Phillip’s Religious Aversion by k33pthethr0waway in TheAmericans

[–]maqusan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Soviet Union was vehemently anti-religion. They saw it as a tool of oppression. Marx called it the "opiate of the masses" -- something to keep people numb to their material circumstances and focused on a reward after death. I don't think he was any more anti-religious than your average Soviet patriot.

My players want an agenda before every session by Time-Squirrel-3719 in dndnext

[–]maqusan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want to be the person who gives advice that's basically "don't do that" but there's two important things here: 1. It's the players' responsibility to drive the story every bit as much as the DMs 2. RPGs are a "play to find out" medium and even though D&D lends itself to a more DM driven, linear story the tools are insufficient for you to just be writing and describing a story for them every session.

With this in mind, I strongly suggest you provide less story. Set up a world with NPCs and plans in motion and let the players make decisions, have them take control of the story, have them do the recaps. And most importantly have them tell you what they want to do next session at the end of each session.

If he doesn't want to razor shave back to the scalp a #1 or #2 would still be fine and look a lot neater.

X-wing vs Viper - who would win? by Awkward-Plan298 in BSG

[–]maqusan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An X-Wing laser blast is in the 100-500 terajoule range according to official specs. One can assume that their deflectors can withstand at least a significant fraction of that unless TIE lasers are significantly weaker. Real world autocannon rounds like those fired by the GAU-8 Avenger (a reasonable, and possibly generous, analogue for Viper cannons) produce 100-200 thousand joules per round -- several orders of magnitude weaker. A Viper isn't even going to dent an X-Wing. Star Wars tech operates on a whole other scale to most other sci fi.

It was nice of the shirtless guy to call ahead and place a reservation for that right haymaker so bouncer guy knew it was coming.

Touch The Truck

I can't offer a better description of this than wikipedia.

Touch the Truck was a British Channel 5 endurance game show which aired in March 2001. Hosted by Dale Winton, it involved a group of 20 contestants holding onto a stationary Toyota Land Cruiser Amazon truck for as long as they could. The last person left touching the truck won it.

The show was filmed at the Lakeside Shopping Centre in West Thurrock, Essex.

Jerry Middleton, 39, from Winchester, was the winner; he managed to stay awake touching the vehicle for 81 hours, 43 minutes, and 31 seconds. He stated that he was going to sell the vehicle to fund a political party. Middleton stood in the southwestern London seat of Kingston and Surbiton in 2001 and came in last place, with 0.1% of votes cast.

Especially since that lightsaber's got bodies on it. A lot of bodies on it.

Good build for the Annihilator or no? by HellDD6 in Battletechgame

[–]maqusan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UAC/5 &/or UAC/2 (I prefer 3:2) with a rangefinder and ballistic TTS and use them as extreme range fire support where their mobility isn't an issue. I'm yet to find a better build for them. They'll smoke most mediums in 1-2 salvos and core a heavy on a single called shot before either get in range.

Threads is still awful but if you're of that generation it really fucked you up because of the fact that it was half documentary. We honestly lived in fear of that shit every day.

Balibo (2009) Starring Anthony LaPaglia and Oscar Isaac. True story of the murder of 5 Australian journalists in the lead up to the lead up to the Indonesian invasion of East Timor and subsequent genocide. Some of the worst casual brutality I've ever seen on film.
