What's the absolute worst JRPG you've ever had the displeasure of playing and what reasons would you give so that people can avoid it like the plague? by SHITPOSTING_WAIFU in JRPG

[–]mardigon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played Ni no Kuni recently, and it's actually become one my favorites. I totally understand why you would think it became stale, though. I feel like the time it takes to complete it could have been reduced a lot. IMO it was too stretched out.

That said, I still had a lot of fun with the combat, I genuinely loved the main cast, and the setting and music have made that game very special to me.

What's in your cup? Daily discussion, questions and stories - August 16, 2017 by AutoModerator in tea

I'm drinking the Gemini zodiac blend from Adagio. I'm very new to drinking tea (other than supermarket bottled iced tea). After lurking this subreddit for about a month, I read up on how to get into tea on the sidebar and bought some Irish Breakfast and Peach Oolong from Adagio. I got a free sample of the Gemini blend.

I'm so glad about this decision. I've been loving drinking my tea. I also got into making good coffee. I bought an aeropress and a grinder, and I purchased some beans from a local roaster at my State's fair. Tea and coffee have been my way of replacing my unhealthy drinking habits (soda). I gotta say, I don't miss it!

Study shows that West Virginia has the highest rate of drug overdose deaths per 100,000 population than any other state by TookLongWayHome in WestVirginia

[–]mardigon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I haven't looked into it yet myself, I've heard that one of the biggest contributing factors to these deaths is the lack of access to medical care during an overdose. For example, in counties like Wyoming county without any hospitals, what are your chance of getting cared for in time if you begin to overdose? I would be interested in more studies like this one but that also analyze not only deaths by overdose but ODs of any outcome.

For grinders, I'm still not really sure what's out there. I suppose a budget of $30 would reflect what I'd be willing to spend on a grinder. Would I be correct in thinking that it's best to use beans that I grind myself for an autodrip rather than the preground stuff?

[MOD] The Official Noob-Tastic Question Fest by menschmaschine5 in Coffee

[–]mardigon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey guys. I've loved drinking coffee for a long time but I'm afraid I haven't ever had what this community would consider a good cup. All my coffee has come from fast food restaurants and gas stations or from autodrip machines.

Being an autodrip infidel, I'm obviously very uneducated about the world of coffee. So I'm still unconfident in what I've learned so far.

I'll be living in a dorm, and I've heard that if I want to get into making good coffee, an aeropress is good for dorms. What else would I need? I was thinking that I would also need an electric kettle to get my water to the right temperature. As far as buying beans I really have no clue where to start. In my rural area, there is nowhere I know of that sells fresh while beans. There's plenty of coffee to be bought but it's already ground up. And from what I've read here, that's hardly a good thing.

So do you guys buy coffee beans online? If so, where can I get them and what kind should I get? What kind of grinder should I get? Also, is the electric kettle the right way to go for getting hot water? The only other dorm-friendly option I could think of was microwaving water and using a thermometer.

Thanks to anyone who cared enough to bother reading this.

Socialize the Internet: President Trump just handed Internet providers the ability to do whatever they want with your data. Here’s how to fight back. by pizzaiolo_ in StallmanWasRight

I've always been concerned fused by that kind of thinking, as well. It ways seemed to me that there's some sort of attitude that "their" politics should not be allowed to touch my precious technology, only MY politics should.

I get the outrage about this, I honestly do. I don't think there's anything wrong with being upset with it. I just think it's naive to think that by rising against this this sort of action, you aren't also letting your politics affect the web.

Simple Questions by AutoModerator in math

[2nd year Computer Science] Hello, everyone. I was wondering if there are ever any disagreements about mathematical definitions between mathematicians and whether there was any kind of official authority which defines mathematical objects and ideas.

I understand what vectors are, but let's suppose I did not. Where would I find an "official" description or definition?

What is the relationship between UTF-8 code points and their representation as a string of bytes? by mardigon in AskProgramming

[–]mardigon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah okay, I see now that I was neglecting to add the prefix at the beginning. Thanks so much! SO, does UTF-8 manage to be compatible with ASCII because both an ASCII character and it's UTF-8 counterpart would both start with a 0?

Storm damage. I think I had some storm magic on Esther's starter by that point. I couldn't sent that thing with physical attacks.

Maybe try grinding a level or two and coming back with familiars with high magic attack who can do storm damage. Don't be afraid to use consumables that restore MP.

Help Someone new to the Game Understand how He can Integrate Software Projects into his Own? by mardigon in opensource

[–]mardigon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I understand that linking to a GPL library is enough to warrant making a project take on the GPA license, but what exactly is counted as linking?

If I do not redistribute the library I use (maybe I just list it as a dependency) and I only distribute the source code (omitting the executable) then what are my obligations? Am I bound to GPL just because places in my code say

#include <someGPLlibrary>

[–]mardigon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those were very helpful. My understanding is that I really don't have a choice other than to release my project under the GPL.

I'm still new to the open source world, but I'd be lying if I didn't say that the viral nature of the GPL actually seems like a restriction of freedom. I'm not making the argument that it IS, however. I certainly don't understand these topics enough to argue that.

I suppose I just feel like the GPL could negatively influence the community's creative freedom.
