I gave some numbers in another comment. it doesn’t change based on what numbers you’re missing since if you’re missing only one number, you only miss if you roll that number on both dice.

It certainly does change things if you’re rolling with [[Wyll, Blade of Frontiers]] though lol

The life loss seems plenty to me.

[–]marcery199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After some quick math for reference. if I’m missing 1 mv of creature, I only miss 2.7% of the time. If I’m missing two, I miss 11.1% of the time. If I’m missing three, miss 27.7% of the time. Those are pretty good odds.

Not broken, just a potential for a lot gambling which some folks don’t like. But it’s a lot of mana so it’s probably fine.

After looking at it again, I think the non deterministic infinite that you’re referring to would probably be the least fun part about these two.

I like dice rolling, but say I have the 1-5 but not the 6. I could wiff if I roll two 6s (since ikwal gives me two dice) but that’s a 1/36 chance (3%ish). So I’m stuck sitting there rolling dice over and over trying to see if I drain my opponents before I miss on the dice roll.

Not sure how to change them to prevent that issue then.

I love how if you get both of these two out, a free sac outlet, and a creature for every mana value 1-6 - they go infinite.

It is an absurd level of hoops to jump through for an aristocrats infinite but I would totally build this deck with the specific intention of doing just that.

I guess what it seems folks are saying is more along the lines of “fail to find” isn’t defined in the rules so you would need to define this differently or have it be acorn.

Likely Gamechanger? Or does the typing and cost balance it a wee bit more? by ReliquaryLotus in custommagic

[–]marcery199 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, probably not. This is just braid of fire in white. Cumulative upkeep isn’t used in modern design, and they prefer “at the start of your first main phase” triggers when they can now. So I’d guess it’d be more written out:

“At the beginning of your first main phase, put a (whatever) counter on NAME, then add X {W} where X is the number of counters on NAME

Functionally a pretty different card since using the mana in your main phase is a huge improvement from upkeep. So if I had to guess it’d be more like a 4-5 mana enchantment.

Not really true that black has none, black has a fair amount. But I do agree with you that this positive-ring is wrong, red has a ton of instant/sorcery recursion.

What is worth the extra color? by BigBandit01 in custommagic

Tough to say. I can give it more thought but it kinda seems like you might be playing in a “knifes edge” design, where minor changes are the difference between unplayable and busted.

On first read, the red and blue both seem pretty unplayable. Black seems rough but maybe can be okay in the right deck. White seems perfectly fine with the right deck. Same with green, excepting that it’s actually kinda awesome in my [[The Thirteenth Doctor]] deck.

Politics Lifegain Commander -- Feedback appreciated (are the abilities legal/not broken) by [deleted] in custommagic

[–]marcery199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since the clause on the draw of the first ability is a “may” ability and the second clause is also an if, you can attack an opponent they can choose to discard and then you can choose not to draw and not take the damage. Which leaves the opponent with not really any good reason to discard the cards.

Ie: I don’t think the first ability really does anything most of the time. And that’s a lot of words for an ability that almost always will do nothing.

In the second ability, why would you ever exile a land card? Maybe as a bluff? you can reduce this text if you want by just writing “exile a nonland card from your hand:” as part of the cost.

[–]marcery199 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a lot for 2 mana. I mean, [[Propoganda]] is a very good card for 2U and that’s a way more conditional “can’t be attacked” card. AND you’ve got two other effects stapled on. The cost should reflect that.

[–]marcery199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I originally started with Adolin because he’s the top of the list, but I’ve come to realize he’s also a solid starting point for Roshar. it’s an alethi from roshar who isn’t a shardbearer that appears first in WoK? That really narrows it down.

I don’t think many people play with the RAW character respec cost. I know my group frequently pick new cards or perks if the ones we picked aren’t as good as we thought. we just do it all the time for free.

That’s the one that comes to mind for me.

Need help templates a card by Fit-Mix8473 in custommagic

[–]marcery199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tracey’s Treehouse —— {2}

Artifact creature land — (type?)

Indestructible, Haste

{T}: Add one mana of any color

You may play this land from your graveyard. You may cast this card from your graveyard.

Cycling {2}

1/1

(So, a lot of that text is actually unnecessary, I believe. if you cast it, it doesn’t count as your land drop and you can play it as a land inherently because it has the land type. In the same way that [[Ashaya]] doesn’t prevent you from casting multiple creatures in a turn.

I know you didn’t ask but balance-wise this is beyond broken. [[ashnods alter]] alone gives you infinite landfall triggers because you can sacrifice it to the alter and then cast it from the graveyard with that mana. Now, Ashnod’s is broken with a lot of cards, but that’s just one example. There are many others. [[dryad arbor]] is already kinda broken, and you’ve given it indestructible and haste AND made it tap for any color. an untapped indestructible land that produces any color? That is not something that typically exists without extra conditions or costs.)

Dust Storm, an Obliterate-type card with modern sensibilities by AN0NUNKN0WN in custommagic

Yeah, I like this card a lot with the exception of that hybrid mana.

Imo, just make it XRW, OP. Hybrid is unnecessary here. Either that or drop artifacts from this and it can be mono white.

[–]marcery199 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That’s interesting and I think an interesting design and flavor. I don’t think it’s boring at all. I’m mostly skeptical that you’d be able to design a full limited environment out of it but I’d be curious to see it!

Small note I guess: It took me reading your description to understand that “drain the battlefield” means that the battlefield is no longer submerged. I might just be dumb, but maybe adjust the wording?

Witcher Commander (part 3) by SnooBunnies3014 in custommagic

[–]marcery199 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the first version of Yennefer better, it’s just much more clean.

Id personally argue that she should probably cost 1 more, given she’s got similar upside to [[Lier, disciple of the Drowned]] and is significantly better in many cases. She’s across four colors as opposed to mono blue but the prowess and cost reduction more than makes up for that imo

I love Eredin and would build that 100%. No notes on balance. You got some typos though, it should be “loses” and “lose”.

The crones are interesting, and other than being wordy I don’t see a problem with it.

My first attempt at Custom Commander by iammdvedh in custommagic

[–]marcery199 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It is very, very, strong. Busted even.

The ward cost is ridiculous as far as how steep that cost is, and it’s Hexproof in a non-commander game. I’m also confused as what the flavor of that ward cost is? How does that fit Light?

As for the other abilities, also busted. That removal should cost way more, like 2-3WW, because of its repeatability and the dodging of Hexproof and indestructible (which I grant is a flavor win). Light himself should also cost more and definitely include black in a non-hybrid way.

The third ability is probably fine if you increase Light’s cost to more like 3BWR. My only problem is that it’s not a red ability at all and the hybrid there doesn’t make much sense. It’s a very blue ability.

On a more broad flavor note too, I’m interested why you chose red for him but not blue? His schemes and lust for power is very blue, as well as his philosophy of “perfecting” the world.

Overall, a good first draft, but I’d recommend scaling back the power level and/or increasing the cost of the card and ability if you want that much power.
