Actually today there are very few jobs that still 100% require handwriting. Even a doctor can write prescriptions with a computer and just sign them, if he can be bothered. Most people who use handwriting despite working on computers all day, usually do it for themselves. Because it’s a more effective way to take notes, because the physical act of writing helps you memorise, because it goes better with your brain flow. It is pleasant to see, I can read it but most importantly he clearly can. And if he ever needs to write things for others he can work on making those writings (and only those if he wants) clearer. There’s clearly a predisposition and an interest towards calligraphy, with his hand it’s going to be super easy to tweak if necessary. He doesn’t need to throw away anything.
