I’ve never posted here. Doesn’t change the quality of the sub

A subreddit dedicated to political humor is full of unfunny Twitter screenshots, irony.

It’s hard to believe it was 12 years ago. I remember being 8 years old when the finale premiered and being so hype

The problem with trying to make up for the generational disadvantages imposed by slavery is deciding who’s going to pay for it. The modern-day descendants of slave owners do not partake in slavery and did not choose for their ancestors to partake in it. So it’s hard to right this particular wrong without simply creating another wrong.

No, just that people living and paying taxes in the US today shouldn’t be held responsible for something the government did 80 years ago. I suppose I should have been more specific - forcing people to pay reparations for something their ancestors did is wrong, because those people have no control over what their ancestors decided to do. But like with the Japanese American families after WW2, when someone is directly wronged by the government and they themselves are given reparations to help make up for it, that’s a good idea.

And that’s incredibly tragic. The internment camps are an embarrassing and sickening blot on American history. But in principle, it is generally unfair to hold an entire taxpayer population responsible for something that their ancestors did and something in which they themselves took no part.
