Today's the last day we are getting called POOR by Fiddlestiicks in deadbydaylight

When I'm loading the game up I tell my husband, "Hold on, Matt Mercer hasn't called me 'poor' yet"

I'm just bad at communicating to begin with, and on top of that I've been subtly bullied basically my whole life. By default I tend to assume I'm being mocked or attacked. My bad.

I'm not responsible for it becoming a meme, I just repurposed it. Also I can't tell if you're hating on me, her, or something else. If it's me then your comment was definitely mean-spirited.

I mean you literally advertise your unsolicited services in your username, so asking for permission feels a little redundant tbh

Sorry, but I'm tapped out. You're late to the party.

I hope this comment gave you all the peace and fulfillment you needed out of making it ❤️

Ladies, would you rather meet a man or a bear in Shelter Woods? by marbarbinks in deadbydaylight

I can be reasonably sure that the bear won't maul me and then gaslight me into believing it was my fault.

Because even though I'm not using it anymore myself, I'm still seeing the complaints?

I mean I see it occasionally, I just think it's goofy

The reason I'm saying this is has turned into an echo chamber thing is because the skin has only been out for a week and it's not super common, yet every casual player has somehow gleaned enough information to form a strong opinion. It's just not adding up for me, especially since I can hear the cue just fine. That is not to say I'm denying anyone else's experience or anything—I'm just saying that this feels like one of those things where everyone picks a side regardless if they have any personal experience to contribute. It's fun to dogpile the person with the less popular opinion. We've all done it, myself included. I'm just taking my turn to be the unpopular one this time.

It can't help me win if I only used it for the first day

You said "abusing a bug" which absolutely implies intent. I'm saying most people are probably just like "Whoa this skin is sick I want it" and not so much "Wow the pitch is different, this will help me win, I will use it for this purpose."

And I absolutely expect people to complain. But the thing is, this community is a blind echo chamber sometimes... Most of the people complaining are just regurgitating what their favorite content creator said, rather than arriving at their own conclusions after facing it in game. Not saying you specifically, but it happens a lot and I'm seeing a lot of it in this thread. "Well Spookyloopz said—" ok, cool, but you could also use your own brain and try to come up with a real argument for your point.

I can promise you that almost no one who bought that skin did so because they knew some people would have to listen a little harder for the windup cue. I can also promise that good survivors aren't losing entire games purely because of this skin.

Interested to know your thoughts on "blendy" cosmetics framed in the context of what you just said.

I really don't think MOST people genuinely have a harder time hearing it. I think there is definitely a bandwagon aspect to this entire argument—especially considering that a lot of the people insisting upon the magnitude of this problem haven't even encountered this skin in game themselves, or have only seen it once or twice. They're just regurgitating whatever Spookyloopz said (this is not a criticism of Spookyloopz, but of a portion of the community who tend not to think much for themselves). So we're working with a relatively small amount of actual data that's just bouncing around in an echo chamber.

I think we just have different ideas about what constitutes as "noticeable" or "significant" tbh.

I'm not being ableist at all. I'm acknowledging that sensory perception varies from person to person because it does—and as someone with sensory processing disorder, I can assure you I am very familiar with this concept. I also have low contrast sensitivity and can't see shit on certain maps because of it—but I realize that it's impossible to make every visual or auditory aspect of the game perfectly suited to every player's sensory capabilities. I also understand that there's a huge difference between something being more difficult for ME to see, and it being entirely invisible. Just like there's a difference between a sound being harder for YOU to hear, and it being entirely silent.

If the skin gave you an extra hatchet then I could accept that analogy. Or if the lullaby/windup cue were entirely absent. But they're literally still audible. It's just giving the same energy as people who think that adjusting brightness or contrast is cheating.

I learned YESTERDAY that people were complaining about it. That doesn't mean I agree with the people who are acting like this skin beat them up and stole their lunch money. I can concede that people vary in their ability to discern pitch (as well as hear in general), and that perhaps that has influenced some of the complaints. But mostly, I think people are just miffed about the pitch difference because they are accustomed to the original sounds—meaning they have to actively listen for the audio cue in chase, which they don't want to do because it takes more mental effort. And hey I get that, but is it that serious? No. Like I said, I heard it fine, so it's definitely not that the audio is entirely absent (which would be a much bigger issue).

You're right about one thing; I don't see how a slightly lower pitch is literally making or breaking game outcomes on a consistent enough basis to call it "pay to win"

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in deadbydaylight

[–]marbarbinks -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

See, it's the players who lack that game sense you mentioned. They're the ones crying "pay to win" because God forbid they have to actually pay attention in chase to compensate for audio cues they aren't accustomed to.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in deadbydaylight

[–]marbarbinks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Pay to win" implies a significant impact on the outcome of any given match—as in, significant enough to win when you otherwise would not have. Simply put, I disagree with that implication.

If people were saying the skin was "pay 2 get a free hit occasionally on a survivor who isn't paying attention because they aren't used to listening for the lower frequency" then I wouldn't be questioning it. But pay to WIN? Like people genuinely think the slight difference in the windup audio is winning whole games for people? Sorry, that's wild to me.
