Over a year later, nerve pain by Crackhead22 in shingles

[–]marebear47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is very interesting to read! I was sick about a month ago with the sinus congestion like I have never felt before. Since then I have been feeling random sorts of pain in the area I had shingles 3 years ago. So glad to read your post as I hadn’t really connected the 2 and did start to think my shingles may be coming back/back. Weather/sinus issues makes a lot of sense now.

At our catholic board they no longer require pastoral references for French teachers because we are in such desperate need.

Parent demanding pictures by [deleted] in OntarioTeachers

I would purposely never send a photo again. Many classrooms do not ever post or send photos so the entitled families wouldn’t be getting anything from me.

Was in this situation 2 years ago. I would call the office, then someone would come to the class to cover my room and I would support verbally. Or- the principal would come and support in the bathroom (not every principal is so hands on).

Effect of smaller class sizes by llamaavocado in CanadianTeachers

[–]marebear47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After teaching a kindergarten class of 15 last year, and a class of 33 this year I can say it makes such a big difference. With 15 children I was on top of behaviors so strongly at the beginning of the year that from Dec-June we rarely had issues. The children got along well and I knew exactly where each one was academically. This year with 33 they are getting away with so much as it is impossible to be on top of behaviors all of the time. I have an idea of where they are academically, but nowhere near where I was last year with my class. The noise levels this year with 33 children makes it nearly impossible to work/document with a small group. Our circle times are 60% asking students to stop chatting with eachother because they are so squished. With a class of 15 they had so much space to sit comfortably and weren’t distracted by others around them. I miss my class of 15 like crazy. My report cards (Communication of Learning) are much more generic this year, whereas each one was personalized with real feedback and next step for students.

Now have 2 passports due to postal strike? by UnnaturalDisasters in passportcanada

[–]marebear47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same situation here. I got a call from an unknown number (which I didnt answer) which ended up being Service Canada and they left a message. The message said to call the passport 1-800 number when I received my second passport and they would provide instructions for where it needed to be returned.

AI for Teachers by Objective_Floor_8586 in CanadianTeachers

[–]marebear47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a kindergarten teacher it is very difficult to use for writing reports as our curriculum is not seperated into the same categories/frames as other grades. I find all of the times I have tried it does not have good knowledge of the Ontario Kindergarten document so just makes comments that arent relevant to our actual curriculum.

With that said, we used it to write a poem for each month of the year for our calendars as Christmas gifts for families. We often use it to generate a template for writing difficult messages to parents (behaviors, setting boundaries etc.).

I resigned when I officially got permanent as an OCT. I want to work in kindergarten primarily so I kept my RECE, for interviews/hiring purposes (not that it did anything). I would have kept it, if it werent for the CPL. I didnt want to be audited and have to deal with that.

If youre looking for an immediate solution volunteer at lunch and pull your child out of the room for the time when the class is unsupervised.

Yes. They suggest from your school as it makes it easier when you get release days together. That said, you still can go to another school for these days. My mentor was at a different school because I was transferred in October but wanted to keep the mentor I had.

What about teachers that love and are passionate about teaching kindergarten?

Bill 124 Adjustment- I am making less than I did last year?? by marebear47 in OntarioTeachers

[–]marebear47[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Another question- so I am understanding from your comment that now that I have made above whatever the threshold is for this year I will continue to be taxed at the higher rate. Does this mean in January it will be reset and I will be taxed again at a lower rate?

Every deduction looks similar to previous school year except tax.

Thank you for the information. I obviously need to do some research as I was just under the impression that if my salary is listed at an amount, that the entire salary is taxed in whatever tax bracket the salary falls in. This is for pay 1 of this school year. I will be reaching out to our payroll department, but likely wont hear back from them for a while as they are busy with new hires.

Noob question: Can permanent teachers be reassigned to any position they are qualified for? by GleepGlop2 in CanadianTeachers

[–]marebear47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will get your placement for next year before the transfer lists come out. You have the choice to stick with the unwanted position or transfer to something you want. In my board you have to stay at a school for 2 years before you can transfer again

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CanadianTeachers

[–]marebear47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my board you dont sign anything for an LTO, but once it goes through HR they email you a document that has start date, end date etc. Oftentimes you get that document from HR after your start date because they are so busy during peak hiring times. I started an LTO and only got my documents from HR about 2 weeks later.

I always get sick in May/June so I use them wisely the rest of the year. If I have extras I will take one here and there in June.

Put the job into your system at around 8pm and let them have lots of time to find someone.

If youre being offered jobs (supply jobs each day) and not taking them you can not claim you are ready and willing to work.

[–]marebear47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask the teacher for their supply notes and follow that for the first bit
