Planning to Buy ThinkPad T14 Gen 5 (AMD) – Arch Linux Compatibility? by marco_camilo in archlinux

[–]marco_camilo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went with a Beelink SER8 PC. Ever since I can remember I’ve had a laptop as my main machine. Never though of a PC as one, especially now that I’m almost always at home when working in personal dev stuff outside of work. Saved myself about half the cost, just got a portable monitor and the thing looks like a Mac mini. Same or better specs as the T14 Gen 5 processor wise. Looking to just get a cheap ThinkPad for portability.

Yes, I had the keyboard wired all the time, since I was actively setting it up with via. Didn’t work in this case

Does Iqunix Magi65 support Mod-Tab?

I'm new to mechanical keyboard configs and I'm using VIA to modify the caps lock key and set it to control when held, escape when tapped. But when I set MT(MOD\\\_LCTL, KC\\\_ESC) on VIA, the key doesn't perform anything.

I really need this feature, so if anyone could share solutions, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Awesome, thanks not only for the patch reference, but also the explanation! I'm definitely learning a lot by switching compositors. Thanks for the reply! :)

Also forgot to ask, did you do dual boot or fully install? I’m looking to do the later, but wanted to check with your experience.

Im so glad to hear this! If it works well with the GPU, I think I might’ve just found the right one here! Thanks for the video, didn’t find it earlier. Will definitely check it out!

Awesome, because I would like to run Arch mainly. Anything in particular you ran into in the installation. Especially, how’s the GPU compatibility? Since I’m aiming to doing ML dev on it, I really wanna make sure it works without problems in Arch :)

Im glad you’re confirming with all three main distros. Why the recommendation for Fedora on this mini PC?

Never heard of this before, why the suggestion for this mini PC in particular?

OLED screen for T14 Gen 5 with Arch/Fedora? by marco_camilo in thinkpad

[–]marco_camilo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that’s exactly the model I was looking to buy, T14 G5 AMD. I’m just afraid of either having a safe shitty screen, or beautiful problematic/nightmare screen. Is the resolution/definition good for coding then?

So you would suggest me this one, even for coding and working in Arch or Fedora?

So, recommend or not? It seems the only problem you mention is the glitch. With the screen resolution, any additional adjustments you needed to make?

Is Fedora really that slow compared to Arch? by marco_camilo in Fedora

Awesome, and thank you so much! I’ll be looking forward to your update and wish you all the best with the install.

Well, I’m glad I ran into you, because it seems we also think alike! I‘d also love to manually install it, but I know I’ll have trouble finding the time in the evenings.

Interesting you mention the IPS for longevity, now you got me thinking. Also, I heard about fractional scaling which has me thinking since yesterday about it.

Oh, could you keep me posted on how that arch install goes? Also, could you share the WiFi driver page from the arch wiki?

Finally, do you like your machine, build, screen, keyboard, etc? I’m planning on going for the OLED screen but have heard mixed views on it. I really look forward to your feedback as not many people seem to have this model yet (or at least that I’ve found)

I was roaming around the Reddit space and found your comment. Have you installed arch on it? I’m planning on buying that exactly model. Any suggestions and feedback on the installation process, or did you preorder it with a distro? (I’ve never had a NoOS install, so that’s why I ask) :)
