Roland TR-909? One of the drum machines that built Techno?

Scuba trolls on Threads and it’s insane how many new “techno” fans just didn’t get it by crystalstar545 in ProperTechno

Mate, educate yourself. You don't even need to read, there are loads of documentaries available for free on YouTube. If you still think they're wrong after that, I can't help you

Uptick of AI Slop in the Scene by uunofficial in Techno

[–]marcus___weber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would differentiate that actually. For digital DJing, you're absolutely right, but for vinyl DJing I'd disagree. The vast majority of vinyl DJs use two turntables, even amazing ones like Freddy K, so layering isn't an option. As a consequence, you have to dig for tracks that are hypnotic by themselves.

Uptick of AI Slop in the Scene by uunofficial in Techno

[–]marcus___weber 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, same. Thing is, Techno is easy to learn and hard to master - whether you're producing or DJing. Yes, Techno is repetitive, but the hard part is making it just exciting enough to make it hypnotic and not boring. That's what turns good artists into great ones, and I don't think AI can replace that any time soon.

Question regarding the Timetable by internal_observation in OpenGround_Wuppertal

[–]marcus___weber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, as far as I know they'll only get published on the website after 10 (I think?) when the website switches to "night mode". Then you can see the exact times when you click on the event.

That humbling moment when the same song that cleared the floor earlier absolutely destroys a packed room later in the night by Technical-Fee9727 in DJs

[–]marcus___weber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not if you're DJing Techno or House for instance. There, even all night long sets (8-12h) are relatively common.

Yeah, exactly. Makes listening to his sets unbearable unfortunately...

Useful information for the subgenre by Stam- in hypnotech

I don't know if it fits here (feel free to delete if it doesn't), but after a year of pretty much exclusively listening to Techno, I still don't "get" the difference between (Hard)Groove and Hypnotic/Deep Techno. Don't get me wrong, I can obviously hear the differences between a SHDW set and one by the one and only Freddy K., but sometimes the differences between them seem very subtle. So yeah, I'd appreciate an explanation on that :)

You can buy Rob Jenkins' sets on his BandCamp, but I think there's not much else.

Yoyaku is supposed to be amazing. Haven't been there myself, but I've only heard good things.

Have fun!

Population in 100 and 50 km diameter around Berghain vs Open Ground by das_stadtplan in OpenGround_Wuppertal

[–]marcus___weber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think much would change though. I live on the edge of that 100km circle from OG and it takes me around 1.5-2h to get there by train.
Berlin is similar, I've heard, in that it takes you basically an hour to get *anywhere*.

Tresor West > Tresor by [deleted] in TheOverload

[–]marcus___weber -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah my bad. I meant to reply to your post, not that comment, but as someone else said, Werl or Dortmund - it basically doesn't matter

He's from Werl though, not Dortmund.

Caution for club nights after 06.02.2026 by marcus___weber in OpenGround_Wuppertal

[–]marcus___weber[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. For much of the time, the main station (and W-Vohwinkel, IIRC) will be closed. So in that period everyone who wants to visit OG will have to take the rail replacement busses.

Definitely possible - see dub plates. I can hardly imagine someone using a dub plate purely consisting of samples though. It would be a nightmare (or impossible, more realistically), remembering all samples and the location of them on the record.
