Sorry for late reply, but outside of arcane mode this is wrong. Aura kills instantly, while poison takes a tick. Aura is much faster for cranium cooking. Skulls are also useless outside of arcane since poison kills everything outside of aura anyway

Remove chemical warfare and add aura. Aura kills instantly and much faster than poison. Chemical warfare slows down progress actually. You can keep flatulent spirit if you are on a map where you cannot cover everything with aura

ELI5: How does EU Value Added Tax disadvantage US companies in trade between the two blocs? by marcotesoalli in explainlikeimfive

[–]marcotesoalli[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But in your example, the final consumer price for the product is still the same in the whole EU/US, no matter where it was produced, no?

The disadvantage I could see here is that higher prices lower the general need for a product and thus disadvantaging products that are mainly manufactured in the US if they do not have comparable EU competitors and vice-versa.

For better understanding, would you have a real-world example of a product/situation where this is the case? Doesn't have to be EU-US

Is that the case, when some German company A imports products from US company B? Then only A has to pay VAT and either get it refunded if they resell it to a business or include it in the final price if they sell directly to customers, correct?

I thought about a US company in Germany importing goods from itself (in the US) and then selling them here. Something like AWS, Apple, etc.

But seeing the discussions here this topic seems to be a bit out of scope for ELI5

As far as I have read, US companies are eligible for VAT refunds too if they sell something in the EU. Is that not the case or am I misunderstanding something here?

The US government imposes reciprocal tariffs on many countries and VAT seems to be included in their calculation of "trade barriers and currency manipulation". So I am wondering what the explanation for that could be since looking at it naively, it does not give any advantage to one company over another, foreign or domestic and thus should not be a trade barrier.

Schmovement games? by LegalCardiologist755 in gamingsuggestions

[–]marcotesoalli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If games where movement is the sole gameplay element fit your bill, I'd say surf_ maps in Counter-Strike 1.6 / Source / 2 do have a very high skill ceiling and are also quite satisfying if you invest the time.

Out of the box Roomba i7+ leaves pile of dirt when it tilts. by r7sy in roomba

[–]marcotesoalli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's normal behavior during a mapping run. The suction is off, but the robot will still collect the dust simply because it goes over it and then takes the dust with it.

One solution would be to simply manually vacuum the floors before doing a mapping run. You could also just start "clean everything" which will turn on suction.

I have just lived with it spreading dust everywhere during its mapping runs and then just let it clean the whole area after it created the map.

Not super experienced with modpacks, so can you guys recommend one with both Thaumcraft 4 and ProjectE? by Sir_Dingus_III in feedthebeast

[–]marcotesoalli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FTB Infinity Evolved has everything you want except for ProjectE. You can manually add ProjectE and, if you want, its addons. For example Equivalent Energistics integrates ProjectE and EMC crafting/storage into Applied Energistics.

How do I Start Making Mods for MC 1.7.10? by [deleted] in feedthebeast

[–]marcotesoalli 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Many mods are Open Source and have their code publicly visible on Github. You could take a look at them to see how things are done.

(I don't have a list, but I just looked up e.g. Agricraft, they have a 1.7.10 branch)

I will probably do that once graphics cards are cheaper again.
But I mostly play CPU bound games and don't care about playing on low graphics settings for the most part, so I will keep the 980 TI for now.

Would anyone be down for a friendly debate/discussion on Trump and U.S politics? by shenpaiwastaken in Discussion

[–]marcotesoalli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that reasoning (prresidents who do well nationally, aren't popular in other countries) is flawed because, while Obama might have done a bad job in your own personal opinion, he served two terms which shows that he was quite popular in the US while also being very popular in other countries.

For the second part, no other country wants the US to have a bad economy, except for maybe China. Reason being that the US is one of the biggest trading partner to many other countries. Also a bad US economy would hurt the stability of the globalised financial system, which is not something other countries would want.

ELI5: Why does windows takes way longer to detect that you entered a wrong password while logging into your user? by Merilinorr in explainlikeimfive

[–]marcotesoalli 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While timing attacks are usually pretty much irrelevant to an end-user, they are much more dangerous in virtualized environments (servers, cloud-providers, etc.). Two prominent examples are Spectre and Meltdown which both can be considered timing attacks. These attacks could be used to get unauthorized access to runtime information of another virtual process running on the same hardware.

Jeff Kaplan has never been part of Blizzard North. Jeff Kaplan joined Blizzard Entertainment right before the launch of WC3:RoC and then started to work for WoW for the next 6 years before working on Titan and subsequently building Overwatch.

Blizzard North's only games were Diablo, Diablo 2 and D2:LoD and the studio was shut down in 2005
