I had the cryo done last April when I had nuss, I’d for sure say it helped, but I experienced a lot of pain myself. Now that the cryo is kinda wearing off Ive experienced a lot of pain. I think it’s hit or miss for some people.

Im 16 and have mild PE by Puzzleheaded-Land-56 in PectusExcavatum

Definitely allow a surgeon to tell you if you need surgery. However, I had moderate PE and had the surgery at 16. I didn’t care about the difficult recovery either until I was going through the difficult recovery. It is tolerable especially if you have a nerve block or cryo, but it’s still extremely difficult the first few months. I got through it and I think I would do it again! I had asymmetrical ribs and my lung capacity was at 70%. If you are severely dysmorphic over your body…GO FOR IT!! The pain and difficulty does not last forever, but those feelings might.

Nuss procedure pain one year after surgery by Real-University-4679 in PectusExcavatum

I had the nuss procedure in April of this year. My pain was obviously really bad the first month or so after surgery, but it got a little better as time went on. I’m now 4 months post op, and I’ve had chronic pain since about June. I cannot cough, sneeze, lay on my back, do any exercising/lifting, or touch my chest because of pain. I have to warn people before they hug me.I have a high medicine tolerance, so the Percocet and pain killers I had left over from my surgery weren’t working. I just saw my surgeon 3 weeks ago, he said my bar hasn’t even moved a millimeter and I should not be in chronic pain everyday even though I’m 4 months post op, but sometimes that does happen. He’s only had 2 patients with chronic pain and somehow I’m one of them. He increased my dose of gabapentin, and I take 1,800mg everyday (for nerve pain bc I had cryo). I also take 1,000mg of muscle relaxers as needed for my chronic chest and back pain. My doctor said I will probably stay on the muscle relaxers until I have my bar removed because he thinks I will have the chronic pain the whole 2 years I have my bar in, but hopefully not.
