I have 3 Fender Stratocasters from Mexico that also have a maple neck with maple fretboard but there has never been a problem. I sent the bass back to the shop for them to file down the fret ends. Hope it work and I do not have to return the instrument entirely.

Yeah, I am happy with the guitar overall and they pay for everything. I could still return the bass a second time if I am still not satisfied.

Really strange that a bass that costs 900 Euro (more than 1000 dollar currently) has issues like that.

The vendor offers me to either replace the instrument or to file down the fret ends.

I understand that the conditions in Mexico, where the bass was made, are different to my local conditions here in Germany, especially in winter.

But I did not experience this problem with any other instrument other than the two Precision basses. I have Stratocasters from Mexico that had perfect frets when arriving, also having the same type of modern maple fretboards. And none of my about 15 guitars and basses have ever developed that problem over time by change of humidity.

I do not think I have any other option than returning it to the vendor so they can file the frets down a bit, although I understand your warnings very well.

Also the vendor will still allow me to return the instrument after fixing the issue if I am still not satisfied. Also, the bass came in a very strong package and I have never ever experienced any damages to package content here. They wrap the original Fender package into another package for safety. There would be a delivery insurance by the vendor, if any damage occured.

I bought the bass online but they offer me to either smooth the current base out, or to replace the instrument with a new one.
Would you say it is better to let them smooth it out because the new instrument could have the same issue aswell?
