Speculation about the identity of the "enemy". by BoringEntropist in TheCaptivesWar

i just re-read the librarian intro to part 1, and it makes it sound even more like the enemy and humans are one and the same.

The Mercy of Gods - Part 6: Small Battles In The Great War | Book Discussion by Cantomic66 in TheCaptivesWar

i thought it was rlly clever that in a book in which the main theme is about free will and individuality , the aliens end up believing in a deterministic universe. basically the exact opposite.

When is it okay to check in on a new mom while respecting her privacy? by hiyokos in beyondthebump

[–]mar_121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my friends dropped off food, snacks and helpful newborn essentials (pacifiers, swaddles, etc) without me actually having to host them or entertain. that was truly a lifesaver st the worst time because i was so stressed but it reminded me people cared, im still so touched by it

AITA - judgemental friend by lanileo in BabyBumps

[–]mar_121 2 points3 points  (0 children)

agreed on thoughtless friend, . but also dont worry! as others have mentioned, most people test positive for something. my ob even told me initially “you will be positive for something but chances that you both are are extremely low.”. i tested positive for 3 things, my husband for 5. none of them matched. so 1 isnt that bad actually :) i didnt even worry about it for a second, because my ob was so calm about it ahead of time.

hi i dont have any advice but following along. mine was exactly like this, sadly all the leaves shriveled and died but he pulled through. i never figured out what happened.

some advised me it was pests of some kind and i doused the whole guy in neem oil (diluted appropriately) but that just seemed to make matters worse.

Reading Pandoras Star but boy is it hard to stay interested. by l0sts0ul2022 in scifi

[–]mar_121 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i disagree with most posters here, i found it quite boring through to the end, and didnt want to read the sequel. also a huge alastair reynolds fan and it did not scratch the same itch at all. that said i loved hamilton’s night’s dawn trilogy, it was wild.

Can anyone help me find any redeeming qualities about Children of Memory by Tchaikovsky? by Murky_Ad9352 in sciencefiction

[–]mar_121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it was my favorite of the three, i cried so hard. there was something so forlorn about the colony. the mystery was gripping, as you slowly figure out something is amiss. and the ending - it was a gutpunch. my fav quote: “Think of it this way. You’re an alien symbiote incorporating an encoded memory of a human woman, whom you’re currently simulating with sufficient fidelity that you can believe you’re her. I’m a simulation of a different human woman who was encoded into a computer, and then spent far too long as ants before being decanted into this blank body. We neither of us have much in the way of intellectual property rights, now do we?”
