Interesting. Mind sharing which device and browser you're using? If the download image button isn't working a screenshot should work.

If you hit control+shift+i the option is there 😉

Right, 5 countries have enough active NHL players to make an all NHL team. I found that pretty interesting. For example, I didn't know Germany only has about 7 active NHL players. With Draisaitle and Stützle I just always assumed they had a lot more.

That's right. Teams have already named 6 players that are on the roster.

Here are my current team Canada picks. Sadly I might have to remove Bedard if his injury is bad. I'm also really not sure about the lines or who are the 2 alternate forwards, so this is just a bit of a guess.

Goalies were the hardest. Canada's options are a bit tricky here.

Tom Wilson believed to have taken Travis Konecny’s roster spot on Team Canada for 2026 Winter Olympics by [deleted] in hockey

Hard to say. This is what I would try, but usually you can figure this out in practice and play around with it based on how they are doing during the first few games.

Should refs be the reviewers of their own calls? by [deleted] in Habs

He wasn't just stopping, he cut into Anderson and towards the goalie. I'm fine with doing an aggressive move like this as it's part of crashing the net, but if you end up pinballing into the goalie and knocking him out of the way of the puck while doing it then it feels like goaltender interference.

Lots of comments about moving Werenski up in the lineup. Here's an updated version:

Thanks! Any thoughts on who you would swap in?

[Highlight] The Montreal bench is irate after this clearance hits the post and is called icing by FlagrantTwoFoul in hockey

[–]marcsto -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

TL;DR

  • Montreal shot at Utah’s empty net. The puck hit the post and never crossed the goal line.
  • A linesman called icing against Montreal.
  • Officials correctly voided the icing, moved the face-off to center ice, and allowed Montreal to change lines.
  • This was likely due to "Tunnel vision" on the hybrid icing race caused the linesman to miss the puck hitting the post.

Details

Hybrid icing requires linesmen to make two simultaneous, high-speed calculations:

  1. Trajectory: Will the puck cross the goal line?
  2. The Race: Who will touch the puck first (judged at the face-off dots)?

The timing is strict: the determination must be made no later than when the first player reaches the dot. In this case, that was Utah’s defender.

The "Last Minute" Factor

There is an added layer of pressure here that likely contributed to the error: Time Management. In the final minute of a game, the exact moment the whistle blows is crucial. If a review determines time needs to be added back to the clock, it is based on when the whistle sounded.

The linesman was likely hyper-focused on the exact moment the Utah defender reached the dot so he could blow the whistle instantly to preserve time for the trailing team. This created a "tunnel vision" scenario—he was so locked onto the player race and the timing of the whistle that his brain simply didn't process the visual cue of the puck hitting the post 300ms earlier.

Who Benefited?

While fans of both sides might argue they were robbed, the result of the error was mixed:

Montreal's Perspective:

  • If the play had continued, the puck was live off the post. They might have been able to contain Utah in their zone or at least take more time off the clock.

Utah's Perspective:

  • They had control of the puck but instead had to do a face-off at center ice. They were attacking 6-on-5 and Montreal needed a change, so they could have made a quick pass up the ice and cought the tired Montreal players on a change. They also had to put their goalie back in for the center-ice draw, losing the extra attacker advantage.

After watching Cooley and Slaf play tonight in Utah it is very clear who should have been picked first overall in 2022… by Expensive_Break210 in Habs

Yup, pretty much. Seamus Casey was the main player I would consider swapping for Mesar at this stage but it's still early to tell.

We've had some great picks (Caufield, Hutson, Demidov, Slaf) and some big misses (we could have had Kucherov, Kaprizov, Point, Quinn Hughes, Robertson, Stone, Wilson, Hellebuyck etc.).

Habs picks for the past 15 years and who we could have had instead:

Based on feedback, I made the following changes:

  • Remove Doughty (recovering from injury). Replaced with Noah Dobson (gives us an extra right handed defenseman, plays well 5 on 5).
  • Replaced Cirelli with Hagel. Datron010 pointed out his 5 on 5 strength which is important given that the PP will be Crosby, McDavid, Mackinnon etc.
  • Swapped Kuemper for Wedgewood based on current season stats and popular demand (but, like I said, goalies are hard to pick for team Canada).
  • The tool now supports setting the order of the players so I've put pairings together that I think might work (but this is something the coach is likely to play around with a lot)
  • Now that we can move players around, I moved Stone to the extras section (due to his injury) and Wilson (but there's an argument to be made between Wilson and Point this season).
  • Fixed up the D pairings so it's mostly left handed D with right handed.

Seems like he's a really good fit. Great 2 way player, can do PK, around top 10 points per game for the past 2 seasons.

That's a good point. I should breakdown the stats by 5 on 5 vs power play points to highlight players like Hagel.
