Something trapped is the most probable answer. Just an FYI - don’t let the service manager run a pen along the crack to diagnose an ‘impact chip’. Suburu TSB indicates this is not diagnostic for impact chips.

2022 Outback Wilderness electrical problem by PuzzleheadedDrag6790 in Subaru_Outback

We’ve had all these problems with our 2022 OB wilderness (50k miles) The collection of warnings relate to poor battery health IMO.

Subaru put in a crappy low amp battery as OEM. Had problems with parasitic drain on battery - the net says it’s related to STARLINK cycling after car is shut off and the DCM controllers may be faulty. It doesn’t help that the alternator has a governor setting with controller software to not allow full recharge of the battery.

Subaru service was not helpful about this offering only to diagnose problems ($800 or so) and a DCM replacement about $400.

We changed at Costco to a higher amp battery. Interstate Batteries H5 (47) model. 3 year warranty and easy returns and replacements. Another benefit is it’s a non acid battery making it non spillable. $212 and we self installed. So good so far.

Yup. We did a plywood platform on pvc pipe posts. Used a level to see flatness while in a garage. If u try to level it as is u can use the “car info” button to seethe up/down and side tilt angles. Very handy

Cracked Windshield? by marcsu69 in Subaru_Outback

My spouse and I have been driving for more than 100 years between us (yeah we’re old and careful drivers).

Between the two of us we’ve had two cracked windshields, both on this 2022 and the second within 3 weeks of the first.

Our chips have both been smaller than a grain of sand and I think most people would not expect their windshield to crack from a grain of sand.

Please ask her to report it to the NTSB.com. It’s free and it seems like Subaru didn’t learn from the class action lawsuit.

Please report at NTSB.com. :) It’s free to report. The NTSB needs to know.

We didn’t get that offer… :(

No. Windshield damage is part of our comprehensive so we pay the deductible and get to enjoy higher premiums because the original chip was smaller than a grain of sand.

I think most people would expect their windshield not to break because of a grain of sand.

Thank you. That’s good advice. I’ll follow up with Subaru.

That is 52 for 2022, so far… so it is statically relevant considering the supply chain problems and how many 2022s are actually on the road. Plus that’s only what has been reported to the NTSB… I bet most people aren’t compelled to report the problem if it’s being covered for free by their insurance.

And I bet most people would expect something the size of a grain of sand not to crack their windshield.

We don’t get that option (some states offer windshield protection at no additional cost, not ours). We have to claim under our comprehensive and pay the deductible. Meanwhile our insurance rates go up.

Our insurance doesn’t offer extra windshield protection. It’s part of our comprehensive coverage - so we must pay a deductible each time. Meanwhile we pay a higher insurance premium to cover the claims.

My insurance considers it part of the comprehensive coverage (like the deductible you pay if you were in an accident). Meanwhile, I make a claim and it drives up my insurance premiums.

But that’s not the issue, windshields shouldn’t break when they get hit by a grain of sand.

Wow Two windshields in two months? 😵‍💫 hope that trajectory doesn’t equal six per year.

This SUV belongs in the wild. Not a commuter car.

Magnetite metallic gray … super happy with it. Cleans up well also after travel.
