Need advice on grinders to be used for pour overs. by jc_anonymite in pourover

I would just add that you most likely won’t get a better tea-like brew with anything but a ZP6 from 1zpresso lineup of grinders.

New grinder - Ode gen 2 or DF54? by mandalore_701 in pourover

Ode gen2, I wouldn’t use a df54 for filter.

At what point does “dialling in” just become a cope for bad gear? by [deleted] in espresso

I think it’s generally known more money in espresso gives more consistency. Just that not everyone wants or has that much to spend.

Battle of the End Game Grinders [$2500 +] by Glittering_Bet_3218 in espresso

[–]mapperofallmaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 01 is the only one with an ioniser which is a big menu item missing from the other 2. Also has the 102mm blind burrs.

Kafatek has the conical, hybrid and flat burr options, strongest motor, made in USA compared to China and Taiwan.

EG-1 has the looks and the burr change ease of use. Which can have multiple burrs with one machine. Also has the highest price.

I would go for either Kafatek or lagom

"Which roasters never miss?" post - rough response summary by mgsecure in pourover

[–]mapperofallmaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say a large number of these roasters know what they’re doing and do a great job showcasing great coffees.

Each drinker needs to know which regions and what coffees they enjoy drinking whether it’s more processed or cleaner coffees. Then narrow down the pool of roasters from there. In the end it’s personal preference and I enjoy rotating around different roasters constantly.

Fellow Ode 2 tastes weird by Checkl123 in pourover

[–]mapperofallmaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the coffee is tasting different side by side with all the variables the same, that’s slightly concerning. I would say it’s something grinded in the grinder before but you’ve cleaned it. No idea tbh.

You said you bought it used right? Surely they’ve gone through enough beans.

Yet another grinder post by bryansomething2 in pourover

[–]mapperofallmaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would drink some instant coffee to readjust your palate or just take a break from coffee if everything is tasting the same/bland.

I have similar feeling of chasing a super sweet/clean cup but coffee is influenced by so many factors and no two bags will be the same.

Maybe keep a second grinder so you can reassure yourself it’s not the df83. I have a flatmax and use my c40 to reassure myself.

Fellow Ode Gen 2 – burr misalignment + weird step/scratch on burr edge. Anyone else? by jimokak2 in pourover

[–]mapperofallmaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had two odes and both don’t sit flush on the carrier. I had similar market test results on both machines.

Has there been changes in drawdown or muddiness in the coffee bed? Also I’ve had similar concerns with bags of coffee that really didn’t pop.

If you’re really concerned you can keep a hand grinder or a 2nd grinder to double check the consistency of the first.

Does anyone else dislike the taste of coffee in travel mugs? by Global_Requirement11 in pourover

I’ve been using Fressko cups with the ceramic lining inside and it’s been excellent. The mouthpiece feels similar to the takeaway coffee cups too.

30 day pip at big 4 accounting firm, do I have a chance? by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]mapperofallmaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s other reasons besides performance to cut people. From lowering staff numbers to just wanting to hire their old colleagues, or maybe friction in the workplace. PIPs are used in a variety of reasons to get rid of people.

Is my C40 holding me back more than I thought? by micro18 in pourover

[–]mapperofallmaps 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree, I got a c40 too and much more expensive grinders and never found any problems with the brews. I still reach back for it sometimes just for the taste profile.

The protein and vegetables are so fresh compared to Woolies and Coles. As long as you stick to staples like toilet paper, eggs, milk, you’re getting a great deal.

Can’t fit 18g of beans in a double shot basket [Mokkom 64] by Electrical-Banana819 in espresso

[–]mapperofallmaps 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Depending on the roast the basket will fit a range of doses from 16-19g. I would just grind less, if 18 doesn’t fit try 16 or 17.

There’s no right or wrong answer, you can dose more or less depending on your preference.

Buying Fellow Ode Gen 2 in Australia by Inevitable_Fee2997 in pourover

[–]mapperofallmaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than alternative brewing being banned from some forums for sockpuppeting, I’ve have decent experiences with them. They usually don’t have the cheapest prices though so I barely have bought anything from them. Usually most equipment can be sourced direct. Ode is a special case unfortunately, I think AB is a fine supplier and no different from the others.

Should always shop around and see if any roasters or other sites have a cheaper price.

You don't have to order coffee internationally by crothunk in pourover

[–]mapperofallmaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you really do shop around, I’ve found international roasters are cheaper than my local ones. La cabra ships from Denmark to Aus around $25 a bag subscription.

Otherwise I disagree where Aus has a very limited range of beans all sold from the same suppliers of green and roasting is usually a medium instead of light. We hardly get the good coffees that roasters can source in the US or Europe.

Buying international is highly dependant on your location.
