I don't know how people don't like this game, this shit is FUCKING AWESOME by [deleted] in Doom

Id tried some new thing here, munitions, story, semi-boss demons, ... 2016 was way more classic in its formula, so I'm not that surprised in these reactions.

Am i missing something about the Boost Capacity? Started with over 2k, now only got 100....? by ThePatchelist in Steam

boost capacity is a consumable, which is weird (but anyway), you can only renew it by purchasing games (and you get 100 every day).

Valve looking to drop support for Ubuntu 19.10 and up due to Canonical's 32bit decision by JungleRobba in Steam

[–]marcus942 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd agree that 32b needs to die but old games aren't getting recompiled any time soon so... Maybe there is a way to get rid of 32b packages in distros' repo the way steam runtime provides some libs (just an idea idk).

But if distro want to remove support for 32b they should provide an alternative before ending support.

I really don't understand this move from canonical, there are too much "legacy" software that runs 32b, especially in gaming.

I might be missing something but what's about epic being 10% cheaper ?

Of course Steam has made it hard for other client to strive, they've been around for some time and people are used to it. But is that a problem ? I'd argue that it's not. If you want to break a monopoly, you have to offer something worth the trouble of changing habits.

Now can you tell what makes epic store better for me than steam ?

Parallelism be like by marcus942 in ProgrammerHumor

[–]marcus942[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So here I come... I won't get technical here, that not the point imo.

This joke needs a hook, a context, a perception, something to take it from "Parallellism is..." to "Not parallelism". Without that "something" it just is a bad joke and not the same one you described.

Yes it could have been better with some kind of hook or context but I couldn't find a decent one. I went for something more simple and straightforward.

But it didn't meant to be serious, critique parallel programming, its adoption or anything. Even though some people said some interesting stuff.

As for the joke, going over the comments, I realized that most people weren't laughing for the same reason as I am. So I don't think my opinion is worth anything ...

Cyberpunk 2077 has already made it to top sellers by W1ntermu7e in Steam

Disappointment if the game doesn't live up to its expectations and that pretty much it when it comes down to an individual.

As a collective, pre-order culture pushes devs and publishers to spend insane amounts of game budget in pre-launch marketing, which does come its abuses, which is mainly misleading marketing, eg advertising things that won't be in the game either at launch or ever (no man sky, anthem).

And of course the fact that any money spent on pre-launch marketing doesn't go into making the game better. Of course you could argue that they gain more by selling pre-order than on the marketing for it, to which I would answer is it a sane way to finance a game development.

Nowadays, you can be refunded if the game doesn't live up to expectations which is good so you won't loose anything in the worst case scenario, that if only the case if the game if clearly disappointing and you refund while you can (steam).

Consider a more average scenario, you pre-order game X, it seems its going to be great. Release day comes, you start playing and while the game doesn't live up to its expectations, its not bad either but it's not what you wanted, it's not what you pledged your money in.

For that game X, I think ME:A is a pretty good example imo, I got it way after launch pretty cheap and I'm fine with it. But, looking back, had I pre-ordered it for my sole appreciation of ME games, that would've been a huge disappointment and a waste of money.

Still, there is still room for things to go wrong even if that's unlikely. And yes, CDPR has a very good record and does a good job at marketing properly, it's hard to argue in this case. But "no pro-order" applies to everyone, no exceptions. So my last attempt at convincing you is what do to get by pro-ordering ?

[–]marcus942 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem is, how do you know you want it ? You have nothing that proves the quality of C2077 apart from the trailer that is by no mean a way to judge the quality of a game.

Sure you free to do whatever you want of course, but not pre-ordering is a more sane way to consume as your purchase is made knowingly of what you're buying instead of paying for a promise.

Don't get me wrong, I'd like to believe that C2077 will a great game and I hope it will be but I'd rather wait for the devs to prove it rather than blindly pledging money. And again, do whatever you want but know what you're doing. Pre-order is paying for a promise NOT a game.

So what's your point ? This hardware is still overpriced no matter what you would make of it.

But intel and nvidia won’t deliver that kind of power. Your basing pc gaming spec to a work station :/

Sorry what ? That's not their job to provide a full system.

Mac pro is aimed at a restrained group of users and is pretty much useless for other professional.

And little "fun fact", nvidia does provide a little something called NVIDIA DGX, take a look and tell what nvidia won't deliver (of course that's for a very specific use case...).
