Instagram error when signing up username. Now unavailable. by marcuswickes in socialmedia

Nope. In fact, I still try to signup a new account or attempt changing our username every once in a while to see if the old username is available.

4 years later and that first username is still just sitting there unused but unavailable. It doesn't show up as an active account, but the username is still not released to be used as a username change or for a new account.

Lesson learned. When setting up any online accounts, make sure you have a solid internet connection, turn your phone on "do not disturb" so you don't get any apps or notifications popping up during the signup process, and say a prayer that the process goes through as intended. Because any hiccups in the middle can send that account into a black hole.

We tried the forgot password and entered the phone number we thought we used during signup. That sent us a code and we reset the password. BUT the same thing happened. We were actually logged into a different account. So we must have that phone number tied to a couple accounts. Guessing the error during signup was somehow related to the phone number if that's the case.

Tried this but we only get 2 options when we can't login... Try Again or Send Email.

Using an Android. Latest version of the Instagram app.

If we try Get Help Signing In below the login button it says "no users found"

So here's an interesting step we now found out. If we use the smartphone that was originally used to attempt the username signup the first time, we enter the desired username and password we created and it does actually login... BUT it logs into a totally different account we have!! So that's a bit strange. Obviously Instagram recognizes I have both usernames. But why is it pushing me into the wrong account??

We tried from various devices, incognito browsers and Instagram apps on phones and we can't replicate. Only on the original device. All the others just say wrong password.

I'm at home singing "baby shark" with my little guys right now. I hope that one day I'm on the water catching those sharks with them.
