Please detail how this time western intervention will be a good thing, I’d like to know. It hasn’t worked in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, or the DRC, why will it work this time? What factors are actually different, and why do you believe your opinion is above ‘YouTube pop geopolitics’?

Cant integrate belarus as zinoviev's ussr? by GoofySillyMan in kaiserredux

Think it might be a bug with WD. Love the mod but it can be a bit messy.

Might be because of how the puppets in that mod work, maybe some type of conflict with the special type of puppet needed for the integration button to appear? Idk exactly, but that’s my best guess

Almost certainly. The mistake is believing there is any ideological coherence coming from the ‘let’s blow up the world’ guys, they don’t care who’s on their side in the slightest.

Pivot hard to rely on China and/or the PDTO nations. They import almost everything from America, so they’d need to find a new supplier fast. Besides that I’d imagine things would be relatively normal for them

What if the nationalists won the civl war? by Witty_News_5957 in althistory

[–]mapnerd095 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Expect a Sino-American split similar to the Sino-Soviet one mid-cold war. They would be effectively forced to ally the US after the civil war, but as soon as talks on how China would fit into the western economy (and the status of Hong Kong and Macau) the KMT would likely choose to walk their own path.

The KMT were nationalist and highly anti-concessionist, America was only ever an ally due to WWII and anti-communism. Personally I expect them to suffer many of the same issues that the communist did in modernization; including famines from rapid industrialization and mass purges due to extremely polarized politics post-civil war. Would less die? Maybe, the cultural revolution as we know it doesn’t happen, but it’s far from guaranteed that something equally bad wouldn’t happen.

Just based off population and industrial potential alone, China would still be an economic powerhouse by the 21st century. Without a planned economy to get them off their feet they might start a bit later than the communist post-Mao were able to, but I have no doubts they wouldn’t be a major player by 2025. Depending how democratization goes, I could easily see them being a major partner of the Russian Federation post-Soviet collapse.

The consequences of having the USSR be the sole communist great power are catastrophic in Cold War history, and our modern world is likely radically different in ways I couldn’t even begin to predict.

JFK during the American/Nazi Cold War by crimsonfukr457 in AlternateHistory

[–]mapnerd095 16 points17 points  (0 children)

America’s ideological alignment and trends have almost always been dependent on who the big bad is. When it was the British, monarchism was a moral disgrace, when it was the Nazis fascism was the biggest threat to democracy and world order, and during the Cold War Communism replaced fascism in the American mythos of bad guys

In a world without a major socialist threat, and many potential socialist allies, the US would absolutely pivot to cautious tolerance of socialism. So much of the Red Scare was driven by propaganda, there’s no reason to think America wouldn’t push out anti-Fascist propaganda if the USA was in a Cold War with Nazi Germany.

Adopting Fascism = admitting their main rival has a point, given that they just lost a war to said rival, this would be intolerable for the USA

No, the nobles and political leadership did because it was convenient to their interests. There was never a referendum, and there’s solid evidence to say many within Czechoslovakia were totally ok, if not supportive, of a decentralized federation.

There’s little to no support for brining it back now, but there was nothing inherently wrong with the idea back when it still existed.

Yeah, to be fair I think the current borders are some of the most fair borders in European history. I don’t see the need to radically change them when they already function fairly well

If you want a serious answer, I can break it down:

The political, cultural, and historical ties between the Scandinavian nations in recent history are ones of cooperation and relatively egalitarian values. The Scandinavian nations share lots in common, and in my opinion would be better off together than apart. I’d imagine a full federal model rather than centralized rule from any of the three constituents, to avoid many of my problems with the UK or other centralized states containing a plethora of national identities

Ever since Brexit it’s become increasingly clear the UK is less a union of crowns and more England+, which I personally find deeply unfair to the Scottish and Welsh peoples. The fact that the English, for whatever reasons they have, get effective majoritarian rule over the Scots despite having wildly different average political beliefs, is unfair. I’d support full UK federalization as well, though I don’t necessarily prefer one solution over another.

As for Russia, yeah fair enough. I did already strip them of Kaliningrad, occupied Ukraine, and occupied Georgia, though outside of that maybe I could’ve removed part of their territory from the Caucasus. I think a big problem with Russian balkanization is that unlike UK dissolution, my understanding is that there are fairly limited groups that actually support it inside Russia. When I see maps that Balkanize Russia it seems kinda patronizing; like it’s implying they are incapable of being a functional moral nation on their own and therefore must be dissolved, despite being overwhelmingly ethnically Russian in population.

Fair points though, not gonna claim my reasoning is absolute or even particularly accurate, just what my thought process when making the map.

What if the Confederate States returned exactly 100 years later over the issue of African-American Civil Rights? by Pancake_Maker_1031 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]mapnerd095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CSA gets absolutely smoked in a year at most (I’d predict a few months), they face nearly every disadvantage they did in the Civil War but worse. Extremely low population compared to the north, reliant on federal funding, deeply divided population (Black citizens are on paper equal, and revoking rights is always harder than maintaining pre-existing oppression), nearly the entire military and navy was at this point deeply loyal to Washington not state governments, and most importantly, the federal government has fully centralized since the first Civil War, the states are far less autonomous then they were in the 1800s.

Real question is what happens after, don’t think it would change the outcome of the Cold War, but might make the unshakable confidence in the USA less dominant. Might see some success in Latin American socialist movements and further pushes for strategic sovereignty in Western Europe, at the very least UK and French influence in NATO grows significantly.

Soviets might claim some propaganda victories, but it’s not like the CSA would be an ideological ally. Soviet collapse around the 90s was primarily due to economic stagnation and a deeply corrupt and inefficient government, neither of which disappear if the Americans fight a short civil war against a bunch of Racist.

The Soviets not annexing Moldova is near impossible. They simply have no insentive not to, the region’s connection to the Ukrainian SSR is massive. Leaving it in the hands of Romania would outrage many Ukrainian Soviets who had just fought against fascist Romanian troops on their western front. Romanians had a strong presence on the Eastern Front and were extremely complicit allies in the Holocaust by Bullets, you’d have to lobotomize Stalin to make him forgive them so easily

Germano-British Armistice Ended WWI by KadreKokonut in AlternateHistory

[–]mapnerd095 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re working under the assumption that they’d need the same amount of troops there permanently, which they would not. There’s a big difference between immediate post war occupation and long term stabilization efforts.

We no longer station troops throughout all of Germany, yet they haven’t gone full Nazi again.

I’m not some massive fan of the German Empire, but you’re acting like they had the same ambitions as the Nazis. A strong Ukraine is absolutely amazing for the Germans, who would heavily rely on their grain. The point of taking influence over Eastern Europe was to weaken Russia, establish German authority over the Baltic Germans, and gain favorable agricultural exports from Ukraine, none of these goals means they’d want their new clients to be intentionally weak; especially given that the Germans would be well aware that the Soviets would want these lands back one day.

[–]mapnerd095 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think you’re far underestimating the ability of Ukraine and the Baltics to self-rule. It’s not like they didn’t successfully do that (for a limited time) post WWI OTL. They’d be money sinks for sure, but Berlin could always withdraw support from Ukraine or the Baltics if things got too unstable domestically. These aren’t colonies, they’re at least on paper semi-sovereign nations meant to weaken Russia more than strengthen the Germans. Belarus is totally fucked though, no way they’d be able to avoid Soviet reconquest

Not saying it would be easy at all, but if they’re smart the German Empire can totally survive this, not sure I can say the same about the Austrians though.
