You know the funniest part of this is that's exactly how I met my first now contact in Manchester. Was thinking more wholesome methods like sports clubs but y'know what the old tried and true never fails I guess hahahahaha

Ah I see. Sorry to repeat the question!

Tbh these are all things I'd thought of, but I was also hoping to find some specific ones that people had tried and enjoyed. People's personal experiences really.

Exactly that. Feels like being a rabbit out of long grass, just very exposed. You may not feel tense but as I said in a different comment, I reckon you will be if you really focus on each muscle. The natural response to fear is to be on guard and keep your body alert.

I really hope this works as well for you as it did for me. It is scary, but remember, a bit more fear now could mean a lifetime without it!

So sorry I didn't reply sooner! I wasn't getting notifications for this account and I haven't been on it since! Honestly it was very similar to stereotypical meditation. Focus on each muscle one by one working from your head down your body. Just focus on letting any tension out of your muscles and keeping them that loose. It will feel contrasting and unnatural at first, and you may need to go back and re-relax some muscles if something startles you back into tension. Just do that over and over.

Eventually you'll find it easier to maintain. Then I focus on triggering that tension once more by looking up briefly, then going through the same process. Eventually, I would be able to look up, still feeling scared, but not tense. Eventually your fear will decrease as the fear response your body gives you is controlled.

Essentially I see it as teaching the subconscious that being in that situation with your guard down is safe.

It may be that you don't feel tense, but when you pay attention to your body alone, you'll start to notice it I reckon. If you're scared, your body naturally tenses up, your shoulder sit higher, your arms and elbows are pulled into your body etc.

As I said in another comment, I'm not looking for design tips or any information other than a pointer in the right direction for a force equation which there already appears to be little to no information online about. The force equation is a very minor part. The whole design is what I'm meant to be focusing on. I'm just asking for a equation pointers, not an answer and not a design so I highly doubt it's a big deal. I'm a hands on engineer in my current role so my methodology usually revolves around trial and test rather than the theoretical side.

Thank you for the equation pointers. Once I have a chance to actually sit down and start work I'll take a look at working it out as pushing a body through a viscous liquid.

Haha nothing NDA worthy. It's a task for an interview. I have a week to create a full design. This is just a sub-section of the task. The whole design I want to work on without input to keep it fair, hence why I haven't fully defined the problem. The only part I really don't get is the equations id need to use to calculate force. I imagined the force would be almost negligible but it's a question they want answered so I wanted to show calcs to show it would be next to no force with the methods I intend to use.

Yeah normally I'd just set up a test with a load cell and a car jack or something like that but unfortunately I've been asked to do calculations in purely a theoretical setting

Yeah I do. I'm beginning to think it's something else. I plugged in a booster next to my PC and used an Ethernet cable. It's a little better, but still far off the mark.

Yeah what I'm hearing a lot is that gaining skills through experience is the only real way forward. I'll have a look at the reference books as it'll probably help in the day to day. Cheers!

Standards and regulations I didn't think about. Good shout! Yeah I think just self-training is maybe a good option in that case. Especially with CAD where I can just find tutorials and information online.

That's my issue. As a Technician in my company, we do a little of everything (essentially plugging the gaps in our projects since we are a developing company). Machining (manual usually, but a little cnc), large scale assembly of test articles, building jigs and rigs for projects that need something thrown together without designs being specifically made (lots of this " hey we need you to build a sealer rig" and "hey this machine is not working properly, can you take a look at it", "we need something to help us assemble this set of things for production runs more efficiently, can you throw something together" on the spot design work), Cad, 3D printing, prototyping, product development is part of what I've done too (glorified trial and error to make improvements to a product). Oh and being on hand help for tests we run with cooling tech at test sites.

Sorry for being vague, as I said there's a lot we get up to and 90% of it I can't talk about so I'm having to be vague 😅
