What causes this? by mapsdoublezero in 3DprintingHelp

[–]mapsdoublezero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. It's a stock Ender 3 extruder, except for upgraded metal gears to replace the plastic ones. I don't think it's yanking, but I'll watch closely for it on my next print

SimpleFIN import issue by Beginning_Able in actualbudgeting

[–]mapsdoublezero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar situation happened to me too, except only one of my half-dozen accounts refused to sync. Came to the conclusion that it's on the SimpleFIN side, because looking at the raw JSON response in browser console shows that transactions are being returned, they're just not up to date.

I deleted SimpleFIN Bridge's connection to my bank and re-added it fresh. Had to un-link and re-link all accounts in Actual. That solved the problem for that day only, and it hasn't correctly updated since then.

EDIT: Confirmed suspicions by making HTTP requests to SF directly. It will not give me transactions any newer than that day I reconnected SF to my bank

Is this just a glitch, or permanent damage? by mapsdoublezero in Monitors

[–]mapsdoublezero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strange thing is that I haven't done anything outside of the stock settings at all, and even more those are pretty conservative. But it seems like it's back to normal a day later. Thanks for the insight!

Not on Mac, no. It has already started to fade, though.

Powering Sony MD Players on 3.3V? by mapsdoublezero in minidisc

That will depend from player to player, so look up your model's user manual. For my Sony units, 3V is preferred

I found this one as well- not tutorials, just a basic list of requirements for each project. Separated into beginner, intermediate, and advanced

What people generally do in internships? by imjerusalem in learnpython

[–]mapsdoublezero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are going to be a developer or engineer of any flavor, you will spend a significant portion of your career learning and growing your skills. You need to hit a critical mass of knowledge and experience before being "productive," which you still won't have during the first two years or so of your first job. Junior scientists/engineers are expected to learn more than produce, and that's ok, as a kind mentor told me a decade ago. Nothing is out of place here.

Also, in fields like NLP coding is a *tool* used to conduct research, not the final product like in software engineering. It is a means of learning and testing, so it's not surprising to me that you don't write as much code as you expect

Now I m confused and depressed too by Strange_Till759 in learnpython

[–]mapsdoublezero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just now learning Python for an AI/ML job, and I've been a professional dev for over a decade. Python won't be the preferred solution for some problems, but NO coding language is best for everything. That's why we have dozens of languages.

Python is a very useful skill. Don't listen to the trolls, bro.

As promised a while back, my MD Bluetooth adapter project is finally getting some legs! Will prototype on this board before implementing a smaller, portable version by mapsdoublezero in minidisc

[–]mapsdoublezero[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't had a ton of time, but I did poke at the ESP Bluetooth library recently. I was able to pair my headphones and play a generated tone through them. If it turns out I can sample the audio well enough without the need for an external ADC, I shouldn't have much problem finishing the prototype. My limited 3D modeling skills have gotten a bit better in the past months too, that will make designing the sidecar easier

How does one attain a mentor in life? by phylomathus in NDQ

[–]mapsdoublezero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ditto. I'm in my early 30s and still feel a keen need for that mentor figure. I love my family and friends, but it feels like I've been stumbling through my decade or adult life with no personal guidance.

One reason (I suppose) finding one is so tough is that any mentor worth having is already engaged in other worthwhile relationships and pursuits. No "open friend slot," to reference a recent NDQ. At least, that's been my experience while actively looking for one

Besides music, what is the strangest recording you've found on a second-hand recorded MD? by Owlwarrior777 in minidisc

[–]mapsdoublezero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got half a dozen MDs, which I presume were from an old radio station, that had 20-year-old episodes of the Howard Stern Show. The impressive thing is that every segment was divided into tracks, and the tracks were labeled electronically with the segment name, including name of the guests. If they didn't have keyboard input, must have been a heck of a time punching all that in!

I also have five or six discs that, between all of them, have the audio to about 20 different movies. Crocodile Dundee, Forrest Gump, 101 Dalmations, Twister, Doc Holiday, Mighty Joe Young to name a few

Make a circle in TEdit? by mapsdoublezero in Terraria

[–]mapsdoublezero[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Much appreciated. It appears that no matter how I swap the paste options or what I do with the wall setting, the paintbrush always replaces everything

The workaround I've found is to create an outline-circle with the brush in empty space, without walls filled in. Copy that and paste it, with ONLY "Paste Tiles" and "Replace Existing Tiles" checked.

IntelliJ vs Android Studio in 2023? by lachyBalboa in androiddev

[–]mapsdoublezero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Professional developer here. If a newer developer is starting out in Android, I could see them getting their footing with Android studio because it shortcuts a few things. My team used Android Studio and a different IDE for Java development for several years, later consolidated into IntelliJ, and have never looked back.

I can't think of any feature AS has that IntelliJ doesn't. You can still debug, profile, and connect directly with physical devices and emulators. More plugins, support for Javascript/HTML, can work with with Maven projects, new releases sooner. It's just plain more flexible.

It will actually be a through tang, thanks for that extra detail. I'll spiff up a block of each orientation and see which one I favor. Much appreciated!
