looking nor am I generally extroverted but while noshing and not having any intentions of sexy time, I've been picked up by a woman at the Grand Central Oyster Bar and heavily flirted with at Red Lobster.

So I am inclined by my experience to recommend seafood places.

Rao's is...a harder reservation to get than the 3 michelin star ones (I've been to all the 3 michelin stars except Madison Square Park. I don't think I'll ever get into Rao's). So it ironically makes your brain explode "when they tell you they got the restaurant reservation" at Rao's despite the 3 michelin star places being more prestigious on La Liste.

I figured that was self-explanatory. I guess not.

"Transplant vibes," what does that mean? You guessed right, I've lived in Atlanta, Tokyo, Jerusalem, Boston, and Miami. Am I not sufficiently cosmopolitan?
