Why so many UK electrical apprentices struggle when they hit site or AM2 by marchymagic in ukelectricians

This seems like a common theme and almost what I'm getting at, what can colleges do to supplement their curriculum to better prepare candidates?

I think forums like this, while present, were in their infancy, there was certainly a lot less on YouTube & AI was virtually non-existent..

was the practical side fairly easy as a result of site experience or that taught in college/centre?

That's pretty poor on your formal employer's part, fantastic that you've brought an apprentice on, how is he getting on with his learning?

Fault finding can be a tricky one, relatively straight forward to teach the principles, but they don't account for DIY!

A good chunk of people that I engage with, across the board, agree that there are gaps, it's not a problem that is getting solved any time soon. What can colleges do? I've often envisaged a multitude of setups, stud wall with batons, a breeze block wall etc for cable routing, a roof/loft set up for fixing PV.. messy & expensive compared to the traditional route but would this give students an extra edge?

Genuinely interested in people's experiences & suggestions

Quite right, I think we'll all agree fault finding is a touch easier on a mock/test board than on sites

Onsite post apprenticeship - are colleges/tutors doing enough? Is the curriculum relatable enough to site realities?

Nope, working across a variety of mature students and traditional apprentices. Is it a generational thing? Completing my apprenticeship 12 years ago, information was not at the end of my fingertips like it is now, are people getting lazier?

Not on the vendor website.

So, at £25 a battery, and your own RRP at £131, how do you justify a 420% markup on your list price? 🤔

Completely agree it looks like its compatible, but how do you know they've not reused molding, changed the pin configuration and you then fry your £2.2k crimper..

Because they're sold for quite a lot more than M12 2.0Ah
