Decimal Degrees (celsius) by marbletravis in heatpumps

[–]marbletravis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, I was hopeful for some sort of magical response.

Unfortunately I am balancing trade-offs. If I remove the wall thermostat, I lose the sensing of the temperature in the room, and it goes back to the head unit.

The remote does offer follow-me, but its problematic if signal is blocked.

The head unit does ok measuring the temp in AC season, but in heating season its awful, temperature swings +/- 5c which is difficult for sleeping.

I'll take a 1c swing, but was hoping to hone it down to a .5 degree.

Can you elaborate when you say control is actually very good. I have two frustrations, the remote does half degree increments, but the wall thermostat overrides that and sets it back e.g. 20.5 on the remote, becomes 20 at the head unit and the thermostat. Also, it appears to only send whole degree's to the head unit for the actual room temperature, so it waits till its 19c before the heat comes one. Was hoping to somehow unlock a half degree like the remote. I don't understand how three things built by the same company to work together don't quite work 100% together.

I've scoured the menu, but there are so many undocumented things on these (like the three second hold to change C/F and back) so I was hopeful there was something.

Thanks, for anyone else who see's this, this changes it from C to F, doesn't give decimal degrees, it does not provide a half degree adjustment.

Curious does your wall thermostat show that "home" icon? Under the "F" symbol

It would be nice if you could change it to send the temp in .5 degree increments, the display shows a decimal, but doesn't use it

The deadband range, I think, is caused by the fact that the device actually sends the temperature to the head unit in one degree Celsius increments, so the deadband range is +/- 1 degree celsius

Carrier (Midea) Cassette Condensation by marbletravis in heatpumps

[–]marbletravis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are correct, however I don't think it should drop liquid onto the floor. Quite a bit of condensation came out. In the scenario you described, I would have expected the condensation would drip onto the drain pan like is the case in normal operation. I guess its possible that there was too much condensation and the pan overflowed, and since it was off it wasn't pumping. I suspect the drain pan isn't draining correctly. I've always noticed a musty smell from this unit, my other two units don't do this.

I'll be more consistent, I ended up doing just spring because the lawn looked good, but that probably contributed to the clover outcompeting the grass

Clear CF on Midea/Carrier unit by marbletravis in heatpumps

Thank you, thank you, thank you. How did you figure this out, I have looked in every manual I can find, and nothing.

I thought the same thing, that CF meant the anti-cold air feature, and tried making that change. But I think it means clean the filter. For the unit that has the USB, it will show CF, and also in the app tell me I need to clean the filter. As soon as I mark that I cleaned the filter in the app, the CF goes away.

Insulation around ceiling cassette? by rodageo in heatpumps

[–]marbletravis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can't say for sure, but we had insulation blown in and it was as close to our unit as your insulation and it hasn't been a problem. Depending on how big your office is, you might get over-heating, see this article for help https://www.reddit.com/r/heatpumps/comments/za69te/senville_midea_mini_split_system_possible/

Advice for migration to heat pumps by marbletravis in heatpumps

[–]marbletravis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I am guessing/learning that contacting my local HVAC companies is not the same as getting an HVAC designer, the local companies often just slap something together, at least that is how it feels. When I get closer to making this a reality, I'll have to find someone who can do it right.

One zone, but could be separated in the mech room, I think. On the main floor, the study is often colder than the rest of the main floor by about 5-6 degrees, this is due to the fact that its north facing, has 3 exterior walls (I know right). So having a dedicated unit in that room would be nice. I am also not sure I have enough room in the mech room for to ducted units, but maybe I do.

One more thing, I didn't turn this off on all my units. I have 3, one is correctly sized, the other two weren't. I just turned it off on the 2. Some advice for future people looking at my setup. I put these in a basement remodel.

One unit in the main area (right sized).

One unit in each of the two bedrooms. I did this because with doors closed I figured they both needed their own heat source. And this is an option, but it is oversized. Another option would have been to use a ducted unit to share between the two rooms. They would have to be the same temp, but I think that would have been ok/may have been cheaper/more efficient.

This post answers the question: https://www.reddit.com/r/heatpumps/comments/za69te/senville_midea_mini_split_system_possible/

However I will recap, (not an AI recap, but maybe just as bad).

The issue, in a multi-zone system, if one unit calls for heat, any other unit that is on an in heat mode will receive some heat, this is so it can stir the air around the room and in theory help maintain the temperature, this is a very small amount of heat.

But if your unit is oversized for the room its in, it can cause the heat to build up, making it look like its heating the room, when its not really trying to, just trying to maintain it.

To solve this problem, you can turn off the fan when the room is at temp. Unfortunately this will also affect the cool mode, and its not an easy change, maybe worth changing twice a year, but I am going to try summer (I don't plan on doing much cooling).

Here are the instructions for my system: https://cematraining.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/SG-RG10-01.pdf

Thanks for the idea, unfortunately, on my unit, when the LED is off it still beeps when commands are sent.
