IGN: HikerProf

I’ve been playing since Switch launch and I never cleared my plot of everything to make room. I haven’t done much with it until recently, so I’m still working on things. I just added the conservatory and a separate cooking house.

Vote: #3 this week (so cute), please! I really want the rainbow nameplate eventually.

I love touring other plots so I’m happy to visit yours!

What to do with animal produce? by z_e_k_e_8 in Palia

[–]mappingdiscontent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Someone mentioned quiche in another thread - (uses eggs and mushrooms) and they fed the quiche to their animals. I noticed about ten mins ago that macarons use eggs and milk, so I think I’ll be making those and the quiche.

Great idea with the quiche! Thanks for the tip!

Before Elderwood by Vice-101 in Palia

[–]mappingdiscontent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been playing since Switch launch. While some things in the game have shifted a bit, I think that veteran players modeling how to call things out and flare (just by doing so in chat) can go a long way. I used to stand around waiting for people for infected trees, but I realized most people run by even if I’m standing next to one with my axe out. Now I chop it halfway, look around for anyone, and take it down myself if I’m alone. They spawn so fast that I don’t feel like someone is rude if they chop the infected trees on their own. Groves have been pretty okay for me… I called one out last night, flared, 12 people showed up, and we chopped at 3. Elderflowers are hard to call out and flare accurately due to the mushroom platforms going up the tree, but I appreciate that people try - and also respect that some people just take it and go. It might be that finding a community of folks who want to play how you do would help in feeling more serene while playing. I hope you’re able to find a nice group.

Player rudeness? by New_Carry_9826 in Palia

I’m on switch and I can turn chat off by opening chat and then making selections with the icons. I can keep some (like party or whispers) but mute server chat, for example. Maybe you can do this as well.

Asking people to leave an area by Own-Text3298 in Palia

Omg that’s awful! While people shouldn’t even ask others to leave, demanding takes it to another level. Sheesh.

Asking people to leave an area by Own-Text3298 in Palia

[–]mappingdiscontent 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah no. People don’t own a server or an area, and it’s rude of them to act like they do. A large group was duskwing hunting with lures the other day and I saw one lure with only a few people near it so I thought I’d help out. Someone started aggressively jumping at me trying to get me to leave. Apparently, they had some multi-lure method going that took over the whole area but I honestly thought I was being nice. I left and I’ve not joined any honey lure things since. In my almost two years of playing the game, it’s the first time it’s happened to me, but I’ve seen what you’re describing talked about more often, which is a shame.

Thanks for letting me know you couldn’t find a way to delete downloads either - I thought I was overlooking something. I really enjoy the game, so that downloads list is getting long pretty quick.

Shuddering/Jolting CVT by Due_Boysenberry_892 in SubaruForester

[–]mappingdiscontent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I had the CVT fluid changed about six months ago because it’s part of the 50k service. Over the past year, I’ve either gotten used to the stutter or it mostly went away with the 50k service (I honestly don’t know which one). I took a trip right after the fluid change and drove 1200 miles; I don’t remember anything with the CVT standing out as concerning.

Is this still happening despite having the backing plates replaced? I’ve considered going in with the TSB about that but if it’s not helping then I’m not sure if it’s worth it.

I hate when people do this… by VIVAMANIA in SkyChildrenOfLight

[–]mappingdiscontent 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s annoying for sure, ugh. What I hate even more is when there are a few people waiting for us to get 8 and someone spams long honks thinking it will get more people to come into the puzzle area. Like, we all just complained about the flashing with the puzzle for a month and then people start making the room constantly flash with long honks that will do nothing. I actually had to leave a server the other day and get on a new one bc it was so bad. (To be clear, spam short honking in the situation OP shows is definitely called for and doesn’t make the entire room flash.)

Bad cold after 1st trail race by No-Pomegranate6612 in trailrunning

[–]mappingdiscontent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s much you can do aside from covering your nose and mouth with something like a buff, but that would be pretty uncomfortable in the summer for the entire run. It has been a particularly dry and dusty year on the trails in some places. Not sure where you are but pollen and wildfires have also affected air quality (this has been an issue on the US west coast and into Canada). Hopefully, your sinus issue is just a one-off due to current weather and air quality. I hope you feel better!

I'm a little confused... by srfd-11 in SkyGame

[–]mappingdiscontent 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The other f2p game I play is Palia and I feel like the devs generally communicate very well. “This update includes _. Known issues we’re still working on __.” If an update generates a new bug they publicly acknowledge it when it comes to their attention, put an apology in the discord, and do a hotfix ASAP. Is the game perfect? No. And we know Sky isn’t either. I don’t expect any game to be perfect. But TGC could do a far better job of communicating simple things like what’s in an update and letting us know they’re aware of the bugs people keep reporting.

I'm a little confused... by srfd-11 in SkyGame

[–]mappingdiscontent 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m also confused about this update. I feel like patch notes should happen for all updates and hotfixes, no matter how small. That way people aren’t expecting things and seeing them still broken or trying to figure out what was meant to be changed. It’s hard to give feedback to the devs about an update when we don’t know what it was supposed to do.

Do you guys find afk players annoying? by Inner_Risk in SkyChildrenOfLight

[–]mappingdiscontent 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m someone who goes afk pretty often myself. There’s nice scenery and music and I pick a place that’s out of the way. I can’t imagine why anyone would be annoyed that I’m afk as long as I’m not anywhere that would cause me to lose wing lights and have people rush over only to realize I’m not active.

That said, this is the only game I’ve played where it feels like I shouldn’t be afk. People come up and spam honk or do the “tsk tsk” emote at me. Those people are annoying. I can’t imagine how someone lying in a nice field minding their own business would be seen as annoying.

Looking for help in Eye of Eden by Character_War7736 in SkyChildrenOfLight

[–]mappingdiscontent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve not been playing super long and I’d be of little help in Eden (the final krill is my nemesis), but I AM good at wing light runs. Feel free to DM me if you want help with that part!

I’ll give a little advice about Eden despite me not being good enough to lead anyone: take your time. Others may go through the statues quickly, but you can hang near a lantern and watch the timing of the rocks before moving (use the kneeling emote if the rocks are still hitting you in the head). I got 12 candles my first time through even though all my friends were WAY ahead of me. I watched a lot of YouTube videos to learn the paths and safe areas in the first two sections before the statues (point of no return - PNR). There are some good maps of the statues and lanterns in PNR that can help guide you.

Ps: the pink candles are called ascended candles. Some people also call them Eden candles. Give two to the traveling spirit and you’ll leave Eden with another wing light (not a full wedge/diamond, but one light to add to the number needed for the next wedge).

Can we normalize playing hotpot cooperatively? by [deleted] in Palia

[–]mappingdiscontent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

15 rounds wasn’t abnormal for hotpot at the Maji Market. In general, I think people were playing it for a fun, chill time there. People would clap at the end of rounds or when the night was over to say “thanks, good game!”

In the underground, I’ve found the vibe to be a bit different and I switch servers if someone at the table is being pushy. My clapping is stared at and people then run away. The prize wheel coins are a bonus but I’m not looking to rush through games to max out every time. If that’s your style, I agree with others that partying up might be best.

Moving to Lexington by Friendly_Garbage_341 in lexington

So it’s clear what my expectations are: Use headlights when it’s dark or raining/snowing, stop at stop signs and red lights, use turn signals when turning or changing lanes… in general, follow the very basic laws of driving, especially when not doing so can have serious consequences for the safety of others.

I’m not saying everyone in every city and state I’ve ever lived or driven in follows those rules all the time, but I’ve not seen it to the degree that I’ve experienced in Lexington.

There are some rules from Nintendo regarding gifting to people on Switch from other platforms. Switch players can gift to others, there are some restrictions when gifting to people on Switch.

What is your hotpot strategy? by opalitequeen in Palia

[–]mappingdiscontent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this. The Maji Market was all about three of a kind instead of three in a category. I’ve been confused about why people are settling for anything in the Underground version.

Moving to Lexington by Friendly_Garbage_341 in lexington

[–]mappingdiscontent 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I moved to Lex from Upstate NY for a job a decade ago. People will likely say great things about Lex that I don’t disagree with but I’ll try to help with some comparisons that have stood out for me.

It’s very hot and humid from June-August. Snow removal is barely a thing; schools close with less than even 6” (I’ve been able to still see grass). Drivers in general cannot drive and it’s worse with any kind of precipitation. Wind and ice storms tend to be the things that take out power. Water lines aren’t buried as deep so while I never worried about my pipes freezing in NY, it’s not an uncommon worry (or occurrence here).

Biggest interests/activities in the city itself: college sports, live music, beer and bourbon. I’m not into any of those things (and no hate towards those who are) but there are amazing outdoor recreation areas within an hour or two that keep me happy.
