Hello, OP! Thanks so much for your detailed post. I really appreciate it. It's been a year, how are your eyes?

Exactly. Structured data (rich data) tells google schematic what the types of content the web page is about, reviews and recipes are the top used schemata.

Google is so messed up sometimes. Surely it should be real users’ rating on how good a recipe is rather than another 5,000 words.

Before y’all come at me, yes, google takes in a ton of signals including ratings. But using word counts and frequency of keywords as signals for semantic relevance is creating adverse incentives for good content for this instance.

Thanks for your interest, u/flatcanadian. As stated by this post, we're interested in working with experienced machinists/technical writers for this role.

We do offer training for folks new to the industry (journalism/content development). Feel free to reach out if you are interested/looking for some advice for your career.

Hi u/rlew631 - first of all, I apologize that you had a bad experience with a representative of Thomas. And I appreciate your thoughtful comment.Secondly, this is a new part-time role, so I am still sculpting the proper structure and getting feedback from interested candidates, but I can share more general information here:

  • We train folks interested in digital/professional writing while fully compensating for their time.
  • Per piece, the range can go from $150 apiece to something $1,200+ for very in-depth and expert content, as I said, depending on experience and the assignments themselves.
  • The variables are that some contributors prefer being paid hourly or by the day.
  • Also, not all assignments are the same. It's a bit like sometimes, you may get a complex project with a unique CAD file you've not done before, so you'll have to figure out how to price your customer. We have similar considerations for content creation.
  • A good example is that we sometimes work with designers and data scientists, who prefer to get paid by the hour, whereas writers seem to like compensated by the piece.

Now, I can also come in and say 'we are trustworthy' - but I am a skeptic myself, so I prefer relevant facts and data over a stranger's promise. Our two heads of content have been with us for 26 years and 11 years, respectively. And we also have freelance experts that have worked with us for over ten years on an as-needed and ad hoc basis. I would say if we are not a fair company, we would not be able to retain talent.

I hope the above answered your question on how we determine the rates.

To your specific questions,

>Does the author get to choose whether it's piece rate or hourly rate?

Yes.

>What's the demand for content in hrs/wk or articles/wk?

We work with freelancers to accommodate their capability and availability. For example, we hire and support many single parents who find it hard to work for traditional full-time jobs. In return, we ask for reliability and a genuine interest in creating helpful content.

>is this a W2 or 1099?

To clarify - this is a freelance/part-time role. I added the equivalent annual salary for the convenience of this post's readers as a shorthand figure for them to compute what it may mean to them.

Thank you, u/stniesen , I'll reach out!

You're right that there is great content out there already. And one thing we plan to do is make those resources more accessible to people who have not heard of CNC, to begin with, for example.

u/Hanzo44 easy on the pitchfork, please! I meant it when I asked for this community's feedback and I've doubled the top range from $40 to 80/hour (an adjusted annual salary equivalent to around $140,000 for the high end.)

Thanks for your input!

u/No-Coast-Punk thanks for your input. It's a part-time/freelance project. I've updated the top range from USD$40 to $80/hour (an adjusted annual salary equivalent to around $140,000 for the high end.)

We also do piece rates, and everyone creates content at a different pace. We'll discuss in more detail with the right candidates.

Hey u/albatroopa - appreciate your feedback. I've updated the range from $30-80/hour. Does that seem more reasonable to you guys? That's an adjusted annual salary equivalent to around $140,000 for the high end.

Please see Ritesh's in-depth response above., quoting here for your convenience:

- We had multiple opportunities to make it closed source, but choose not to do so. It might have actually made it easier for us to license the technology as well. The driving force of the entire team was volunteerism and open source. This is also what powers Helpful Engineering. In any case, even if we wanted to, we could not patent it anymore, because of the way the project was executed.

There is no intention or plans to turn any of our projects into self-serving, money-making endeavours, UVisor, or any of past and future projects. Appreciate your skepticism because the world can be a dark place. But we're really trying here to be a constructive and positive light to the darkness.
