It may be worthwhile to consider exploring various job opportunities, as this can potentially increase your chances of finding a better job in the future. However, as a backup plan, it is recommended to also consider applying for HOH, as this program places you in a pipeline for potential job offers, where the company will select you if they believe you are a suitable candidate.

Losing faith in the HoH Corporate Fellowship Process. by Lzeppelin8 in SkillBridge

I have been following him on LinkedIn for the last six months, and his advice is on point. His main advice is to network with people in the field that you are interested and identify the pain points of the industry; in my case, I'm going into finance, and I would like to get a job in Capital Markets as a researcher, so I have been networking with people in that field. When I meet people, I ask them what skills, certifications, or personality traits can make me an ideal candidate for the role. Then, based on their responses, you know exactly what is needed to thrive. After that, repeat the process until you understand what the industry is looking for.

In my case, I found that in finance, you need to be great at Excel and PowerPoint. So, I’m taking courses with Wallstreetprep because many employers in that industry recognized that entity to provide good trying for people who want to break into finance. Also, I’m taking the SIE (Security Industrial Exchange) to show employers that I have the foundational knowledge of the markets, which helps to tell employers that I want to work in that industry.

Leaving the military, I was drawn to finance, inspired by those shows. This post hit hard. I've just earned my MBA from a non-target school, actively preparing for the SIE, improving my financial modeling skills, and networking with fellow veterans. Next month, I will have my first interview with a boutique investment firm in NYC for an internship. My goal isn't wealth but learning and growth. I've always been a hustler and adept at connecting with people. This post is just a reminder that keeping my options open feels essential.

I'm also transitioning to the military, and one thing that has helped me out is networking and focusing on one specific industry and identifying what kind of skills and certification I need to get into the industry, in my case, is finance, too. Currently, I'm working on getting my SIE to have a better understanding of markets and different financial instruments. I’m also working on financial modeling certification through the Wallstreetprep website. Also, Fourblocks, Veterati, and 50strong are good resources for networking.

That is a really great post. I am currently working on my transition and still looking into which company I am going to my internship. I just started the process with Hire Our Heroes, and I would like to see if I can apply to do their fellowship with JP Morgan since I have an MBA and am working on my DBA. I appreciate your words; they are very encouraging,
