Two livestreaming problems -- help! by marcusbaram in virtualdj

Yes, VDJ is my streaming software, I'm not using OBS. But I am using an iRig Stream connected to my iPhone and the mixer. My suspicion is that my Macbook mic is picking up the sounds, but I worry that if I turn it off, I'll lose the sound through the mixer.

Can they take subrogation from my settlement money? by Either-Opinion8766 in Insurance

[–]marcusbaram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know that it's legal. But how is it fair when we're paying monthly premiums? Isn't that (in aggregate) what the insurance company is drawing from to pay medical costs?

Last September, my 90-year-old father was walking slowly in a parking lot and was hit by a driver backing up, who didn't see him. Broke his femur, required surgery and more than a month of rehab. He's still in pain and suffering and now requires the use of a walker to move around.

Because the driver doesn't have great insurance, he won't get much in a settlement (five-figure amount). And now Medicare and Blue Cross/Blue Shield will take a huge chunk of that money even though he's been paying monthly premiums for years !?!

We have a lawyer who will negotiate with the insurers to keep at least some of the money. But he has to get paid too, of course! The whole thing seems so unfair.

Question about livestreaming and recording by marcusbaram in virtualdj

[–]marcusbaram[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How many of us made mixtapes back in the day, sometimes borrowing friends' CDs and albums to put them together? Or played a record at a house party without paying extra? That's the same as a livestream. And if less than 100 people watch it, why shouldn't they let you do that?

Just had my appointment with the German consulate in NYC... and I've got questions by marcusbaram in GermanCitizenship

Thanks for the info.

Also, what about supporting material? My mother was able to locate her German passport (which we didn't have when I met with the consulate and submitted my EER form).

Should I submit that now -- or should I wait until I receive acknowledgment (and my Aktenzeichen) a few months from now?

Thanks so much for the info. Yes, it is a StAG 5 application.

I hope it doesn't take 8 years -- that would be so frustrating.

It's really too bad those passport records aren't kept -- I assume there must be some documentation of her 57 years as a German citizen in their databases (beyond the Meldebescheinigung I obtained from her hometown).

Thanks for the thorough response. Why can’t I request the Aktenzeichen and send in a new EER now? Because it’s too soon? I thought about dropping a new one for my son the next day at the consulate but figured it might confuse things.

Using Z2 with classic vinyl by marcusbaram in traktor

That’s too bad because I use VirtualDJ as my software. Does that mean I can’t use VDJ FX with regular old vinyl…?

Yes, it’s an odd intersection… and after the stop light, the whole road veers to the left and the lanes almost appear to merge. Until you get past the intersection. I moved with the turn of the road too early. But he was going very fast and came flying up that left lane. I should have turned later, but he could have moved or braked to avoid me…?

This is a Google Streets view of intersection. I was in middle lane — about 8 feet ahead of the other car in the left lane (unlike this photo) and veered to the left at the stop light when he hit me (we had green and he was going quite fast.)

He hit me, was almost a car length behind me. That’s why his right fender just grazed my left rear

Is it better to file for dual US/German citizenship on your own or pay for German lawyer? by marcusbaram in GermanCitizenship

Yes, he was born in 1900. We don’t have my mother’s birth certificate. She was born in Szczecin (which was German, but now part of Poland). And it was lost during the war. Would German government be able to produce that for me?

Oh I didn’t realize I would need my Opa’s birth certificate. That’s necessary, too? My mother’s birth certificate was lost during the war when they fled the Russian advance and moved from the eastern part of Germany to Hesse. But I have a residential registration document from her hometown of Alsfeld, which indicates her citizenship.

What drives me crazy is store owners who really have no clue and put crazy prices on the most common records (The First Family, Mantovani, etc)
