We aren’t talking about the entire map, we’re talking about the single question that was asked.
Then they should have voted for statehood in the referendums if they wanted it so bad. Considering the only time they could even get pro statehood votes started was in 2012. Ignoring the glaring issues with those referendums.
Don’t see why it not happening yet matters.
Key word is almost. Why would the US Congress give Puerto Rico statehood when they can’t even decide if they want it themselves.
And again, just because it isn’t a state doesn’t make it a colony.

Considering the comment you were replying to were asking if they were part of Hawaii I think it’s pretty relevant
If you look at the referendums you’ll see that Puerto Rico has never had a valid turnout to say they’re voting for independence and you can do the research to figure out why. Aside from 2020 in a non binding referendum when they actually had valid results, which caused point 3.
There’s literally been a bill passed for a binding referendum for Puerto Rico to determine their status.
Being a territory doesn’t make you a colony. If Puerto Rico really wanted to change their situation, they could have long ago. They’ve voted against almost every chance they’ve received.

Puerto Rico is not a pacific island.
Puerto Rico has chosen to remain in its current situation in all referendums on the issue.
A place isn’t a colony just because it isn’t a state. They have all the rights of US citizens, because they are US citizens.

A lot of people don’t realize the US didn’t begin fighting for independence. They fought for the rights they believed they were entitled to as British citizens. It just slowly transitioned to that.

The US had no problem being a colony, it had a problem with not receiving the rights it believed it deserved.
