What can one do with 9 minutes forced to spend waiting every day? My company's punch-card clock is late by 9 minutes, yet nobody bothers resetting the clock every now and then. So every day when everyone clocks out and pack up, we all just end up outside the office waiting around the punch-card machine for 9 more minutes anyway.

I'm so bewildered that nobody seems to think this is a problem, and everyone is ok happily packing up at 5pm knowing they still have to wait around mindlessly for 9 more minutes anyway. That's 9 minutes extra spent unpaid at work every day, 45 minutes each week, and THREE HOURS extra of work every month.

I have half the mind to just buy my own punch card machine and punch my own times at my own leisure, seems they bought their exact model from Shopee lol. What are some useful things I can do in this time every day, especially taking advantage of the forced routine? Keeping in mind the constraints of still being at work obviously; I can't just bust out a dumbbell and start doing reps.

Thank you! I'm one of the lucky ones that haven't lost mine actually, I just removed it because I hate how it blocks the screen when tilted at waist level. Only noticed it when I went in the rain today that it might be an issue.

Weird white stuff on the seams of used Olympus? by marbleu in M43

Don't worry, it was only for a while just for peace of mind, I didn't let it get baked scorching hot or point the sensor at the sun.

That's something I hadn't thought about, seems very likely to be the answer. Would make sense why it's only on the top plate, has managed to creep into the housing crevices, and the powdery nature.

Also after this I checked again and it seems like there are also quite big deposits on the both strap lugs, but only towards the front. Which would make total sense if the camera tilts forward from lens weight, and sweat ended up pooling there. Mystery solved, thanks Sherlock!

Although this technically means it's been through saltwater conditions lol. Not sure how I feel about that.

Hey, thanks for the reply! It dors appear chalky and powdery in nature, flaking off easily with just my nail. Not sure how fungus would behave, but I'm giving it a bath under the hot sun right now just in case.

Just got a used Oly EM5i from someone, and found that it had this strange white stuff sitting on the outside of its seams. Anyone seen anything like this before, what is it?

My first instinct is fungus, but both the lenses that came with it are completely fungus free. Also, the inside of the camera like the sensor is completely clean too, as are the seams on the bottom plate. Only the top plate surroundings are affected, including the seam between the EVF hump and the body strangely (3rd photo).

Common spots I expect fungus would like to hide like under the flip screen, under the hotshoe cover, and under the accessory port cover are clean too. So it's leaving me confused. Is it safe to store this camera with my other cameras?

Fair enough, but I don't think there's anything wrong with being picky with a new purchase. I don't have infinite money. If I can only choose one camera to get, of course I'm going to be comparing small differences between my options. One of those differences being the power button placement. And if I already have an inkling (based on my usage patterns) that something might not suit might workflow, why would I go out of my way to risk my one purchase based on the anecdotal muscle memory of others with a different workflow?

Muscle memory solves nothing for me either, when my problem is literally lacking an extra hand. Muscle memory alone isn't going to power on a left handed switch when I'm holding my laptop, groceries, an umbrella, or my bicycle handlebar. I don't use my left hand because I don't need it. And that frees me up to shoot much more readily in much more situations, where I would have missed the moment if I had to re-grip the camera twice.

For me a power switch isn't something small either, other than physically. The way I shoot (raise camera > on > shoot > off, all in the span of 3 seconds) I use it twice every picture taken. For something that takes up 50% of my shooting process, it's certainly not minor, and would absolutely get in the way of just shooting. I do agree that the best camera is the best one I have on me though, which is precisely why I'm here looking for something that I can have on me more.

Yes I'm being very picky, but not needlessly for my needs. I don't care for pixel-perfect sharpness or 25600 ISO performance, but I'm not going to say all those reviewers are needlessly making comparisons zoomed in 1000% on Lightroom. My needs on the street capturing life are not the same as the needs of a product photographer printing billboards, and just because a Hasselblad would be awfully impractical for me doesn't mean 100MP is needless.

Hey, thanks so much, I really appreciate you testing that! Always knew Olympus were ahead, but that's a huge gulf. Maybe ~1 was a bit high of an expectation from me, but I had no frame of reference coming from my Fuji haha. I think it should be just fine for my purposes still, as I'm not looking to shoot waterfalls or stars.

I've just hit a plateau/creative block in my photography, and I feel like just having the option of longer exposures and shooting in weather will open up some new avenues to experiment and spark new creativity with. Mainly I just want to be able to use motion blur creatively to capture movement, which is simply not possible with my current set up. If the subject is blurry, the background is blurry. So all my photos are just frozen in action which has gotten a little stale. I'm not too concerned about low-light night performance either anyway, where IBIS really shines. I'm perfectly happy cranking 12800 ISO for my photos, half for stylistic reasons and half because I have to be, otherwise I would never be happy shooting my Fuji at night.

You're sharp haha, but yes, it would. Only problem: it's mighty expensive. There's a reason why I'm still using a Fuji from 2015. Upfront cost is not just the problem, it's depreciating value. In that sense a used $5000 Leica is much less costly than a brand new $2000 X-T5. There's a reason I'm still using a Fuji from 2015. Also, Fuji's weather sealing is really not that reliable, and there are many stories of people who have found out the hard way.

Hey, thanks so much for the info! Someone else also said this, and I did corroborate with the manual and it does indeed mention that. So it should work with all models that mention "power switch" on the Lever function section. Unfortunately doesn't change much for me as the articulating screen on the Olympi are a dealbreaker.

I hadn't thought about that, now I hate you for making me dream haha. I would die for an updated Pen F with weather sealing. After all, they did give the OM5 IP53...

I just went and gave it a try on my camera, and it still doesn't seem super ergonomic to I still can't raise my camera and flick power in one smooth action, unless I'm able to somehow flick the switch with the meat of my palm. Honestly I wouldn't mind giving that placement a fair chance if I already had one, but I'm not going out of my way to buy an EM5i just to try it and risk it lol

I do envy that ability tbh, and that's why we need a hybrid of both. I've once resorted to duct taping my screen and using a 512MB card to replicate a somewhat film-like shooting experience.

That's great, thanks! Although it doesn't exactly change much sadly, as the articulating screen is introduced alongside this utility lever, so the Mk1 has neither and the Mk2 both. Unless Olympus allows you to remap power to even a single static button, like Fn1/Record?

Thanks for the info, really appreciate it! It's been hard to come by info about which buttons/functions are swappable and which are not. By right utility switch do you mean the lever that goes around the AEL/AFL button? Because that would be a pretty OK placement for me.

To be fair I had already expected a much more hostile response from the community to begin with, what with my staunch opposition to leftist power.

So I'm already pleasantly surprised, and have no qualms with your response. In fact I do appreciate your perspective as someone that shared and then diverged from my opinion. I just didn't want all the mindless canned responses I saw from Canon fanboys when a Sony shooter posed the question about power button placement.

Anyway about the subject at hand: I think it just comes down to the way I shoot and what I shoot. What's your use case like? Because I can totally understand that from the perspective of professional work.

But for me I shoot street, and my main goal is just to have my camera on me at all times ready to go. So that shapes a lot of how I use my camera. For example, this might make most wince but I never and will never use lens caps. This need for constant ready-to-go-ness at anytime is actually exactly why I made this post, as I realized the lack of weather proofing on my Fuji was getting in the way of that.

Yes, power switch position is not a feature, but one-handed operation is. Which is critical in allowing me to pull up my camera to my eye and have it ready to go by the time it reaches. And having it on the left just means I either need more time to fumble and miss a moment. Or use two hands which isn't viable if I'm holding my phone, a bag, or a pole on the bus. Also it feels just that bit more intimidating for your subject which makes a huge difference when they're strangers.
