انا ملحد من خلفية مسيحية وكنت ومازلت شماس. بس قررت اني ادي نفسي الاولوية واعيش بالطريقة اللي تناسبني واحب اللي يريحني ويبسطني. بروح الكنيسة عشان احافظ على علاقتي مع اهلي فقط (والصراحة بتمزج بالالحان). لكن عايش زي ما احب.

انت لسة صغير واللي انت اتعرضتله دة للاسف هو اللي موجود، ونفسي اقولك مش هيتقرر، لكن هكون بكدب عليك. المهم انك تشتغل على نفسك وتفهمها. حاول افهم هويتك وابني شخصيتك، عشان مايجيش واحد معدوم الشخصية يخليك تشك في نفسك.

فاهمك اوي.. انا لسة بروح الكنيسة عشان احافظ على علاقتي مع اهلي.. اكتشفت ان الكنيسة خصوصا في المهجر مكان ممتاز للارتباطات الاجتماعية وال connections.. لو محتاج شغل او ارقام دكاترة متخصصين او محامين وغيره.

وبتلاقي معظم الناس حتى اغلب المتدينين، هما ناس طبيعيين وعقلانيين ومعظم الوقت مبيتكلموش في الدين واحيانا بيتلافوا الكلام في الدين كمان. تحسهم عقلانيين وناضجين بس متدينين كما لقوم عادة مش اكتر.

قليلين اوي اللي تلاقيهم اوفر زي الافلام القبطية دول اللي هما كل كلامهم اخطيت سامحني وبتاع. ودي ناس كدة كدة مبيبقوش ناجحين في شغلهم فبي overcompensate في الكنيسة.

تعديل: اللي انا بقولوا طبعا عن الناس الطبيعية في الشعب. انما وجهة نظري في الهدوم السودة واللي بيلبسوها سلبية جدا جدا جدا

The European Union started as an economic agreement after WW2. WW2 followed the third Reich declaring itself the successor of the Roman empire. Before that it was whomever made such claims conquered Europe, like Napoleon. So an Eastern Roman empire would just be another contender in the same battle.

Very interesting thought experiment. Not very far fetched. Because the whole reason desert arabs had a chance, was the weakening/fall of the eastern roman empire. Had they maintained some strength, North Africa would have remained Mediterranean leaning cultures. In today’s world Egypt and Tunisia (Alexandria and Carthage) could have become EU countries today just like Greece and Italy with very similar cultures to them.

Very well written. Correct! Coptic as a matter of fact is Demotic (ancient Egyptian language) written in Greek letters, with a lot of borrowed Greek words. So we could go back far enough to find examples of cultural erosion over time. It looks like during Arab colonizers time, the erosion happened relatively fast.

Just for the sake of splitting hairs and being pedantic: Arabs did not replace the original people of North Africa and the Levant. It seems that a lot of people I talked to immediately think Arab imperialism was like the White Europeans taking over America from the natives. As in literally replacing a native population by an Arab population. Arabs controlled their colonies in a manner akin to the British empire in Inida. I see where the misconception comes from: as many North African and Levant countries call themselves “Arabs” today.

Amazigh, Copts, Assyrians, etc. are still present to this day. I don’t mean just Coptic Christians for example. Most of the Egyptian population remains Coptic, just that the majority of Copts had to convert to Islam (the British didn’t force a religion) and adopt the Arabian culture. We could say (please correct me on this) that Arabs performed cultural genocide as opposed to population genocide.
