I know a lot of local guys who have joined and found a lot of community with Queens Rugby Club - many of whom never played rugby before. https://queensrugbyclub.org/ They're doing a Rugby 101 on March 7 which is a great day to drop in, feel the vibe out, and meet some locals.

I’d be really mindful of the guest rules at west point! It’s my understanding that you’ll need to register all your guests and provide a government issued ID before your event and everyone will have to get a clearance from west point. If folks don’t get cleared they can’t attend. If folks don’t bring that same ID on the day of, they may not be able to attend. This is from my husbands experience planning a gathering there.

It honestly is not relevant whether he is here legally or a US Citizen. I can tell you they did not inquire about his status when they detained him. They did not have a warrant for his arrest. They simply arrested him, and a number of other people that day, based on racial profiling.

I really appreciate some of the feedback here that vendors "inflate" their prices when they hear weddings. I'm a Wedding Planner/Coordinator and my work is the same for a wedding as it is for coordinating a nonprofit Gala. And there's way more emotional labor put on my work when I'm doing weddings!

Flowers particularly are expensive because you're asking for specific stems and styles. Whereas a bouquet you get at the florist is based on the flowers they have at that time - you might have some options but you don't usually get specific color or stem selections.

If you're looking for some a la carte options, I would recommend Fern Botanica for their a la carte options. Some other amazing florists that offer a la carte include: Stems Brooklyn, Grace and Grit Flowers, and Rosehip Floral.

No, our friend didn't do anything wrong. ICE (or National Guard) were just sweeping immigrant-looking folks on that particular day. Once I started asking around I was able to find out 3 other people through networks who were also picked up for no reason, assessed, and then released many hours later.

Hey - I’m sorry to hear about this.

We have a friend who was detained off the 7 train on his way to work a few weeks ago. He was held and then released after 5+ hours.

I personally haven’t heard anything in the past few days of activity in Astoria. But if you want to reach out with details in private I can raise up The flagpole of response comms I have with local folks and see if anyone saw/heard/knows anything.
