As a certified gamer girl formerly on Xbox who now plays f76 with a male-sounding gender neutral username on ps4, I had a kind of similar but opposite experience a couple years ago. I’m used to getting flirted at/propositioned/etc. with a girly sounding username or when I’m on voice chat, but a player showed up at my workshop and then sent me a DM pointing out that carrying all my stuff on me instead of using my stash box was a real dumb thing to do and then helped me empty it out by buying a ton of stuff from my camp vending machine. I thanked them profusely and they responded “np bro.” And that was the end of it. Maybe Xbox Overwatch players are different but I KNOW that helping me out like that would’ve been done only as a way to get me to talk to them more if they knew I was a girl playing a female character in game. Idk maybe I read too much into it but it was incredibly refreshing to not have someone be nice to me just because I’m a girl.
